Prusa Mini belt tension -

How tight do you tension the belt?

I have them both set to where I can pinch the belts together with my fingers and not feel like it is a strain to do so. If you pull it like a rubber band it has a deep sound. Loose you get a lazy blah thud like sound. HA HA overly tight and it will sound like a guitar string and I don't like them set like that. I hope that makes some sort of sense, if not let me know and I will see if I can setup a quick video.

John's 3D Printing Corner thanks John, I actually have an issue if I tighten it down the belt tilts a bit. If you can provide a video it would be truly appreciated. The prusa help guide doesn’t really say how tight etc. I’ve been getting z banding and trying to fix the root cause of the issue..

@@Johns3DPrintingCorner I'm just watching this video now and it wasn't very clear about how tight the belts were and what your conclusion was. you say the belts were as tight as they can go but by your description here it sounds like you were comparing a super loose belt to just a medium or average tensioned belt, as apposed to a super tight belt, is that accurate? so really your comparison here is between a loose belt and a properly tensioned belt, you did not test really tensioning to be super taught. id imagine a very tight tension wouldn't cause as many issues with the print but rather introduce more drag, noise, heat, and slower times. potentially some artifacts but not like a loose belt.

www.thingiverse.com/thing:3209955 Here you go, it is actually meant for adjusting a setting that the Duet boards have in their firmware. I thought it would be good enough to show what was going on with the differences in belt tension. It works really well for my Duet powered machines as I can reduce the ghosting to almost nothing.

I really like the design and look of the Mini. But they seem to have a lot of issues.

I was not expecting it to be honest, probably nothing they saw in the print farm. Us users always find better ways to break things. I am sure they will or may already be tweaking the design as machines continue to ship. 3d printing can be a bit like racing, some days your machine has bad luck.. 😆

Only one is mine, the other belongs to a friend that ordered a few hours after I did. His was a few days behind mine. He broke his after a Minda probe failure, so I get to rebuild it. 😜

I ordered on 27th of october. At this rate I'll expect my first printer in june. Just thought about buying one of the mini clones at ali as they are starting to arrive

Agreed the quick clones popping up are rough. I think Peter from Blurolls on Ali is working on something. I will see if I can get confirmation, he has done some nice BLV kits and mods.
