Your listeners won’t regret buying a USA Silver Sky … as long as they can scrape the payments together - no remorse here after buying 2 of them. My guitar buddies call it my most playable guitar. I put a Floyd on it … you will need a neck shim … plenty of KZbin videos on it … it is scary hammering the nut off a $2500 guitar … but you can usually fix most problems you create doing it … go for it! For me, it fixed the only thing it lacked - tuning stability if you use the tremolo.

I have the rosewood SE and I'm not sure wither I should also have the maple and sell off my Player Series maple strat, I know they sound different, but I just feel the neck and tuning is better on the Silver Sky's.

Another awesome video! Tom Butwin just had a PRS factory tour at Maryland, in his recent YT video, you can see all the SE guitars coming into Maryland. You can see that PRS opens every single one of them and checks them - correct them if needs to be. So, no wonder they are so good out of the box! In that matter, they are indeed prepared, but not only for KZbinrs but for all of us. Knowing this now, I value the SE line ever more ,since I know that US labor also goes into them as a final QC check!

I have a PRS SE standard 24, so it has a gloss finish neck and I honestly adore it. I don't know how they do it vs other guitar makers, but the gloss finish on PRS necks never seem to bother me or feel sticky or anything. It would definitely be cool to see more satin neck finishes options in the future from them, but whatever they're doing with their gloss finishes it's caused no problems for me where other brands' gloss necks do.

I just found your channel and went through a bunch of videos. Recently, I've been digging through KZbin and reddit/forums for more in-depth info on kinda niche topics such as noiseless single coils with little to no compromise in tone (like the Fishman Fluence and Zexcoil offerings), and ergonomics/playability (like the Perfomaxe and Abasi ēmi videos). I was surprised to find many of those various questions answered all at once, in greater detail and clarity than I've been able to find anywhere else, here on your channel. You have a pretty unique thing going with your approach to guitar analysis and reviews, with the way your content has a heavy emphasis on those kinds of pragmatic elements, while still touching upon the more traditional concerns like tone, price/value, and so on, like in this video. Personally, I'm already getting a lot of value out of your content (the Performaxe is exactly the kind of thing I've been thinking of/looking for, and I signed up for the email waiting list for it after watching that video), and I think it fills a sorely needed niche of approaching reviews of the actual guitars with an analytical mindset that, on my other favorite guitar-centric channels, is typically reserved mostly for content about other gear, like pedals, amps, and plugins. I wish you luck and hope the channel gets the growth and attention it deserves. - As a side note, have you tried any asymmetrical neck profiles apart from the Abasi Concepts guitars? For example, something like the Wolfgang neck profile on Warmoth necks, or the SlimTaper profile on the Epiphone Les Paul Modern. I'm curious to see how you would feel about those, as I have seen you mention a preference for fatter necks in a few videos like this one, but you seemed to like the Abasi ēmi neck a lot. I've seen practically nothing but positive responses from people who have tried those kinds of asymmetrical neck profiles, with the caveat that the nut width can affect the feel of the shape closer to the nut, and it's something I'd want to keep in mind for future purchases/builds.

Thanks for your comment :). It’s much appreciated! I’ve tried only 1 extremely asymmetrical neck but I didn’t have anything nice to say about the neck or the guitar so I only put it on Patreon. It’s a topic I want to go more into and I have ideas but it would require a sponsor like Warmoth. We shall see!

Awesome review again Andre. My big hang-ups with the SE Silversky (rosewood) vs the core Silver sky were the satin neck and electronics. To me the thin satin finish on the se was too thing and felt ruff on my hand. Not painful but enough to feel sticky the longer I played. The other issue I had was the pickups sounded more compressed compared to the us counter part. I still found both versions incredibly fun to play but in a shootout I fell in love with PRS Fiore. It just had a little more of that PRS DNA in it. The pickups were a little quackier and I loved the versatility of the hss layout combined with the ability to activate the neck pickup in any position. I think it worked better for me just because my main guitar is a USA Tremonti so I didn't need a more low end focused singlecoil sound like the Silver Sky. Also the neck is so nice. Right in between my 06 Tremonti (Wide Fat), and my 07 main. Tremonti (Wide Thin same carve as thr Holcomb) but just a little narrower so it was still a comfortable handshake type profile but also very quick. Plus, the10 in radius also helps fill in the gaps. It too has a very thinly finished neck but felt smoother than the se Silver sky so it felt as fast if not faster than my glossed prs necks.

I have two signature PRS SE, Åkerfeldt and Holcomb (the first), both partly bought because of the satin finish xD (Actually, I have 3 SEs, Pauls guitar, bought it despite being glossy. Still in love with it nearly a year after purchase!)

More valuable info on the SS SEs. Thanks. A local store has a bunch and I was looking at a 2024 (2023 F serial number) overland grey/maple and a 2023 (2022 E serial number) evergreen/rosewood. The grey/maple had too much grain on the fretboard and what looked like a large water spot on the second fret. The evergreen/rosewood just didn't click for me and the neck dots were kind of light. I looked at several and ended up getting a 2024 nylon blue/maple (the exact guitar you demoed) and a 2023 dragon fruit/rosewood. They were on sale (a PRS sale that actually ended in December) but the owner gave me the 679 sale price on the blue and 10% off the dragon fruit because he only had one. They're setting them up for me for possible pick up today. They definitely needed set up because they had been sitting in the warehouse in the gig bags in the boxes, humidity controlled but not temperature controlled (S. AZ ) The store has a 14 day return policy, so I'll see how they look and play set up. Number one is a good straight neck. They have a very good repair shop so the setup should be perfect. It will be interesting to see the difference in the 2023 and 2024 necks as you outlined. May keep both or may sell one, we'll see. The Players I tried had some sharp fret ends and the necks were harder for me to play. The number one criterion for me is a great, easy to play neck.

Some of these have pretty thick necks with low overall weights, which I posted yesterday in a comment which it seems KZbin did not actually accept because I included a link to a particular guitar at Wildwood Guitars (who measure every neck in stock); if I recall correctly, that guitar's neck ranged from .870" to .980" and weighed less than seven pounds.

The two post trem is also strange to me, but I think it has to do with PRS new routine on the core models to drill the 6 points through the body so that - if they were to break, they can be replaced. They are then cut from underneath so that they dont poke out. In other word the height of them are set perfect and will never have to be touched. To do that on the SE with the inferior bridge, maybe the 2 point is a better option IF the trem is going to be decked AND not have to be as carefully drilled and installed. Just my guess. The 2 posts will not break if height adjusted but the 6 screws with notches will. Dont get me wrong - i prefer the 6 point design - but this is probably easier to get Absolutely right at the factory. Another bet is the poplar might behave different than alder to drill.

I liked the USA Silver Sky so much I bought one for my brother-get it on credit, you won’t regret it. I installed a Floyd Rose on mine myself … had to use a neck shim to get the action back. Found Neil Schon’s tech beat me to being the first to do it. The “quack” tone of the bridge is why I had to have a single coil … it’s AWESOME! Got that Scorpions’ “Wind of Change” tone now. You won’t regret buying it on credit or in cash - PRS’s last forever and don’t even lose value (like I would ever sell mine … no way!).

I just bought an NF53 which I believe has the same finish as the Silver Sky (at least on the neck). I played a SS SE and Core at GC a few days ago, and decided I didn't need a non Strat Strat, but I did note differences between the SE and Core versions. Sitting here playing this NF53 (core) and recalling what the SE neck felt like, I have a couple of things to say: 1) For the price the SE is pretty great, and it sounded close enough to the core to not make the core worth the extra money...based on the sound. But 2) The finish on these core necks (and the body of my NF53 as well) is something special, and over time I won't notice the extra money spent on the core, but everytime I pick it up I enjoy the luxurious feel. So, my take is, for me at least, if I'm able, I'm going for the core. Life is TOO short!

I primarily play 24" scale models because with my very short fingers it just makes everything more comfortable ergonomically for me, but as a result my choice in instruments have been reduced to basically just Fenders. I'd love to see somebody take a further look and see if there are any good alternative brands out there since Fender seems to have a chokehold on that particular part of the guitar market because after countless hours searching I'm yet to find a solid competitor.

I did re-string with .008's and went to a really cool inexpensive vintage style locking tuner ($44 on Amazon) I much prefer it to my overpriced Player Mustang P90 ... No provision for noiseless operation (no RWRP pickup on the Mustang ) and the SOS has cool series & out of phase wiring ... For half the price ! Great fretwork too, on the SOS. I own both. They are 85% the same. Pickups sound pretty much the same. The biggest difference is the neck and feel. The two point Trem was John's choice. For a guy that really doesn't use the trem, he was very specific about it! It came down to the JM and the Nick Johnston for me, and the NJ won only because the neck is flatter. The NJ also has jumbo frets. It looks like a Strat, but it is more like a Suhr. While the JM looks like a Strat, but it is better than a Fender. At least to me. It kills a Mexi Fender to me. And you CAN go a little crazy with the trem! the JM I played held tune really well!

Dre, if the rosewood and maple fretboard Silver Sky SE's are two different models, then you'd have to think the same with the Core rosewood/malpe models. Therefore, based on your thinking, wouldn't there be 4 models? And if so, wouldn't that mean that you only tried 3 out of 4, and not "them all?" 🤔😆 I'm just playing, bro! I'm not being an douche by any stretch of the imagination. It does make sense, though! I was just compelled to comment when you said you tried them all but haven't reviewed a maple board Core model yet. The SE SS is a great guitar. I own one myself. I love the channel, bro! Cheers!👍

PRS just make the best mass production guitars full Stop. I’ve had USA gibsons and fenders and PRS is a whole level above them but for the same price.

Neck on se did not have rolled edges. Deal breaker.
@markuyehara7880 Жыл бұрын
How many guitars in this price range have rolled edges? Besides, if this is such an issue for you, just roll it yourself with some fine grit sandpaper. It doesn't take very long and it's never impacted resale value for me.

You're confused about about why the bridge is not the standard PRS trem bridge? Why are you confused? It's a signature model & that's probably what the artist who put his signature on the guitar wanted. Why would you be confused about alternate appointments on a "signature" model? Common sense, no? 🍻
@andrefludd Жыл бұрын
the core model has the 6 screw bridge and John Mayer plays 6 screw bridges even when it’s fender. So why would they make a new bridge that isn’t the artist’s preference that also isn’t on any other guitar when they already make the type of bridge he plays.
@markuyehara7880 Жыл бұрын
The mystery is why John Mayer put a trem on his budget signature model that's objectively worse for his style of playing. That makes it less of a signature model and more of a variant that appeals to different types of players.

@@andrefludd & @markuyehara7880 Well, it's a fact that if the artist didn't want/approve it, then it wouldn't be there. Having said that, Paul Smith is a stickler for details & tends to have a reason for everything he does. So, it's either John wants it or Paul rationalised it.
