I beat the game with all ships unlocked and all secrets found in 2004 back in the days. You just have to play it over and over again. With no internet i spend weeks to find everything. Awesome time.

@MonHun I love R-Type Final 2 so much, I think it's the best modern shmup with the sheer amount of content and such. I know people may disagree with me but I just greatly enjoy the game.

What a wonderful game this was. One of the few games where I've bothered to finish it to 100%, got absolutely obsessed with it a couple of years ago when my PS3 broke. Absolutely loved the level of detail they went into with the lore and the stories they told.

You know, as a 10 to 13 year old that was obsessed with this game for no apparent reason, I think I get why I loved this game so much now that I'm rewatching it at age 26: The design of the large enemies is so satisfying, you slowly peel away layers from it and it really gives the impression that you're cleaning the screen. I think it's something that tapped into my OCD and I never found out why until today. Add the ship collecting aspect of the game and you've got me hooked. Now I really wanna play this game again...

@@manuell3505 these aren't 2d graphics. They are 3d polygonal graphics on a 2d side scrolling plane. R -Type Delta on the PS1 was the same way, and somehow runs a lot better than this game lol.

3:39 - the second-most chilling moment in the entire game... ...once you have gone through Stage F-B, which both beats it and explains why you fly uncontested by a Bydo craft at the very start of this. :P

Sincerely I expected more of this. Seems like the creative peak was in R-Type Delta. Even the soundtrack fitted amazingly with the gameplay! I pray for the next sequel to delight us with unexpected stuff.

I was trying to unlock the ships last nite and I found an alternate level 6 and my ship morphed into some sick ass Bydo meat-ship and then there was an alternate version of Level 1 where you fight a shit load of Rtype ships I cant believe this is real

thi was really decent, its the only R-type I owned as Ps1 was my console and i own them all so far, this was an incredibly decent shmup, tons of variety, i had trouble finishing without great effort so i havent completed it in ages, thanks for the video! :)

There are certainly some pretty easy parts of this game but there are also insanely hard parts where you have to squeeze into tiny spaces and dodge a plethora of almost seemingly randomly moving particles and beams and chunks of debris. Whoever filmed this long play makes this look like childs play. Crazy.

I only had the demo to this game. Thought I'd check it out in the form of a play through. ...I must say that this guy is bloody talented. That was on the hardest difficulty, right? Looked like you didn't even take damage the entire game! ...Only thing that bothers me was that ending. Or, rather, the apparent lack thereof. And the background of the final stage has to be the most bizarre and awkward thing I've seen in any video game...what were they aiming for??? XD

Totally badass game; I, for one, love the slow pace and sombre music as it lends it a way cooler atmosphere than more frenetic games like Gradius V, while offering no less of a challenge. Just a shame about the limp ending.

I feel like R-Type Final was the right game, but a generation too soon. Imagine if this were on the X360/PS3/PC or maybe even what we currently consider next-gen hardware... Silky smooth framerates plus the chance to flesh out the gameplay more. With darius-esque branching paths or a stage editor to keep the player going, this'd be freaking amazing.

They are sending a message to the player (pilot log computer) that they (Bydo) are indeed humans. "How else would we know how you copulate?"

@@Terraqueo22 Bydo have the ability to "bydofy" R craft. They basically goad the space corps into going into these missions just so they can convert their pilots and ships into Bydo. In R-Type Final there's 2 "bad" endings that show one pilot being turned into Bydo and another where the pilot is sent into the future where Bydo technology is created using their ship and force. The third and main ending shows the victory against one of the final cores.
