*FYI:* I have just discovered that you *cannot* disable HDCP on retail PS3's even if you convert it to a Debug Kit Firmware as it's a hardware limitation. Only Authentic Debug Kits can disable HDCP, You're only recourse if you need to disable it on a retail kit is to buy a seperate device to strip the HDCP signal sometimes called "HDCP Strippers".

I purchased a debug console and was able to downgrade from dex official firmware 4.25(looked stock to me) using the dex 3.55 downgrader through the recovery menu. when it first booted up it was black so I figured it could not read the software off the hard disk because it was a newer version so I went back to the recovery menu restored from default, formatted the hard disk and it works, I'm now running official dex 3.55.

I've got the 60GB test system and I was able to log into PSN just fine on all of my accounts with and without CFW but you do have to change the network environment to np and a small quote from team rebug on the matter " Edit the environment variable to connect to the network of your choice. Examples: ”np” : retail network. ”sp-int” : developers network. ”prod-qa” : production quality assurance network. Note : There are other networks than debugs can access but only QA flagged consoles can connect to them (mgmt, rc, etc”¦)." it's region free for all disc based games except I couldn't get my store copy of persona 3 from the eu store to work......I'm saddened by this but on the upside on the japanese store I got a load of trial version games for free....which turned out to be the full games and there was no given time limit on them. multiman has a built in download manager for webman ;) even if you're using wifi you can do PS2 online stuff like grabbing the free skins for metal gear solid 3 :p and I've seen the 60GB model PS3 on sale in the UK but I was too poor to get one at launch....but I'm a proud debug kit owner...I'm hoping to get the reference model that looks like a huge VHS player..... so 10/10

@@blondbassist you can hop to any DEX firmware as well ;) but to go before 3.55 you'll need the 3.55 downgrader, it's on the PS3 dev wiki

Blondbassist, got an interesting question for you - The PS3 60GB NTSC with full PS2 hardware is still region locked for PS1/PS2 games. This means that I would be unable to play my PAL PS2 games on it. Is the PS3 Debug kit you've shown in this video region locked as well for PS1/PS2 BC? I currently still have my launch day PS3 60GB PAL (PS2 GPU only) but it is a shame we got unlucky with the BC in our models.

TheMadPolarBear Good question, thank you for your comment. I have read that a debug kit on regular Sony Debug firmware is region-unlocked for PS3 & PS2 (I assume PS1 too) games. I can confirm that when using custom firmware, even using a retail BC console it is region free as I was able to play the NTSC version of GTA3 and GT4 on a european CECHC BC console with no problems. Hope this helps!

@@blondbassist 10 months later, I now own the DECHA00A Debug kit like you showed in this video. I can confirm that PAL PS2 games DO benefit from the full hardware and play perfectly, region free. Now if i can just get the console to go online, it will become my main PS3.

@MonsieurHiroshima Naa I haven't really done anything with it recently because of other projects like my Xbox 360 Alpha 2 XeDK. I don't think there's a feasible way to go online without using REBUG CFW to spoof your Console ID (IDPS). I haven't done anything like that because I need to de-lid and change the thermal paste in my DECHA00A and then I need to backup the very early version of Hitman Absolution that I found on it. Once that's done, then i'll probably mess with CFW and try going online

The best experience for PS2 playability is either a 60GB NTSC PS3 with the Emotion Engine, or the PS2 itself. Software emulation isn't good enough, Sony botched it badly with the 80GB NTSC/PAL PS3s. I think the software emulation could've been better than what it is.

Not long ago i purchased a cecha01 ps3 that had been refurbished with a bigger fan, new paste etc and a 1tb drive that has 4.82 CFW and it is absolutely amazing but living in the UK, it cost me £327 to get but its fantastic.

Playing discs it cant do because PS1 & 2 games ARE region locked But if you rip them to the hard drive they play fine Only problem is that you cant take advantage of full screen or the better graphics because it does something to the screen settings and freezes the console making you have to unplug it from the wall I found out that if you get “backup” copy’s of your PS1&2 games in NTSC format rather than PAL you can play them no issues from hard drive with full screen and smoothing on. Definitely best way to go by far as i had a PAL backwards compatible console but it was awful as it was software emulation alot of games just had really bad graphic issues Ps3 games are region free so no worries there.

I am loving this video but I have got a bit lost with it now being a bit drunk...I have a retail rebug DEX slim PS3. Not messed with it too much yet but Can I play all/some of the PS2 library on it? I have read something about setting the Cobra option to on or off Which I have done to no avail? I have tried a few crap old WWE PS2 games with no luck, just a black screen and I have to physically unplug my PS3 to switch it off. Can I only run PS2 games from Hard drive (ISOs) or is it that I can only run some PS2 games or is it that its purely PS1 or PS3? Thanks lots and I shall watch this video again tomorrow when I'm less drunk!

PS2 games ISO only. Some PS2 games will work but not as good as the Full PS2 hardware PS3 or the Part PS2 hardware PS3.

Have got 60GB PAL version. Can PS2 games play perfectly on debug 60GB PAL since runner on Emulation does work better on CECHA01 do need that model play ps2 games 100% compatible.

Hey guys,I just got one of these beasts, a DECHA00A. Unfortunately I don't know what's wrong with it. It's not showing any signal from either hdmi or av. The console works just fine,the led stays green and the blue one also shows up when I insert a game. Can someone help me please?

I wouldn't recommend going online with CFW, there are tools out there that supposedly mask the VFW but I'm not going to recommend anything because it risks getting ur console & account banned.
