One more upgrade of my Proxxon MF70 is coming. This time increase a torque and reduce rotation speed.

Why not add an electronic speed controller, lower speed same current.

What's a more versatile machine do you think? A lathe or mill? I think you can basically do both on each machine but each have there limits. I'm looking to buy one now I'm thinking milling machine for what I need but they all seem to need upgrades or aren't available. If anyone has one in the US, benchtop mills I'm looking. Harbor freight only has a couple lathes and I think by the time I upgrade everything if it actually works ill be in it for what a nice benchtop mill is.

You could not really replace a tasks you could do on a lathe with a milling machine. And opposite. If you go for a bit bigger machine, very likely you could work without any upgrades.

Really nice I like the proxxon stuff. But don't see it lot here USA. Unless it's Internet. Not n lot big box stores. I have real nice almost new old stock DB 200. It has mill column and all original stuff that main lathe/mill combo came with wooden box to. It belong to a dentist estate sale. It's one of early models heavy with one big x bottom casting well I like ur video going be checking them out. Stay safe from ur ole hillbilly buddy. Oh I have proxxon m70 cross slide table nice got good deal on it but small side not super Ridgid but for what it is it's nice.

Even harbor freight is out of there milling machines, not sure if they have lathes anymore. Of course as soon as I start seriously looking there hard to find, like 3 years ago they were all over for cheap. Seems like every machine now needs a ton of upgrades or your spending too much. There all from China so I might just find a guy there to send me one.

Yes and sometimes you are so lucky that it´s even made flawless enough to work with it out of the box. I got a lathe from china 7 by 14 for 600 dollars and it was even made with steel gears. 👌

i wondered if you have your motor with speed feedback/servo mode? i had an idea for gearing:too late, but, i thought that you could take motor and sun/planet gear from a 'scrapped' cordless drill, or, just the gearing, to give a nice speed reduction? if you took the transmission, complete, you might even have high/low range selection, low enough speed even for threading, or...

I was thinking about planetary gearbox. But decided to go just with adding of 2 gears.

Nice project ! I have a question. I have bought a spindle motor with 24000 rpm and 1,5kw do you think I can lower down the speed with a GT2 belt or is the speed to fast for it to handle ? I think 24000 rpm is too much for milling steel I guess. I wanted to divide the speed by 3.
@sinadaneshkhah8537 Жыл бұрын
Of course you can

If you read alitl about pouly and mathematic about this you will andrstand and you will see easily you can do

Thank you for your answer 👍

I wondered that too. I think you could use a speed control if some kind. I think at a lower rpm with more power it would cut fine.

Yes I will implement a vfd because it´s basically a 3 phase bldc motor that I have only made for rectified 230v. The RC type bldc motors are made for lower voltages therefor maybe I don´t even need a belt because the motor is huge with it´s 1500w rating. I have to try it.😄

Wow, love the concept, very well thought out! You're running out of space fast in there haha :) I'm planning to upgrade mine via the lazy a2212 soon, as a stop-gap upgrade until I can decide on the best upgrade, yours is coming out very much on top. as you keep the machine looking kinda stock :)
