It isn't how I hit the drums just the heads soooooooo want mantio percussion steer heads on my congas in future! Yes I did check out conga chops great site enjoyed free trail while it lasted!

A guy who repairs congas explained to me that you can mount a string inside the conga and hang a sock on it. Apparently this is a very easy measure to get rid of the ringing (it otherwise doesn't affect the conga so it's safe, but I cannot give you more details).
