I can't stand the open and shameless discrimination against Americans. It's not right to stereotype ANY group of people. We have a culture of kindness and support to strangers, and we're not all ignorant. Many countries have the benefit of 6 weeks' worth of paid holiday time, so they have more opportunities to travel to different countries, often many times per year. European countries have the added benefit of simply driving to other countries for day trips. Our country is huge. It took me over 2 years to save enough money to go see my sister in Norway, and we took a short drive to Sweden to visit a spa/resort over the weekend. The only reason I was able to take such a trip was because I was between jobs, and told my new employer during the interview that I had a trip already planned. I also spent 3 months in Ecuador, but only because it was for my studies during college. It's important to recognize that the things people see on the news about us, are attempts to push a specific narrative, and do not represent the citizens. I'm tired of the anti-American propaganda being pushed to the rest of the world, and especially in our schools and media. No group deserves to be lumped together and discriminated against, and this goes for Americans just as much as anyone else. I'm proud of my people.
@moviefan6688 Жыл бұрын
I don’t know why people from the US have this obsession with stating how big The United States is compared to Europe and how we can drive to different countries etc Europe is a continent for starters so giving that alone comparing it to the United States (a country) is ridiculous. Secondly Europe as a continent is bigger than the United States. It doesn’t just consist of Spain and France and not all European countries are connected… obviously. So obviously you can’t drive to every country and not every European country is a 2hr flight away. Some take 6 or more.. for example Ireland to Russia and there are many more examples. So maybe if you guys want to break away from the stereotypes placed on you, maybe you can start my not making generic statements like I explained above.
@colemerchant8926 Жыл бұрын
Get over yourself Americans make comments like this to other countries on a countless basis they insinuate stereotypes that is so ingrained that people believe it's literal fact. Americans typically fall under this category sorry but it's the truth no excuses will change the core truth
@Jdubayou Жыл бұрын
@@moviefan6688 You're being ignorant if you can't see the truth in what she is saying. I know you are pretentious just from you telling her that Europe is a continent when nothing she said suggested otherwise. It's just a fact that it's way easier and less expensive for someone from Europe to travel to other countries for vacation or to move permanently. You could fit 30 European countries into the United States. So of course on average Europeans are going to speak more languages and have more experiences with different cultures.

@@Jess-737 all good points but based on truth. Remember that geography was not a taught subject in K12 curricula for decades. It’s been making a comeback the past 10-15 years. Geography was only paid minimal lip service as a part of “social studies “. In some countries it has been the #1 undergraduate major at times. Geography “ain’t just about maps”.
@TravelsWithTony Жыл бұрын
@@Jess-737 I think xenophobia is way too strong. What I think they have heard and seen (through youtube and other media) is that Americans are, in fact, less skilled in Geography as subject. Most of these people really do like the US. I think they remain surprised that a subject that has such a high value in most countries has a relatively low value in the US. When you only have two borders, that "isolation" eventually leads to things like this. What I really like in all of these videos is the outreach being done by Will to connect with folks.
@pax24 Жыл бұрын
Well, it's a fact that a lot of Americans don't care about geography and generally about other countries (history, culture, languages, etc.), but of course not all Americans are like that and yes they have other good abilities.

“Proving Americans can learn foreign languages” is a weird title for a video. Surely anyone can learn a foreign language, nationality isn’t really a contributing factor. Even your native language was foreign to you during the earliest years of your life. 🤷🏾♂️
@benjackson7872 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, there is a stereotype that most Americans don’t speak a second or third language. While that’s true to a degree, it is slowly changing. People here are realizing its importance. This also plays into the stereotype that Americans don’t know or care about the outside world.
@DW-py4up Жыл бұрын
@@benjackson7872 Not knowing a second language isn’t the same as being unable to learn a second language. The title of the video implies that Americans are unable to learn a second language. With regards to the stereotype of Americans not knowing or caring about other countries, I’d say that’s mostly true from my experience as a European citizen spending time in the states.
