PS3 power button and eject button not working.

Found this video--- ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5rPkoyNpN6kZ6s ) where a person has repaired the eject and power button using Aluminum foil. Please go to the official Sony Service center before disassembling your consoles yourself. Taking apart your consoles is risky and voids warranty forever and may be against Sony's terms and conditions.

You can still turn it on with a disc even if there is a disc inside the PS3. Just don't force the disc in, just the tip!

Thank you for sharing this awesome tip with us, Nitman Phoenix!! It seems that the console senses the second disc being inserted even if there's already a disc inside. That would be very helpful to remove the already inserted disc in case of emergency where the PS3 won't turn on at all because of the faulty touch pad.

The solutions are- Use your controller's PS Button to turn it on. Insert disc and it will turn on (Did it once but it's a scary thing to do). Turn off the main power and turn it on after a while. This is due to age and condition of a PS3 I assume. Now, my PS3 asks me date and time on every boot. So, I guess the memory is wrecked and it may die in 2 years.

It you can use eject tho with a disc in it will work IF your eject button works i can use eject but if you have a disc stuck in the lenses and it says it isn't in there it also won't work

this mostly happens when your ps3 is not turnd off the rigth way(turning the power swich or the power goes out) its cind of like a defense that wont let your ps3 jam.after a dew days or hours it starts working

all the problem is dust or sitting the springs of these touch buttons. remove the cover and pull the springs of the buttons and you see it is fixed

That freaked me out so much that I started planning for a new PS3. It also, happened to me for 2 days. Strange. Why would it start working again without reason? o_0 But I'm glad it does work now. At least the power button needs to work because that's what turns it on and that's very important when the PS3 freezes (It's good to touch the power button for 10 or so seconds to force shut down when a game or the XMB freezes. i havent been able to use the buttons for weeks. i took the ps3 apart and where the connections are were rusted and dusty. scratched the rust off and cleaned the dust and now it works perfectly.

I had this problem my eject button only with a ps3 I bought preowned and just fixed this problem a second ago I can confirm that it was because dust and slight rust that had built up around the receivers under the cover. Just take off the top and wipe down the affected receiver with a damp cloth/tissue. If it is just dust then a vacuum and dry cloth will do the trick

Hi Nik :) It started working randomly after 2 days...I hope it continues to do so! It seems like a random problem that happens because of the soldering issues or touch panel sensitivity issues. I guess, there's not much we can do. There are some videos on KZbin that require us to dismember the PS3 and fix/tweak some wires but I'm too afraid to do that D:

Big D If it doesn't work, try connecting your controller with the wire to your PS3 and if it still doesn't work, then maybe it will need servicing from an authorized Sony Service Center.

You are right. it's the Japanese version with O button being Enter/OK instead of X button, and X button for back instead of Triangle button. I still have it and the green light turns on but the video or audio output doesn't get transmitted through the HDMI or AV Out (Red Yellow White)... maybe something with the socket or maybe the HDMI output is broken but can't be reset to AV out due to the start touch screen being faulty as seen here.

I don't have the PS3 remote. I use a separate BD player to play Blu-Rays; so, I never thought of it. I think, if restoring to factory settings, everything gets wiped out but restoring network or video, audio settings may not erase anything except the settings. Restoring the video settings makes the PS3 output the video and audio through analogue Red Yellow and White wires instead of HDMI. Since this PS3 has an insensitive touch button, I couldn't restore the output settings and it doesn't output anything from the HDMI. My Super Slim PS3 doesn't output anything from the HDMI too but since it has an actual button instead of this fancy touch button, I could hard restore it to make it output the video and audio through analogue Red Yellow and White... here's more information about factory reset: ourpastimes.com/what-happens-if-you-reset-your-ps3-12603117.html

Richard Campbell I wanted to keep using this silver PS3 until I eventually get a PS4 but I had to upgrade to a PS3 Super Slim immediately. You should give it to a Sony Service Center and see if they have a solution for it.

***** It's great to know that PS4 controller also works with PS3. My fat PS3's touch screen on the on/off button has been insensitive and doesn't work. Also the controller doesn't seem to have any effect on it. PS3 Fat starts but the screen is blank. Since the output is HDMI and the HDMI port is broken, I would require to touch and hold the power button on my console to reset the visual settings to AV Out, but since I cannot do that, my PS3 Fat turns on but there's no picture! I wish the controller could reset the settings too...

That's a serious issue. Send it to a nearby Sony Service Center and they will give your game back. Check Sony's eSupport- eservice.sony.com/webrma/web/index.do And Google "Sony Service Centers in my city (enter your city's name)"

What model of PS3 do you have? PS3 phat and Slims have touch eject & power buttons while PS3 Super Slim have actual push buttons similar to PS2. My PS3 phat silver has touch eject & power buttons and the touch screen of them has been glitched and do not recognize touches. Making it impossible to reset the video settings by touching and holding the power button (a possible solution to my video problem if the PS3's HDMI port is damaged, yes, my PS3 silver phat has stopped outputting video and audio through HDMI and can't reset it to AV Component because of the power button glitch). You should ask Sony about the eject button too. They might be able to open the button panel and fix the button or the sensors/wires that are damaged. Super Slim eject button has a PS2-like manufacturing error. After a while, the Super slim PS3's eject button occasionally gets 'stuck' and you have to manually operate the disc tray by sliding it to left and right (That's a poor design and I don't think that replacing the Super Slim console can solve that. Every Super Slim seems to be affected by the same issues), but at least, that manual disc tray gives you the full control over your discs while the Slim and phat ones are dependent on the touch functionality of the button and once the disc is inside, there's no way to get it out without disassembling the console. I hope your problems get solved soon :(

KerrDogga Yeah, I had to buy a new PS3 too, because there's no servicing in India, only replacement. But I chose to keep my old PS3, to see if I can fix it myself or if the HDD is of any worth in future. You should send it to the Sony and hopefully, they will sort it out. If not then, getting a new PS3 and then transferring all of your PS3 data using an Ethernet cable to the new PS3 is a good way to keep your stuff. Press the controller's button to turn it on. Connect the USB cable to your controller and the other end to your PS3 and then try pressing the button. It should work :) Contact official Sony Service Center located near you for further assistance.

Hi Darsh! I had the same issue with my power button. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't...if eject isn't working hit triangle on the game in the psn menu and u can eject it there :D

I know what year this video came out an im still going to comment. Basically you hit the buttons too hard and the thin metal spring got bent downward. You got lucky and they moved back on their own just enough to work as they should.

I appreciate the information. I agree with you. The bending must be the reason for it. The power button is still not working so, I can't reset the console's video output settings, so after a fault with HDMI output settings of the PS3, it doesn't show any video or send any audio now. So, I have to reset the video settings to AV Red Yellow White somehow to get it back working. Couldn't do it so just bought a PS3 slim in 2013 but that also got its HDMI output malfunctioning but gladly the power button works due to not being a touch panel.

@@DarshD Funny thing about the PS3, It's not a real touch panel. Its a stick pushing on a metal tab that if you bend the tab very gently upwards, gets it to work. Like an old VCR button As for the HDMI thing? Apparently sony still has issues with those in their PS5 XD

Oh that's like Sony tricking people into thinking that it was a touch panel!! Definitely sounds like a VCR button. I have to try that. If the PS5 also has an HDMI problem later on then that's very disappointing for the owners if it happens outside the warranty. The worst thing is that not all countries have service Center for PlayStation so they just replace the console if within warranty. If outside the warranty, you just have to throw it away even if a fix was possible through a component replacement. I am glad I didn't buy a PS4 and still haven't ordered a PS5 😅

+Blaise Kendall You also have this fat PS3 with touch buttons? I think for me, the touch button has lost its sensitivity and thus, it cannot recognize my touch anymore. So I cannot do a complete reset using the 10 second touch on the PS3. That is just an assumption though. It may be a bigger problem than just the touch screen but I assume that due to the inability to reset my PS3 and the PS3 HDMi port getting damaged, I cannot switch the video output to AV multi out using the complete reset. For you, I think you should contact Sony Service Center and ask them if they can fix it. I could not fix it through service center because in India, PS3s can only be replaced and not serviced. Fixing PS3s through official services like Sony Service Center, Gamestop, etc. is only possible in the US, the UK and other major countries. But you should try asking the nearest Sony Service Center in your city (just Google it or e-mail Sony about your issue). Before that, you may try doing a complete reset using the long touch till it beeps multiple times and see if that works. If your problem is not about display and just the touch buttons, then cleaning the touch button area with a good cotton cloth and wiping the dust may help. The hardware under the touch buttons might also need servicing which can only be done through a proper service Center official or an expert. I hope your issues are solved soon! Good luck :)
