I think the system has some good games, but I'm also sort of bitter since it was the beginning of games chasing casual gamers with endless tutorials that treat you like a moron, almost every game having brown/grey graphics, a majority of games being shooters/sports/racing games, and so many amazing franchises from the PS2 era and before completely died off because they couldn't sell in the primarily casual market. Some of those problems have been fixed since then with subsequent generations, but others are still an issue to this day.

My very favorite console of all-time (right there with Neo Geo,) and for good reason! What a beast of a piece of technology, they certinally don't make 'em like this anymore. Recently hit 400 games in my PS3 library, PS3 will never die! The ability this thing had in it's end-life able to push out games that looked as good as early PS4 titles, the fact it had backwards compat, the fact it has the BEST soundchip of any home console, and forward thinking technology built in. Just perfection.
@AwRy1083 жыл бұрын
Fantastic work on this video! I was an early adopter of the PS3, and, despite its sloppy launch and relatively slow first year, my eagerness paid off because SONY really stood behind the system: it ended up having a phenomenal library, including some of the most memorable PlayStation exclusives to date. Fat old one is the daddy, I had one for years but my flat burnt down :( Nothing survived, and I bought a PC so went away from consoles. But shit man PS2 blew me away then PS3 literally demolished my sensibilities :D

I jumped ship from X360 to PS3 around the time Uncharted 2 came out. Out of all my retro consoles, my PS3 collection is the largest and there’s a bunch of games there I’ve hardly played. Maybe one day I’ll get around to playing them.

I think that generation of consoles was the last generation where the upgrade in systems really looked like a definite upgrade from the one before, after that, it all really looked the same, thus it's the one I stopped at.

Yeah I miss Halo 3 on the 360 because it was great and didn't need battlepass to unlock things now Halo 3 on MCC on Xbox One, PC and Series X has way too much content that takes forever to unlock and half of it sucks.

For me the last console that really made me go "wow" was a Sega Dreamcast back in 1999. It was such a massive upgrade over PS1 visually. After it, the PS2 felt really underwhelming and just more of the same. PS3 was like an HD PS2. I still loved my ps3 for some great games (Fallout 3, Demon's Souls, etc.) and streamlined online capabilities(COD multiplayer), it was fun. PS4, PS5 though.. nothing really too memorable

@@kicapanmanis1060 graphically sure, more power, but the innovations just not there, the come from behind victory isn't there, the plethora of exclusives was not nearly as big for ps4. vr was great, but ps3 had move, light guns and eye of judgement card game! PS3... it was the only system that ended up with a physical release of Strider, which ended up being my favorite game to play on the system. I also really enjoyed River City All Stars and Lost in the Rain. I also dug a few non-exclusives, like Teslagrad, Journey, and the Dungeons and Dragons Mystara Chronicles, since it brought back 4 player co-op.

The PS3 is my newest console. I played games from the 8-bit days up until around 2008. PS3 was current then, but I didn't have one. I went low tech traveling up until about 2019 when I started to get back into retro gaming. I acquired a PS3 around Christmas last year (2020). Games are dirt cheap right now, I got most of the must-plays for less than $10 each. Good times!

Truly the last great console. Great games, could have hundreds of games installed at once without running out of space, backwards compatible and didn't need to be constantly online to use!

That's an iffy assessment as it was the first console built from the ground up to support DRM based on the system's world clock. DVDs, blu-rays, physical games, downloaded movies, and downloaded games will eventually stop working when two things happen: Sony decides to close the webgate, and the console's CMOS battery dies. The PS4 and presumably the PS5 (perhaps already proven but I stopped following the story) are also like this.

Yeah the PS3 was pretty open in it's design, allowing installation of Linux, using largely standardized ports for inputs, mouse and keyboard support (for the very, very few applications that supported it, like the built in web browser), and certain games could load custom content, like UT3 which allowed you to load full PC mods from USB, as long as they were within a certain file size due to memory limits.
