Thank you for making this video. One thing worth mentioning: you don't actually have to use trim tools or pry anything. Simply put your hands inside the cubby hole, make fists, and pull. It all comes out in one simple motion.

A couple things about the installation process that were tricky: the antenna harness was difficult to disconnect secondly there was no sound when powered on. We had to troubleshoot through other videos the blue and white wire needed to be connected to the pink wire on the AUX wiring and that fixed the sound.
@theDaveStanzito Жыл бұрын
Great video. Very detailed. I wish I had the same success that you did. I have 2011 Outback 2.5i Premier. Similar setup as the video (non Nav unit with HK system and amp). I gave up on my install after a week of misadventure. I don't do this stuff professionally or anything, but I am a tool maker by trade. I've done a few dozen radio installs in my life, and this was by far the worst one I've encountered. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I was looking for a basic double DIN head unit for Bluetooth audio. I bought a Pioneer DMH-100BT ($133 at Wallyworld) and the appropriate harnesses from Metra. I did not want/care about maintaining SWC and didn't want to spend the money for anything with the idatalink interfaces. I just wanted a budget install and that, apparently, is not in the cards here. Taking out the old head unit is easy. Takes less than 10 minutes. My first thought was that there were way too many connectors compared to the Ford and GM products I have worked on in the past. Long story short, I could get everything powered up, but no sound comes out of the speakers. I tried both regular wiring and RCA connectors to the radio with no sound. I dug in further and tried the trick where you splice into the pink wire on the aux connector to try to trigger the amp to turn on. Still nothing. I didn't want to spend even more money for the Metra SWC interface or the Maestro RR thing so I gave up and reinstalled my factory head unit. My compromise was to buy one of those little Bluetooth button boxes with RCA and 3.5 MM inputs that I can hook up to the aux port in the center console and hide everything. It isn't as cool, but it works. The reason I bring this up is to hopefully warn folks to either commit to a premium aftermarket setup or don't waste your money. There really doesn't seem to be a middle option.

Thanks for all the prompt responses.....i cant figure out how respond in line.....so here are some thoughts.....if you have a factory stereo and no amplifier then there is no need to hook up the blue and white remote wire ....so cap it off .... .so.....the head unit in the video is not the head unit spec'd. Thats ok! Because the head unit spec'd fits better ...I butt connected the wires, no solder, worked fine......and finally all steering controls worked great! Lastly don't do this in 20 degree weather with the car on...i blew a fuse or 2 and thought none of this would work....after a few days wondering what happened I tried again....all works.....Thanks for the video...my 2010 is like new!

I have a 2011 forester that i am installing a system in with this same crux adapter harness. I am installing this along with 4 new speakers, a sub, and a 5 channel amp. On my wiring instructions from crutchfield, it tells me to connect the blue with white stripe (remote turn on lead) on the radios harness, to the blue (antenna power) of the crux harness. Then i would have a left over Blue antenna power lead wire at the end. You connected blue to blue, then had a left over blue with white instead. When i do this install, should i do blue to blue like this video, then connect the amp on wire from the amp to the blue with white in the radio harness? sorry for the long comment, just confused why my instructions say to do blue to blue with white, and this video does blue to blue. If YOUR bezel has NOT ever been removed, don't expect or anticipate it to just pop off of the dash as easily as was portrayed by this video. DO use a plastic (or vinyl) removal tool to help remove it. I recommend against using metal tool for the risk of damaging the dash. You own a Subaru. Don't screw up the dash, just to get the bezel off. DO pay attention to your climate control buttons and knobs. Once you have it removed, put a small amount of di-electric silicone compound on each of the 6 clips. Next time, it will come off much more readily. Maybe even as simply as grasping the compartment door as shown in other videos. There's enough room to hide a small gun lock box back there.😇
