In this video I show you how to change the old thermal paste and pads located in your Playstation 4 Pro. The stock ones are very bad quality and cause a lot of heating issues. Replacing them keeps the system cool and improves overall performance.

And my system was repeatedly cleaned out so I knew it wasn’t dust making the fan go crazy! Thanks for taking time to make this. Personally I would edit this video and have small arrows or something showing people where to put the first set of pads. @@lightskinantics4200 it's hard to say, because we don't see temps on apu.... But lets take cpu from pc for example... If you have pc with watercooling, the air coming from the radiators is much hotter then air coming from a cheap or stock air cooler, due to better heat dissipation... but that doesn't mean that cpu with watercooling is running hotter, it's the opposite.. Still a very useful video in 2023! here are some pointers for anyone who wants to do this. For starters you can just get away with new Thermal Paste! the factory thermal paste that is on almost anything, be it a PS4 Pro or a AIO Cooler are just meh lol. With wear and tear over time, it loses it's effect with the amount of heat a PS4 Pro produces. For reference my thermal paste was barely even on the APU when I disassembled my PS4 Pro!! Tip 1: Start by disassembling the Power Supply first, this way you won't rip it off the motherboard!, if you disassemble the Power Supply and it still does not want to come out, you can keep everything unscrewed in the power supply area and start undoing the motherboard, I found that when I had both the motherboard and PSU unscrewed, the PSU easily came out on its own lol. Tip 2: Organize all the screws neatly somewhere you will not lose them! Tip 3: Take your time!, anyone can do this, even you that is reading this. It is tedious and will take time but will be worth it. Tip 4: Make sure to take photos to remember where what is connected!, this will help you out a ton!! Finally when I took apart the PS4 Pro to clean it and service the thermal Paste, it was surprisingly clean and I was shocked lol. I definitely recommend replacing the thermal paste as maintenance, BTW for anyone wondering, I used Noctua thermal paste!, good stuff!!

Good video. I know some other KZbinrs have pointed this out but just before 5:00 make sure you've taken out all of the T8 screws on the metal bracket on the other side of the PS4 before removing the PSU....I slightly cracked the plastic cover that shields the PSU until I realised there were two T8 screws which needed to be removed! Also, I found the PSU connector cable virtually impossible to remove, so I left it connected. It's a bit of a pain in the arse when leaving the PSU connected but it is doable One thing I discovered was after applying the thermal paste (pea sized) the PS4 fans were louder than ever. This is the first time I've ever had this issue when applying thermal paste (I've applied it to many CPUs) - so I took the PS4 apart, applied more paste and spread it over the APU. The PS4 is now as quiet as a mouse.

Hi. Please check the video at 7:00. That are not memory modules. In fact, those are chokes. They do not require cooling on the ps4 pro. It's the vrm's that need it(the little black chips a few milimeters above. So you have put the thermal pads on the wrong place. It may fry your ps4 pro. The thermal paste usually is to put on top of the apu and not the heatsink. But the way you did it works also.

Okay guys bear with me through this comment as I am excited haha. So I have had a pro now for a few years and it has always sounded like a space X rocket, I have tried thermal pads, fan maintenance, too quality thermal paste and nothing worked. I have taken apart my pro 16 times to analyze how I could resolve the over heating and loud fan. Step 1: Okay if you look on the back of your pro right above the connector ports there is a detachable center piece with vents and that section is where the hot air is flowing through the power supply and out. I removed this. Step 2: if you take of the top shell of your pro and look in the back you will wee more Vent, Now after much testing I realised that with these vents my pro is forcing hot air up into those vents and back into the pro so I put masking tape across the top of these vents and put the shell back on. Results: I played Assassins creed odyssey for 5 hours straight, Then death stranding, then ghost recon breakpoint and Each time the console Never over heated AND the fan never kicked into overdrive. Honestly it never even got loud enough to hear.

Mistah Opinionatah Hey, I’m looking at my pro right now, so you’re saying you literally just taped up that back vent above the ports entirely? I’ve been wanting to fix the fan problem for a while but didn’t want to mess with any thermal paste and stuff really. Tried cleaning the fan, but it doesn’t help a bit.
@HairlessApesGaming
@HairlessApesGaming 4 жыл бұрын
@@christophersorensen9580 so when you are looking at the back of your pro you see the center piece between the top and bottom? I took that centerpiece completely off the back. Its just a strip of plastic with fan vent slots in it right above your plugin ports, just pull that thing right off by the corners. -You have to pry hard enough to break the little plastic holders on that strip but you wont even notice its gone. Now the tapping part. If you pull off the top cover of your pro and just look at the top back section you will see more vent slots. Those are the vents you will tape over.

did mine. use credible thermal paste. original artic mx 4 i use. dont give a bulk paste on procie. just a drop then smir it equally on the surface.add more if not enough.until all surface covered in thin layer. it really effect the fan noise. u knowmust change thermal if u play apex legends .just stay on main screen then your fan goes crazy. like jumbo jet. after i change the thermal paste the fan noticeable quiter. it really works

What size thermal pads did you use? If you use too thick or too thin thermal pads, the memory won't activate as they respond to too much or too little pressure. If all else, check that every single cable is connected, including that the PSU cable is pressed all the way in.

For those wondering just like I did " It really works ? Like REALLY ? " the answer is YES. I'm a french gamer, I tried everything, even changing thermal paste, cleaning everything in the pro, everytime the same god damn noise. I couldn't enjoy games such as Detroit Become Human, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, even games with lower graphics such as Apex Legends, Rocket League, etc. I couldn't find anything to solve this problem so I made a research in english, and inFound this video. I bought this grizzly paste, and the result is crazy : Silence. Real silence. I played Detroit for an hour, Assassin's creed for almost two hours, the ps4 was sooooo silent ! So yes, it really works and I thank you very much ! Really !

If you put too much thermal paste on a PC you shouldn't have too many issues as the pressure of the cooler will displace excess paste onto the motherboard. I don't believe it's very different with a console so you don't have much to worry about. As for the thermal pads, I would recommend you change them, although I don't have any experience working with thermal pads. hope this helps.

These chips also have a hand in controlling the fan speed, and cooling them will make the fans peed even lower (or so I hope)

I tried this out today with a 1$ thermal paste (made in China) that I found in a local electric store. I didn't even have the thermal pads so I still use the old ones found inside my PS4 Pro (but I did clean the dust off the pads). It took me a while to complete the whole thing because I kept forgetting things like putting the cables back on, wrong screws placement, etc. I even cut a straw in half to clean balls of dust out from my heat sink's grills. My whole system was filled with dust before now it's all clean. So the result is, the jet engine is gone and my PS4 is a lot quieter (tested out with COD: War Zone). The thing is that though, there is one screw left after I'd assembled the whole thing and can't be bothered figuring out where I had missed it :p

Would a 1g of the paste be enough for the PS4 pro? I'm asking as I'm in Australia and it's very hard to find this stuff What other brands would you recommend?
@izhanshafiq324
@izhanshafiq324 4 жыл бұрын
1g should be enough for 3-6 or more applications. I've had the same one and I used it to change thermal paste on a couple of Laptop's, my PS4 and two more PS4's. thermal grizzly kryonaut is the best one in the market. I've seen many benchmarks. The other one that had like 1C° more temperature than kryonaut. Noctua NT-H1. It's pretty good too. There's an NT-H2 as well, idk how it performs. In my experience, these two are the best thermal pastes in the market but I'd prefer kryonaut over any other paste.

Got the pads...now age old questiln, was a "pea" size ammount of paste in the center of the dye enough? I keep reading the copper plate on the ps4 pro isnt entirely flat, not sure what difference this makes.....also ordered some rubber feet to install under the ps4 to dampen out the disc drive vibration and see if a gap underneath the console also helps a little with air getting round it.
