How to manually remove Foreign Objects & Reset the Blu-Ray Drive
Brief Introduction:-
If your PS3 (SLIM) blu-ray drive makes strange noises and is unable to load/eject discs then there maybe some foreign elements stuck in the drive, we need to open up the Blu-ray and analyse and remove the foreign elements manually.

so I am assuming there are 2 issues - Drive gear/assembly is not functioning - Lens issue If there are too many issues, simply purchase a new Blu-Ray drive and carry out PCB replacement. Thats an easier option

Exactly what I needed. Careful the one white arm he plays with can spring out with the spring. Not easy trying to figure out how it is supposed to go back. Excellent video. Fixed our issue!!!!

hello, my issue is that it doesn't take disks in and eject them and don't even spin them.. the two buttonshave sound and light and also the lens rises up a bit when i turn the console on. the 2 little motors inside the drive don't give any sign o movement.. any idea what could be? thx

I know omg way way late for this video but my ps3 slim is making a white sircle around the middle of my disc an when I'm playing a game it makes scratchy sounds and I done took it apart and looked nothing is jam or stink everything is good it keeps making that scratchy sounds an that white ring around the center of my disc. I know this is a super old video so totally understand if you don't check for questions, but would this work for the 2101A model as well? Do you have any other videos on how to reset the gear assembly if that's messed up or is that a lost cause? We put a disk in and it played for a couple seconds but was grinding and whirring and scratched up the back up the disk in a couple circles.I'm wondering if my kid shoved something else in there. Thank you for doing this!

Hello, if you find your disk won't load or eject after this, NOTE: you will need to check your ribbon cable connections to align and push them in all the way and reset the clips. Most likely will happen when putting drive back in it's place in machine. This should correct that issue.

@ONEILLisLOCO1119 Please ensure to check the laser mechanism assembly. Make sure everything is intact and screwed in properly. I know its very easy to say all of this and i understand its very hectic and tedious process however this is the only way i.e thoroughly observe. perhaps watch the video a few times and take a note of each gear piece and then match with your blu-ray drive ? to ensure everything is in place ? If still issues, perhaps replacing with another drive ?

i want to thank you, by removing the gear it didn't reset immediately but i wiggled the arm a little and it reset. i had spent 3 hours on this disc drive issue almost and your video saved me thank you!!!

I dont think there is any fancy name for it just a plastic gear piece that has two positions 1. moved to top when a disc is inserted 2. comes back to default position when a disc is ejected.

@realerik123 If its not accepting disc then there is an issue with your Eject-Feed Mechanism. This will not work unless you reset pretty much all the gears

Great video. Has really helped me to reset my Blu-ray drive. My son has really inserted a weird object (small plastic disk used to stand the suction cup of my GPS). I had to disassemble 3 times in order to find out where was it. Even after removing it, the blu-ray was not working. Probably because a reset was not properly made. This video has really helped me to get it working again.

@alancoty yes thats most likely an issue with your lens. Replace it with new lens and you should be back in business.

Hey man, I just had this same issue the other night. COD froze up, then I unplugged the system and it went through the checking data to ensure it wasn't broken check. After that, it would no longer read the disc and I get that ejecting noise. Let me know if you find anything.

@xAlenaLovex If its not reading disc that means the lens has failed. You need to replace with New Lens.

quick question man and I hope you reply back to me.....I reseted the drive but it still wouldn't read the discs then I put a fat ps3 drive160GB and it wouldn't work either so I replaced the lens from 160GB to the 120GB ps3 slim and it burned the cable the gears and everything move but the lens just wouldn't pop up and make the disc spin does this mean I have to replace only the laser part or the whole Drive? thnx Hope to hear back from you Ive opened my ps3 atleast 20x now -_-

My ps3Slim stopped taking in, or ejecting discs. I took it apart following youtube instructions, and made sure all gears and such were set correctly.. however the problem seems to be that it never recognizes a disc insertion, and therefore never activates the mechanisms to pull the disc in. I can manually push it in/use the screw/gear at the bottom, but once loaded it still wont spin it, and the eject button beeps as though it is empty... any solution would be greatly appreciated.

Eject-Feed mechanism issue Is your Blu-ray PCB functional ? Do you have a spare Blu-Ray drive ?

But my when I try to put the disk it, it sounds like it wants to lad, but the ps3 will not pull the disk in. It pushes the dick back out. And when i force it in, i press eject but the disk wont come out. Help please

I have a ps3 120gb slim. Problem is when i put in a disc, it takes it in but doesn't play it and it wont eject. The blue light above the arrow doesn't come on even though a disc is in. I then reset the drive like the video says and the cycle starts all over again. Please help.

Hey, today I received my ps3 drive replacement. The two lens that read the discs not the whole thing. But I installed it and it will not read the blue rays like before only DVD and I'm sure it's no the drive. Can it be the tracks? As you said that the lens gets farther and closer to the disc.

Please help!!! The little metal spring came off of the white clip and I dont know how to put it back on. Also I did the reset but the white clip did not got to the bottom instead it lets me move it up and down freely. Is this a result of the metal spring missing? Can you help me with this?

I had a disc in that was stuck to the spinner inside. Apparently it had one of those anti piracy stickers around the hole of the DVD. Suffice to say you just saved me a bundle and thank you very much.

Yep is was accepting discs before and ejecting them with no problem. My ps3 works fine but if I play a game for an hour or so the disc begins to spin violently and it stops reading the game.

So i fixed the part where i couldn't put disks in because it was getting blocked by the white thing; however, it still doesn't read any disks. It makes the eject sound but doesn't actually eject. it was working fine until i bought the Last of Us and it would not read it, so i opened it up and from there on it stopped reading disks. Could it have been that i just moved something and it's not actually permanently damaged? PLEASE HELP!

Did you make sure both ends of the cable were securely clamped into the clips? He shows it at 6:00 in. I had to straighten mine out for the one he doesn't show in the video.

Okay, so I did everything as instructed, but now I cannot get the disc to eject. It will feed into the bluray drive, but after about 10 seconds there is the eject sound with no actual ejecting, and the eject button DOES NOT EJECT the disc. Please advise.

turn off hold down eject and it should force eject. if not you should open it back up and look at the inside closely. i was trying to fix my dads and i haven't tested it yet but 1 of the white arms that goes in the middle was stuck. you probably messed something up and now the feeder isn't working. what you hear is the motor that helps move the disk but it might not be set right causing it to not move anything.

first guess is look at the plugs you undid. i had a hard time getting the ribbon into the blu-ray reader to lock in place(5:55 that end he locks). it kept getting pushed out by the lock instead. if the ribbon is not in all the way it will cause problems!

I got a quiestion, today when i turned on my 160g ps3 console, it began to make a noise like when you inser a disc, but i wasn´t inserting any disc neither had any disc inside. I reset pressing 5 seconds the ejection button, but every time I turn it on makes the same noise, but after that, you can insert any disc and it reads any disc with no problem at all. Do you have any idea, what can be?

Thank You for sharing this great info! Our two year old managed to stick 6 discs, one nickel, two pennies and a flattened piece of play dough into our PS3 and we couldn't get everything out without taking it apart and then had to reset the drive. Your video is easy to follow. Lesson learned and the PS3 is now only plugged in when we are playing or watching a Blu Ray.
