Excellent tutorial! Covers every single detail, perfect angles, and incredibly easy to follow along to as long as you pause. It has been a while since I've taken apart one of these phat PS3 consoles, just used this video to clean up and repaste my CECHA01! To anyone skeptical about doing this: Watch the video once all the way through so you know what to expect. It's only 15 minutes, just do it. As long as you pause while you're actually taking everything apart, this is pie.

Tutorial works great, but then I'm freaking out when trying to take the CMOS battery out to get to the motherboard and replace the thermal paste. I don't want to pull the connector off the motherboard. Any thoughts? Also, did you replace the CMOS battery as well? I know Sony pulled back recently on ending PSN support to the PS3, but I wouldn't doubt this is something that happens down the line. I just want to be able to access the PSN store and download games before they decide end PS3 support and I think a non-functioning CMOS battery may prevent me from doing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mr. Mario I recently encountered the 'eraser mod' that claims to significantly cut down on the temperatures of the CPU. People are putting erasers in their console to apply more pressure to the cooling area. Some people point to this video as proof that this mod is even applied by Sony themselves as at 8:51 you can see the plastic cover that they used. Any thoughts on this mod? It seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

Nice vid .but at what temperature and for how long in the oven??
@Blazyng1987 Жыл бұрын
Turn the temperature up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Relax. The oven will not reach this temperature. Take a seat on the floor and watch the thermometer. Once the needle rolls to approximately 460F, turn off the oven an throw open the door. The thermometer will rise a few degrees before it falls. Do not panic. Take a box fan, osculating fan (set to not osculate), or similar, put it on its lowest setting, and place it OUTSIDE THE EDGE OF THE OVEN DOOR TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT, NOT DIRECTLY IN FRONT, WITH THE FAN BLOWING AIR AWAY FROM, I REPEAT, AWAY FROM THE OVEN, AND NOT NOT NOT INTO IT. The idea here is the pull hot air from the face of the oven, without creating any significant disturbance to the motherboard within. This will speed up the cool down, as explained in the theory. Once the board is close to room temp, feel free to remove it. Congratulations! You've re-flowed your PS3.

Thanks so much to the creator of this video. This guide looks perfect. I'm a tech noob, so it was really important for me to be able to see everything clearly, step by step, and for parts to be labeled. I just bought a PS3 fat that overheated and shut down on me before I really got the chance to play anything, so once my thermal paste arrives I plan to pop the console open, clean out dust if I see any, and replace the thermal paste.

This tutorial looks super helpful. I just got a CECHA01 PS3. It looks like it was well taken care of, not a single scratch. I was wondering if you used a CECHA01 as well, I am new to this so I can't tell. I want to change the thermal paste since I don't want to run into any problems. I was also wondering if you recommend changing the fan to a 19 blade fan and changing the battery that it's in the green-looking sleeve thing. I will appreciate any tips!
@XQGaming7 жыл бұрын
I dont remeber the model exactly, but you shouldnt run into any major differences, I would suggest just opening it and replace the thermal past, a bigger fan might help slightly but would make a big difference in cooling. Changing the battery is good idea.

It is REALLY the best step by step teardown and reassemble video. I bought a used PS3 6 months ago and this is my first ever PS3. I noticed the fan was doing crazy noises and it was getting really hot so I found some thermal paste from a friend and started working. It was the first time it was ever taken apart and I could tell cause some stickers were brand new and the screws were very tight. Also pretty dirty inside. After 8 hours I think it paid off.
