I wanted to look at the structure low on the tree, to see the development of the scaffold branches. As with almost every peach pruning video, the lower part of the tree does not make it into the frame. The camera person makes certain that the face of the pruner was in frame at all times, which makes sense on a pruning video, as there is little pruning down low. Still, I would have liked to see the lower tree. It's November now, and I have a grafted peach whip that I planted last April. After planting, I cut it off at knee height. It has 2 fat branches growing about 4 inches above the graft. Should I have pruned them before they got so big? How old should I let it get before I prune it? At the top of the trunk, there are 4 branches that don't look very good for scaffold branches. One branch is growing almost vertically just below the knee height cut I made. Opposite this branch is a bump on the trunk with 3 branches growing out of it. What about bumps? Ever see any bumps on a peach tree? Are they a structural problem?
