I just bought a whale blue 10-top with rosewood fretboard. Playing through a clean amp with a relatively light finger-style, I could get the tone that Gary Grainger is producing at the beginning of the clip. I can't reproduce his style but... a bass that sounds like this one - does make me work hard to achieve it. The quality of the bass and Grainger's style - form the best incentive to strive for excellence I've had in 30 years. I love the low, precise action (that of course is adjustable for more violent styles). The action, neck finish and width are all speed-sauce for my arthritic left thumb. In short, it is an absolute blast... As far as all the comments about how these two men communicate, how much knee touching, etc... Please grow up. Mr. Grainger is obviously a genius on the bass. Mr. Smith is a genius in turning artist preference, wood and metal into instruments of jaw-dropping beauty with equally amazing breadth and depth of tone. So, the two men may not appear to be the perfect pair for charades, but when it comes to colluding to produce a super-cool 5-string for jazz, blues, rock, praise and worship... just close your eyes and listen to the bass.

PRS really nailed it with this bass. Much like the legendary Yamaha Nathan East BBNE2, the PRS Gary Grainger bass is the result of a great instrument builder really listening to a serious bassist's suggestions and following through. I've played two of these so far and both we're easily as good as any USA MTD or Ken Smith that I have ever played. There's an organic quality to the tone, even though it's voice is very modern. The construction and playability were phenomenal to say the least. They ain't cheap for sure, but you get what you pay for in this case. The tone is very versatile, anything from Ken Smith punch and clarity to Musicman straight up grind and bottom end. It can cover both those iconic bass tones and then some. It's always modern, but it just kills at it. These are not your Dad's PRS basses from the 80s and 90s, not even a little bit....

@stevekahn57967 жыл бұрын
Mr Meier, that doesn't preclude him from being a freaky "knee touchy" guy, does it? I'll change the subject matter even more here and ask you a question. How does a real man choose to call himself a mensch? This is not rhetorical, I am curious. I have always thought that one was supposed to be assigned to a person based on ones merit. I am guessing you are the opposite of your youtube name, and "hidin behind a display off youtube" smh

I tried this bass several times and it is maybe the best 5 stringer I've ever played. But this video doesn't make justice to it at all. It sounds awfully thin and clancky to my ears. Nothing close to how it really sounds.

I just got a GG 5 a week ago, my first PRS bass. I'm a guitarist, but play other instruments for recording purposes. I only really have a few complaints: Tele saddles, it just seems PRS could have done better than that; and the lip around the edge of the body found on the Core models is absent. I LOVE that little lip. Also, I can't find wooden tuner buttons and the solid shaft pots don't accept my push-on knobs, which are more common than the screw-on. Regardless of my doesn't-affect-my-playing quibbles, I know I got a great bass and it was at a great price.
