Ps2 disc read error

Any help would be appreciated. Discs won’t read as they always stop spinning.

You can fix it by applying a little bit of pressure on the dvd or putting a tissue half side in and the other half out with closing the lid

@@speedcubingforlife1915or it needs a lens cleaning with a slightly damp q tip. If that doesn’t work you should take it apart and locate the disc drive, there are two small screws under it and you rotate the right one by two degrees towards you. Adjust until drive doesn’t dial out the game and actually reads it.

@@ziogospanagiotis You can hear it spin the game and if it can’t read then it just stops spinning the disc. It’s a distinct “Click-Click” If it does it more than twice it probably won’t read. Had this issue with gt4.

@SouchiantPourheidar Separate the top shell from the bottom and there should be some screws by the disc drive. Turn those to the right to re calibrate it.

Before you pop in the disc go press triangle. - hover over “console” press triangle again and turn on diagnose - then pop the disc back in and it should read

Clean the laser w isopropyl and adjust the potentiometers! If that doesn’t work you should buy a new laser.

If anyone having this problem still the slim version of the console has a ribbon cable poking out from the laser when the adhesive on the back wears away the disc scratches the ribbon cable eventually the ribbon scratches and stops the ps2 from reading the disc, look at the bottom of the your discs if there scratches, check the ribbon by gently pulling the laser across. If so you can buy ribbons for cheap but make sure its for you model. Hope this helps

I just say clean the laser lens or get a new laser/whole drive but if its only the laser just get the laser and a ribbon cable for the laser that can cause issues too

Try cleaning with Isopropyl Alcohol 91% clean the laser and laser eye lens on the disc drive. If it’s still not reading disc, then replace the laser.

You need to adjust the potentiometers on the laser assembly. Counter clockwise should improve/fix it. Yes there's 2 of them. One is for DVDs and the other CDs, do both

I have the same issue with 77004 console. Tried adjusting the potentiometers. Dvd to around 1042 ohms and cd to about .523 ohms. Based in a video on YT. Now the issue has worsened. Moral of the story - use a multimeter and remember exact measurements.😂😂 It used to spin like in the video and now only the laser moves but does not spin at all. I read an article and unless someone tinkered with the it is pointless to try to adjust. If in any other case it works you should just clean the console.

Try using a stick and find something that can spin the disc.

looks like it was an optical drive problem so they had to replace the whole optical drive nvm it cost $50 just to repair the optical drive gonna pick it up next week

so what do i do? mine makes that weird "eehnm" sound then the whole system shuts off!!! do i just find something to hold the button down or is there more to it? it wont spin discs, and when it makes that weird robotic "eeeh" sound it just shuts the whole system off.

I just cleaned the lens with 70% isopropypl alcohol pad. I had the same problem

There are 2 potentiometers under the disc motor, adjust them 2° clockwise give or take and itll help

That must have been the RSOD. I was pretty scared when that happened to me. The disc got scratched and it wouldn't even play until I looked at the browser and that screen scared me so badly.

@STANLEY-MITCHELL Buff the scratches on the disc then it should come back to you. Normal toothpaste and a disc resurfacing machine are good methods.

@@xelimax I just dropped my ps2 in a local repair shop today, I'll update when they tell me what happened but I even changed the motor, the lens and the worm motor and nothing. My guess is a malfunctioning chip that's not giving enough voltage but I'm just an amateur

@@scotth1362 hey, just last friday the guy i gave it to told me the problem was on the motherboard on BOTH ps2 i gave (mine and a friend's) which idk, seems a bit weird to me but hey, supposedly he sent them to experts. sorry i couldn't be of help however as a last resort on the motherboard I know there are a couple or so chips that control the motor and the laser which can get burnt overtime. if you want to check their voltages and seek replacements for them (idk if theyre expensive) go ahead, I might try to myself although not for now, sorry
