One suggestion. When reviewing budget guitars it would be best to run them through more modest amps. Most guitars would sound awesome if played through an £1,800 amp. Try them on a low end solid state amp.
@chefo9310 жыл бұрын
+1 for that. They sound really nice, but we don't get to hear them through a budget amp ever.
@EzyoMusic10 жыл бұрын
Agreed, or some sub one-grand tube amps. Since there's still people that are convinced they need tubes. Like me, lol.
@orlock2010 жыл бұрын
Since these guitars have the same hardware and the same size, check people using the Fender Mustang II and III. They are playing on expensive amp combos because of the quality of the speakers. If you hooked up a 15 watt Walmart amp up to quality speakers, that amp will sound loud and give a decent clean sound. It's the junk speakers that make low priced amps junk.

It's not the amps, it's the speakers. High end amp combos have quality speakers. If you connect a Walmart amp to a decent speaker, it will sound good clean. You can hear people play their SE guitars (same hardware and size for the SE and SE standard) in a Mustang II and Mustang III.

Bernie Marsden has his signature SE and he plays it over his real '59 Gibson guitars. There is two videos that, have also been joined in a third video, of where he plays the same song in a video with the only difference being the guitars (signature SE and his '59). The SE sounded a little thinner. When he plays live and a lot more instruments are playing and things are being mixed, you hear a generic guitar sound.

I was lucky enough to be blessed with a first gen PRS Santana SE when it first came out and I was utterly blown away by the tones & the sustain. The pickups on it are amazing, I was running through a Fender Hotrod Deluxe back in the day and the pickups fedback so easily if you didnt have your palm or hand on the strings to stop unnecessary noise. I have never considered changing any part of the guitar apart from the turners for locking ones. it is literally my go to guitar for most of the music i play.

Rob Chapman, could you guys maybe perhaps a challenge video where you at the Capt. Take a regular PRS SE guitar, (not the SE Standards in this video), and try modding them up with the higher end hardware pieces that are available on PRS's website? I'm considering about taking my SE 245, and maybe decking it out with the higher-end PRS mods, but I would like to know how much of a difference it would make. I'm thinking: Get locking tuners, the high-end stoptail piece with the little brass divets on the edge of where the strings go off the tailpiece, any of the American PRS pickups, and the nut they use on say custom shop PRS's. See who can make the best modded PRS SE (:
@TylerLL211210 жыл бұрын
I put a mann made trem and 59/09s in my SE cu 24 and it sings! It's a beautiful resonant bell like guitar with a vintage les paul type tone. Night and day from the Korean parts. But if you upgrade get 59/09s over the USA 245 pickups. Because IMO they sound like shit compared to the 59/09. And personally I thing it's a ripoff what they charge for the USA tailpiece. But Goodluck and I hope it works out.

I went and bought a 245. The sustain/bell chimey feedbacking awesomeness is not an anomaly. This did it at shop-volume and at home at reasonable practice volume. The fit/finish wasn't quite up to the standard I was expecting - I needed to file some of the nut myself, polish the frets and oil the fretboard and give it a slight truss adjustment/setup (also blemish in paintwork on neck and back) but after all that, this might be the first guitar I ever bought that won't be getting new parts. It rings like a church bell. It feedsback when you want it to. The fretwork is damn good for this price. Lovely guitar, and incredibly light. The stoptail bridge is solid
@lukeharris76508 жыл бұрын
Hi, was that the SE 245 or SE Standard 245? As far as I know the only difference is that the SE 245 has a maple top. Do you know if the pickups are different? The SE 245 is twice the price of the SE Standard 245
@kbkman77428 жыл бұрын

@lukeharris76508 жыл бұрын
Ah cool! Thanks for the useful info. Definantly worth a think if they are the same pickups! Would save quite a bit of money in England. For me the SE Standard 245 is £220 cheaper than the SE 245.
@kbkman77428 жыл бұрын
that's a crazy amount less. Makes me wonder whether the SEs are a bargain here or our distributor is price gouging on the standards! If you look at the Indonesian ones just keep your eye out for tool marks and blemishes, mine has a few minor ones as I said, nothing that stopped me purchasing it tho.
@jmtgrk10 жыл бұрын
With all due respect: considering all PRS/PRS SE guitar tops are machine/CNC carved, the "degree" of carve, "flatness", "deeper", or "violin" carve, etc should have a negligible effect on the cost of the guitar. The flatter carve on their Korean made SE's is purely to protect their USA made line by keeping the SE's more bland.
