provisional cast on with crochet chain around needle/ 針の周りに編む別鎖の作り目

Another way of doing provisional cast on. You do not need to knit into the bumps on the back of the crochet chain.
別糸を使った、後でほどける作り目です。別鎖の作り目と同じ作り目ですが、くさり編みの裏側の山から目を拾う、という工程がないで、慣れてしまえば、こちらのほうが簡単です。
まずは、作品に使うものとは別の糸を使って、かぎ針で、棒針の周りに糸をまわしながら、鎖を編んでいきます。
必要な数の目が編めたら、作品に使う糸で一段編みます。これで、作り目が完了です。次の段から、編み図のパターン通りに、一段目を編んでいってください。

I am trying to knit your lovely Ranunculus sweater and having a problem trying to connect the 60 stitches on the #10 32” circular needle. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I would appreciate some help. Thank you

I just started it today and had the same problems. You could try knitting on magic loop if you're comfortable with that. Otherwise try using a bigger crochet hook to do the cast on to make sure its extra stretchy. Hope this helps!

As an English style knitter and non-crocheted I found this method very difficult. After many failed attempts and lots of wasted expensive yarn I wonder -Will it work if I just use my normal cast on method for the ranunculus?

Is the yarn you are using to do this with the waste yarn or the yarn you will proceed to knit with?

What prevents the live stitches from coming loose?

It depend on the type of yarn if live stitches will be loose. I guess, rustic wool yarn will be helpful. If the live stitches will be loose, you can just pull tail yarn when you remove crochet chain and move live stitches onto needle.
