I am an American disabled vet and I recently started sailing with Warrior Sailing. They taught me how to sail and I find a great piece when I am on the water. It has changed my life so much so in my healing process that my wife and I recently bought our first sailboat. I love your videos and have learned so much from you. Thank you!!! We hope to see you on the water sometime and get to meet you.

Avoiding glass on the boat is a good one. Some things can't be helped (gin), but cooking oil in glass bottles is the worst... if it smashes, it's slippery and will cut your feet.

Don't forget to throw away the packaging you don't need . Especially cardboard. Nasty crawlers might call it "home". Write the content and expiration date with permanent marker pen. Buy a block of ice and it will keep the refrigerator cool for longer. Or buy frozen bottles of water prior to departure. Most importantly: ship nor crew can live without gin, tonic and lemon. Enjoy!

MOAR SARA! Seriously though - very informative. Short. Sweet. Spot on. Does toast come premade in the tropics?

No, but it's a good base for peanut butter sandwiches with raisins or french toast breakfast ;)

cool t-shirt, James. what brand?
@SailingVirgins5 жыл бұрын
Thanks @makanimike, it doesn't say a name on it! Just a symbol that looks like three pea pods. Shameless plug here: we based our pima cotton t-shirt on it - not the design, but the pima cotton, which is stronger and softer than normal cotton: sailingvirgins.com/product-category/gear/t-shirts/

It's nice to hear I am doing it right but we do go a bit overboard "not keeping it simple". Haha We do a lot of steaks, chicken and fish on the barbie. Since we are in Mexico we do mainly authentic Mexican food. Check out our menu with photos. www.svcorina.com/meals

Not sure I understand the "no glass" - I would think you would want to use glass every where you can for less trash. Plastic is terrible for the environment.
@roxytq28364 жыл бұрын
M&L Lawhorn normally yes. But glass can break, not good if you are walking around barefooted. Canns (for food and drinks) are easily recycled.

A lot of plastic ........ Can we please try to promote not using single use plastic products? The ocean is full of it, and there is nothing worse than arriving in a secluded cove and finding plastic floatsam on the beach. Otherwise, very nicely done!
@SailingVirgins5 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely Sam. We are going to release a future episode on minimizing plastic in the provisioning. Thanks for picking up on that.

Bread doesn't last long but toast is the right way to go? Wut.
@SailingVirgins5 жыл бұрын
Ha true, "toast" the European way of saying bread in a packet (as opposed to bread from the bakery - this is because in the Caribbean, bakeries are scarce). We should have cleared that up. Thanks for the question.

I’ve got another tip on this. Bake you own bread. It’s really easy. Cost just a few minutes and some waiting time. You’ll need a tin cake from and the oven is always on board. Ingredients are: dried yeast, flour, salt, water. Seeds are optional. Step 1: mixing them. Step 2: leaving the mix with a lit on it (with a little opening) for about 8-17 hours. Step 3: taking the dough out, spreading out on the counter, folding it so it can fit in the baking mold. Step 4: in the oven for 60-70 minutes at 250 degrees Celsius. For to persons I use 500gr flour for 2 days. If you bake it all in one time 70 minutes oven. Or you can split up the dough and do one part a day (then baking takes 60 min).

Geez, now we know why Panama and other countries beaches are littered with plastic. It's Chef Sara after one season cooking on board. Please look at our oceans issue with plastic as 95% isn't recycled. We typically really enjoy your videos especially the educational ones but this one made us cringe.

Point taken. We were provisioning with what is readily available in Road Town. But you have raised a topic for Sara's next video: how to provision for a boat that results in minimal waste. This is not impossible, but not easy. Thanks for the heads up. If you have any suggestions or tips on how this should be done, we are all ears.

@@SailingVirgins That's a wonderful topic for the next video. Much information on the net on how to reduce plastic like taking your own containers to the grocery store for meats, using non plastic bags for carrying, reusable water jugs, etc. It's not easy as everything seems to be plastic like my bug spray was a can with a plastic trigger. Your channel is great so if you can help in anyway that's awesome. www.reefrelief.org/2013/01/51-ways-to-reduce-plastic-use-or-completely-eliminate-it/

@@ItsRainingTacosProductions I'm already chatting with Sara about doing the next version of this. She's pumped! We think the thing to aim for is "better" as opposed to "perfect" (or it'll never be released!). If you or anyone has any further suggestions, please add them to this thread and we'll incorporate it.
