The sad part is, most people forced it open and I noticed it broke the tray over time where it doesn't fully close all the time. You should always let the mechanism do it's job and for force things to open

This can be fixed fairly easily, forcing it open wears out a small gear like plastic part inside the mechanism, pop it open and either replace that part or if it’s still operable, replacing the spring with a tighter one will be a good temporary fix

If you keep opening the tray with your hand, you'll wear down the locking clip, and it'll eventually stop closing all the way. You're SUPPOSED to press the button to release the clip.

funny that this popped up in my recommendation since I just got a ps3 super slim from a friend covered in sand. my brother took it apart since I have no idea how to take one apart. We look into it and the RSX chip is basically still silver but with a light blue tint *meaning very little overheating and burning* then the thermal paste on the gpu was still paste. This told us that it had very low run time and I basically got a new ps3 super slim for free.
