I planted these the last April-May in Dallas and it is still green. My usual experience with ornamental grass is that they are dormant and you can cut them back whereas these are still growing. Should I cut them back or just let them grow without trimming them back?

So they don't require pruning in the Fall...mine are still lovely and with the mild weather we've been having in Southern Ontario I hate to cut them back...so can I leave them until the Spring? They are slightly protected from our roof's overhang and close to the exterior brick wall. It's the first year for them in my garden

My hardiness zone is a 3 to 4. Karl Foerster is labeled a 5. How do you protect these grasses in Ontario?

I am also in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We prune our grasses in the fall because we found if we do not, the voles make nests in the middle and burrow away in the winter. Once they have a lovely place to nest, they will destroy your green grass by tunnelling through it all winter under the snow. So as much as we like the look of the gold grass against the snow, we do not like to encourage the voles to have a place to nest.

We also do not need to protect in the winter. Very hardy grass. And we have -35 C temps!

Landscapers worst enemy. Cut over 5,000 of these a year. Have one guy grab the tassels and another guy cuts the tassels then trim up the sides. An absolute chore and they keep planting more lol
