All these titles for PS2 are still playable online including the first Killzone albeit Chaos Theory is only by way of LAN-tunneling - Spy vs. Mercenary is where that shines.

First game I played with voice chat was SOCOM. I remember being so into that game! Me and a random guy started a clan together, because we met and a random match and having a good time. It was really cool because I have fond memories of our group getting together one night a week and playing together, or talking over IM about strategies for different maps. Good times! Now a days a lot of multiplayer games seem more about "Can you quickscope?!" when back in the day it was more like "Do you know what teamwork is?"

Man, Resident Evil Outbreak was the online RE and it was absolutely awesome for the RE series. Being able to wander around knowing you had other friends somewhere; not knowing if they were dead, or alive. You kinda made semi-prepped plans in the lobby of who was doing what objective, but for the best fun it was to go in with new comers on your first time for full immersiveness.

Socom 2 was my very first online game. I played it almost all throughout sixth grade(lol) and through that entire summer and even longer. That same summer I think I got an original xbox. But I will never forget playing Socom 1 and 2 online. Remember only ONE person could talk at a time and you had to hold the circle button? hahahaha wow it's crazy. I wish they could remake it but like you said they have since closed :( oh well. very fond memories.

Regarding online games for the PS2; in my collection I had much fun with TimeSplitter and Socom. My best memories are with Need for Speed Undergound 2, there was so much to do there, from tuning your car, parts, a lot of races and able to create your own unique car based on the cars in the game was awesome, there was also a chat system. Tony Hawk Underground 2 was a lot of fun with all the different modes available, even the other games from the Tony Hawk series were fun online. Note: I used a PS2 network disc on my PS2 slim to play those games. It still works today.
@That_Handle2 жыл бұрын
If you're still equipped with a PS2 or B-C PS3, all those games you mentioned and more can be played online again. As for the _TimeSplitters 2_ and _Future Perfect,_ though, the only online multiplayer that's possible is LAN-tunneling or, as an alternative, shared-screen remote play (via parsec, etc.). _PS2 Online Gaming_ and _PS2 Online - Communidad Oficial_ have uploaded various titles' online play among other individual content creators.

My first online console experience was Quake 3 Arena for the Dreamcast. My first online gaming experience was actually Gunbound on the PC. There was also the Magic The Gathering Online game back in the day on Windows 95 I do believe. I put a lot of hours into that game. If MUDs count, those are actually my first real online gaming experience. Still hate Telnet to this day.

I was a huge SOCOM guy. I played them all the way through to Combined Assault. I loved those games. I also really liked death matches in XIII, but it never had many people on the servers, even around it's launch. It was solid, though. I remember when Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence was released, I had to preorder it (even though I already had MGS3) just to get Metal Gear Online. You had to do a lot of port-forwarding and configuration on your PC/router to get it to connect properly and then it was kind of a let down. The maps were really small, as I recall. It was fun for a bit, though.

The one I played the most online was Auto Modellista, unfortunately because of the "wall bouncing" it just ended up with who can slam into the walls at the best angle instead of actual racing. Games with LAN support(Like SOCOM or Gran Turismo 4) can be LAN tunneled through Xlink Kai, which essentially allows for online multiplayer.
@Nardz0248 жыл бұрын
+Lux Sandre Sweet, someone else was talking about this just 2 hours ago? I'm glad you posted, more people need to know. Right next to Xlink Kai, there's also a few hardcore fans out there working on dedicated servers for a couple online games that didn't have LAN support. (Like Everquest Online Adventures and the original SOCOM, Can't wait)...i'm sure before you know it other great inactive games will get teams to work on them and pop up again too...I'm just hoping at some point someone resurrects Killzone! Damn multiplayer was awesome..Charging in while lighting someone up with the Helghast base weapon, then nailing them with the shotgun secondary right in the head two feet away because they were too stunned to do anything, was seriously the best thing ever. TAtatatataBOOSH-Argg! the ISA secondary on the base weapon was awesome too, lobbing a grenade into a little room with a team of Helghasts and getting two or three guys with one shot HAHAha was so much fun.......damn.. I miss it..
