Thing is, at the time they were right. It was weird and felt unnatural. Splitting the controls to move over two hands. It was like trying to a paint a wall while tapdancing

The "problem" with Vagrant Story at the time was that the game is VERY complex for a kid/teen. It also had some uncommon mechanics that unless you were into RPGs you wouldn't be familiar with. Also also, menu-ing galore. It's not a very "active" game. But it's amazing.

@13:00 FromSoftware developed Tenchu Z in 2006 for the 360 too! It was a game that felt like it was made on a budget (even back then) but would make a fun modern indie title if it was released today. (@3:09 Seeing that Alien Resurrection FPS controls quote from Gamespot never gets old 😅)

My brother and I sunk COUNTLESS hours into Driver 2. I loved that game. Rarely wanted to get out of cars though. That game created my initial hatred for tank controls (which Parasite Eve 2 fixed 👍) but it’s a great game. Also Tenchu. Played that game a lot too.

Vagrant story launched when ps2 hype was at its highest. I think FFIX also suffered in sales because of it. The graphics of Vagrant story still impress me considering when it was released and the hardware it used.

It was with the follow up Music 2000, that I was able to use the GCon adaptor with the L and R outputs that I was able to copy the music onto a minidisc. I still have them. I don't think I've ever said anything more 90s without mentioning pogs.

I mean ff12 was stated to be a spiritual successor as it has alot of similar themes and gameplay, plus ff12 and the ff tactics games take place in ivalice which is all but confirmed to be the same world as vagrant story in every way but name honestly it's part of why I loved ff12 when it came out when everyone else didn't, because it reminded me heavily of vagrant story which I played as a kid

Haha, was not expecting that Busted reference! Great vid! I played the Jumping Flashes (usually you'd get arrested for that) recently and found the games to still be fun and unique takes on first person platforming. Probably helps that they defintively don't overstay their welcome with a fairly svelte combined playtime of around 4 hours.

I think C-12: Final Resistance is missing here. I have never completed it, but the dual stick gameplay feels insanely modern. Feels like a modern 3rd person shooter with some quirks. It handles camera and aiming with the right stick better than most PS2 games even. This is huge.

Driver!!! LMAOOOO i had a ps1 when i was like 7, and loved driver! but i remember getting stuck in that garage too! so i would always just restart the game and run around to steal cars. sooooo glad to know i wasn’t the only one! bc there’s several games where i would get stuck and not know how to proceed, so i just gave up on the game, even up to the ps2. im convinced those couple of games involved the use of R3 or L3 and i was too dumb to know what that was lol.

Great picks all around * Yeap, Alien Resurrection deserves to be re-examined. It's amazing. * Oh, Music! I had created a full album that was taking space in the whole memory card. I lost that card, don't remind me! :( * Fact; Galerians was censored in EU, grab yourself an NTSC copy. * YES! King's Field - Now I appreciate you even more! Souls games would not even exist without KF, Miyazaki learned his trade off Naotoshi Zin. And hell yeah, of course it's playable today, I've recently finished the first 3 KF (including Japan''s only). Moody, atmospheric dread like no other.

music was not europian exclusive.... well actually the us had mtv music maker. it was very very advanced for what it was MM2 for ps2 was hella weak compared to the original which in my opinion is pretty close in terms of features to fruity loops. it was limited in a few ways but it even allowed you to convert audio to midi and store samples on a memory card a friend of mine used it to remix the star wars episode one theme into a techno track. fighter maker was pretty deep as well but not like DAZ or anything

Alien Resurrection. Max Payne was the first dual stick controls game I ever played. I was so mad, screaming and yelling that this game seems so cool but these controls are retarded! It's so funny that early review sites complained about it the same way I did. I can't go back to anything without it. 007 GoldenEye is garbage.

The FL Studio analogy for Music is very incorrect. The first Midi Tracker was released in 1989 for Atari St Homecomputers. Music literally came out 1 year AFTER the first edition of FL Studio.... And FL Studio already wasnt the first more acessible DAW/Tracker. Logic's first edition came out for Apple Macs in 1993. It was very outdated in features even for the time. The only thing it had going for it was being on console. Theres alot of similair Windows 95 programs where you can "Make music" but only from a prerecorded library (Dance Ejay came out 1 year before). But just like the PS1 game Music, Dance Ejay for Personal Computer is also low quality shovelware.
