Ps VR2 review
After using the PS VR 2 for almost a month this is what I think.
Image quality inside the headset is fantastic, with 4k HDR OLED screen side this display you get fantastic image quality inside the headset, blacks are deep, the images are crisp and vibrant. The headset gets bright enough where there were times I had to black the sun with my hands because of how intense the brightness can get.
Its a huge jump up from the PSVR 1 or the oculus quest in terms of image quality and fidelity and I would say in the image graphics looks on par with something you would see on the PS4 pro running at 90-120 frames a second.
The headset uses a few tricks to make this happen. The headset has inbuilt eye tracking which allows for something called foliated rendering. This means that system can render high quality graphics only around the location you are looking at and bring in lower lower of details for the parts out of focus, allowing for more graphical headroom to accomplish smooth framerates.
This really is shown off in games like horizon call of the mountain and resident evil village with the graphics being top notch.
In terms of conforms I has absolutely no complaints, I have had 2 hours sessions playing with the headset and its comfortable to use and fogs up significantly less than the psvr which prevents my face from sweating in extended play throughs
All the parks that touch your head or face are nicely padded with soft touch materials and don’t lave you with VR face.
Tracking is excellent with the headset working flawlessly even in lower lit environments and not loosing site of my space in VR or my controllers even once in my play time.
Speaking of controllers, these are also a generational leap in terms of feel, tracking and immersion. The controllers feel lights , ergonomic to user and with the tracking being ultra precise , it’s a breeze to use in menus and even aiming in first person shooters.
The haptic features in both the headset and the controllers adds a new level of immersion in games like RE village where you feel the intensity of every shotgun blast and reload. It honestly felt like a completely new experience event through I played the RE7 on the PSVR 1 these new controllers combines with the higher fidelity of graphics on the headset wowed me over and over again.
Now even though the hardware is outstanding, currently the game selection is mid ranging at best, with RE village being a stand out. , and call of the mountain though visually amazing being a B at best.
Other games I tried like No mans sky , just didn’t have the graphical fidelity I expected after these 2 games and if your into racing games I have heard gT7 is supposed to be a great experience if you have a steering and pedal set.
But as of right now apart of Saint and sinners, there isn’t really a game I’m dying to play on the platform.
You can tell the hardware is definitely there, 500 USD for the quality of headset you get and the experience that it delivers is justified, And Sony has the quality of development teams that can propel VR into a new Era. I just hope that their disappoint sales numbers don’t threw off their plans and PSVR 2 becomes more mainstream cause the experiences you can get are truly amazing.
