When you talked about how the ducks keep the insects under control in the orchard, what came to my mind was the insects hearing the sound of their impending doom as the ducks started to bear down on the bugs' positions. I couldn't stop laughing, and explaining why I was laughing to my wife was hard because it's such an odd thing to picture. Thanks for the big laugh! Greetings from Vietnam :)

Watched your video on your Khaki ducks. Bought two last spring. Lucky I got two females. My cousin wanted to get rid of a male. I took him in before the girls came. He was is so funny. They are entertainment. I call them the "G" family. George, Geraldine and Genevieve. Thanks for the tip about brewer's yeast. I run them together with my chickens so they get the layers feed and I mix wild bird seed and whole corn in the feed. Just love them.

Love my Ducks too Chad. I think the noisy ones however are the Ducks and not the Drakes. My Drakes make very little sound compared to the girls but one problem this winter had been wet feather on two Saxony Drakes. really hard to shake.

A good feed will have niacin and yeast added. The feed I use has 5 different yeast and niacin. Occasionally I get some romaine for the geese during the winter. 19 goose eggs from 2 girl geese so far.
@HiddenSpringFarm10 ай бұрын
Wow our geese haven’t started yet, still too wintery I guess. Here in our area there are only two places to get feed…PeaveyMart and a local co-op and they both carry the same 3 different types of feeds. Canada is limited unlike in the US and other countries that have so many people therefore more options. Most feed have generally the same ingredients though don’t they? What brand do u use?
@CmdrSoCal10 ай бұрын
@@HiddenSpringFarm Usually Earth First starter and layer with some kelp and herbs added and always egg shells fed back to them. Got a bunch of Scratch and Peck organic on discount as well recently. Organic cracked corn always for both geese and chickens.

Awesome information! I wonder if there’s any trouble with their feet being on the water heat pucks?
@HiddenSpringFarm2 ай бұрын
@@SydneyRoylance-l2y it doesn’t bother them whatsoever. It doesn’t even get hot it’s just warm enough that the water can’t freeze. I used for the geese too but the geese chewed the wire so I had to re-wrap the wire. It’s been a few years using them now and I like them, it’s a great hack. They’ve gotten expensive now though cheapest I found is $60 CAD.

Is your orchard fenced or how do you get your ducks bad into their coop?
@shanellstrehlow711010 ай бұрын
I asked you this before, what is that word you keep using to call the geese and ducks up for the evening? I find it an interesting word and find it amazing that they seem to know what it means.
@HiddenSpringFarm10 ай бұрын
“Tulugan Na” means “go to bed” in Tagalog (Filipino) I’ve been saying it for 3 years so I hope they’ll listen without Olive helping me. Ducks are very easy to herd anyway, all I do is walk and they run away in whatever direction I’m not.
@79PoisonBreaker10 ай бұрын
I like your ducks, and ducks in general are fun . have you given your ducks peas yet? I hear they go crazy for thawed out frozen peas. muscovy ducks are a tropical breed that can't handle cold as well as others, they are the exception to the rule as they can actually freeze their feet. Ducks are fun ,very fun but messy, very messy haha.
@CmdrSoCal10 ай бұрын
canned peas have worked for baby geese
@HiddenSpringFarm10 ай бұрын
Yes they do enjoy peas. Muscovies are tropical but my understanding is that they do very well in the cold also, they are a very popular homestead duck up here in Canada. They definitely need a place to get nasty.
@79PoisonBreaker10 ай бұрын
I'm in Manitoba, a bit colder then you and yes they are hardy but they are the least hardy of all ducks as they can freeze their feet and around their head.@@HiddenSpringFarm
@memo612733 ай бұрын
Silly question. Do they take bath in the winter, if yes how do you keep their pool/bath water from frozen solid, do you use de-icer also? I dont see it in your video. Or do you change their bath water everyday but that is too much work. Thank you
@HiddenSpringFarm3 ай бұрын
It’ll be in the video, but thru the winter I use small rubber bowls with an electric heater puck and it works great. Keeps the water unfrozen and I just dump out the water and fill it up everyday.

What is the phrase (not English) that you say to the ducks when you're ushering them back to the duck house?
@HiddenSpringFarm10 ай бұрын
Haha "Tulugan Na" basically means "go to bed" in Tagalog (Filipino) Ducks are easy to herd back to the house but one day if I have a pond and need to get the ducks back to the house I'm hoping I can shout that phrase and they'll be trained by then. I thought it'd be funny since my Darlin is a Filipina.

Have you ever thought of putting up a bat house?
@HiddenSpringFarm9 ай бұрын
Yes I actually researched how to build a few as we do have bats here. A single bat can eat up to 600 insects in one night so they’re incredible insect control. I’ll get to it eventually.
