It's amazing how good it looks even on the PS4. Keep in mind that the game is running on a 2013 console! Mind you, the PS5 version is outstanding, the game is very nice aesthetically and also runs very well, very fluent, stable, very good optimization from Santa Monica as always.

Been playing Gow on ps5 and can say performance mode is way to go there is basically no graphic difference but significant frame boost

i played the game with fidelity but HFR + VRR it has a big difference with an oled 4k, and +40 fps is pretty good to me

Playing it on ps5 on oled lgc1. There you can see a clear difference between performance and quality mode. I play it on quality with 40+ fps. The graphic Is breathtaking on quality mode. Sometimes i stop playing and just enjoy the image especially in asgard.

If I wasn't used to playing 60fps games on PC this past year, I would have bought it on the PS4. I have been playing 30fps and low frame rate games my whole life, but it's really hard going back to them once you're used to something superior.

It's crazy how good it looks for a console from 2013. Me personally, owning a jailbroken PS4 and having tested and played PC games on it through Linux and seeing how poorly games and their PC counterparts run on it really shows how good console optimization truly is. A PC port of GOW Ragnarok running on PS4 thru Linux on the same hardware would run abysmally, not even reaching 20 fps at 360p resolution, yet somehow on the same hardware they made it look and run beautifully.

Not sure what the point is here. I own both a High End desktop and a PS5. I usually prefer PC, unless a port takes too long. I'm trying to understand if you're critiquing PC backend infrastructure for gaming, or just stating the lack of performance for using a 1: Jail Broken PS4 2: Linux (which will not be as stable as playing on windows but it does work well 3: Not actually playing on a PC? There are many factors why a PC game won't perform well on a jail broken, linux os ps4 vs, a mid to high end(hell even if budget) PC built with gaming in mind will do good. Depending on SPECs, being the higher end will always be better. I'm not too sure what performance you're actually expecting off of proprietary hardware from sony, but this is not a proper platform or comparison to a legitimate rig built for gaming. You're not supposed to jail brake or run pc games on a ps4 period. That's why performance is lacking; hence, why we still don't receive immediate ports from consoles. Unless dev themselves optimize it for both PC and consoles on release. I can guarantee, once Ragnarok comes out for PC, i can run 100 plus frames, with all settings on max with little to no hiccups vs the compromise of 30 fps, 40fps with high frame mode, or the lack of vrr for 1440p. PS4 is not a bad console but this statement is flawed imo. Nothing wrong as a hobby or experiment though. Consoles : Hardware dedicated to closed operating System with different infrastructure specifically for gaming. PC: Potentially can go for similar hardware for similar performance but with greater functionality. As a result, PC will not dedicate it's resources for just gaming as a console would. Performance may lag behind but there is no way to tell as there is no APU from the PS4 that can be sold or run legitimately as a PC.

@@nothere4450 I wasn't comparing a jailbroken PS4 to a mid range PC, but was instead comparing the performance on the same exact hardware. I was stating that if a port of GOW Ragnarok came out for PC, and you made a comparison of the two, (One running the native PS4 version of the game and the other the PC version of the game running on PS4 through Linux), the console version would run great and the PC version would run poorly even at the lowest settings and resolution, because of console optimization, even though it is running on the same exact hardware. Which btw Linux on PS4 has all the right drivers for the graphics. As for performance, games on Linux run better than on Windows due to Linux's lightweight operating system. Take the Steam Deck for example, games run better on it through Linux than they would if Windows was installed on it.

@@crustjunkie on the linux part, if you dont have an over kill system I can see how a lightweight operating system is beneficial. But say you have a 3070, 32gbs of ram, and an ssd with 5 plus read and write. WIndows or linux wont really matter in terms of dedicating resources. However, I dont remember the details exactly but isnt linux steam still ongoing in terms of performance due to wineport? I would have to look into the driver support for ps4, but I doubt they aren't work arounds. As that APU is not officially released to purchase other than inside a ps4. There's nothing you can get on the market that represents as its identical, just similar performance. But then thos gpus, motherboards, rams etc would be optimized for PC. Whats a ps4 similar to? 1000 series, 16gbs ram, cpu?, hdd.

@@ryanryan4223 optimization varies on Dev, not on the console or PC hardware itself. Today's mid range pc would probably kill ps4, the PS5 is equivalent to a 2070, which is two tiers lower and two generations behind.

I have a PS4 Darth Vader Edition and I just finished GoW Ragnarok, every second was amazing! I do have a HDR monitor so having it on makes a big and nice difference. Either way, it's impressive to see a console from 2013 holding up to a game from 2022. I am on a mission to complete every quest on GoWR :D Wish me luck

Keep in mind the game was made for ps4, they enhanced it a bit with the ps5 power. Thusly the loading screens going between the realms it was designed for PS4 and not with the PS5 with the super fast SSD in mind

Would've loved to see, the most beautiful scene in the game IMO, when Atreus first lands in Asgard and you start walking around the small cliff where you can see far into the distance over the marsh and mini waterfalls as a comparison. And wow it's crazy how performance mode is almost always better than quality mode in any game. There is practically no difference that I can recall in terms of fidelity, but the drop off in FPS is abysmal.

I switched from ps4 to ps5 while in the middle of my playthrough, the BIGGEST shock was the loading times. Oh my god it felt like breathing again, went from several minutes each death to 3 SECONDS. incredible.

Fidelity mode on the PS5 is pretty pointless in this case, but I always appreciate the option. No notable improvement to in game graphics, just native resolution bump. High performance mode can target up to 80-90fps unlocked and run between 2k-4k. 2k/1440p is a solid base, you will notice 29-30FPS/60+FPS difference immediately, you'd be hard-pressed to notice the resolution difference while playing the game. If devs played with ray tracing and adding more life to the world like rachet and Clank does it might be worth the frame drop. PS4 not being able to even hold 30fps stinks, but the game still looks great. Visually not a huge downgrade.. load times suck.

Actually PS5 doesn't support 1440p on a 4K display, it goes down to 1080p. Unless they've updated the system.

Every side by side comparison shows the difference with 1080p in performance mode. God of war is no different..The resolution in performance mode is a lot superior to 1080p.

I'm not a very big gamer myself, and I prefer to occasionally pay attention to the graphic splendor of a game, its ambience and music. I have a PS5 and a 4K HDR OLED TV, and I basically always play on ultra settings. In the case of Ragnarök I sometimes turn on HFR.

I was going to buy the PlayStation 5 until I realized a lot of the new titles are also on PlayStation 4…. So what I did is spent money on a new SSD 1tb that cost me $40 replaced the hd and as well as replace the thermal paste and thermal pads in it. And it’s working faster and quieter than ever before. So I’m going to hold on to my PlayStation 4 for a bit longer

For PS5, quality mode with high framerate mode at 1440p is the way to play. Game stays at a consistent 40-45, saw a total of 3 dips and 1 crash in my first playthrough. Regardless though, this thing on a base PS4 is still a good time, even much better if you have a SSD installed and have your PS4 optimized (ifykyk)

@@proluk1889 idk man I played this on my 60hz 4k tv on performance mode and it looked and played great besides a few fps dips in certain areas. I plugged into my 165hz 1440p monitor and turned on high performance with high refresh and for some reason it felt like less fps with of course worse resolution. Idk if it's just feels that way because of the refresh rate or not

So, the comparison is against PS4, 1080,30FPS to the PS5, 4K,, etc. Running it on my PS4 Pro, which I installed an internal solid state drive And removed the HDD running HDR 2160, 60FPS, and there’s hardly any difference with the naked eye, and the load time is pretty darn close to PS5.

@@damarisluca4763 No sir. The PS4 Pro can support 60FPS. And in the settings as is, can support 3840x2160. There may be some frame rate drop off at times when using the 3840x2160, but it’s there. I will say I’m not getting 60FPS 100% of the time, and it depends on the game as well. The PS4 slim is only capable of 30 FPS, I think. So the only computer that’s in the case, is the one that came in it mate! 😉

The PS4 version is surprisingly fantastic considering the hardware is ~9 year old now. Aside from the capped 30FPS and differences in shadow depth, it could honestly pass as PC medium/high settings.

yeah, God of War 2018 demands 6gb vram for ultra 1080p and 4gb for high 1080p so I think Ragnarok will demand 8gb vram for ultra 1080p, and about 6gb for high 1080p, mid range PCs will be able to run it, if the game is optimized for PC when it releases, if it's running on a ps4 there is no excuse it shouldn't run on mid range pc's

@@johnhakim7037 GOW Ragnarok to me looks the same as GOW 2018 it just has more vibrance to it so if it somehow runs much worse than its 2018 counterpart when it comes to PC that would mean they just did a lazy port. Also when it releases on PC I hope they fix that weird low GPU usage issue it has in lake of nine and other parts where there are massive performance drops.

Actually it's a very nice notice cause of your console are still able to increase fan speed to deal with the game graphics. You should be concerned if the fan is running slow.

Its just got me concern since I played this console alot and I buy this PS4 2 days after its release... I am surprised its was holding its still own with this current games along side its much higher spec younger brother PS5...!!! I remember being a bit disappointed that this wasn’t going to be a PS5 exclusive, but now after playing it, I am glad all those with a PS4 get to enjoy this game. That being said, some of the level design is clearly made to cater for PS4 (obviously), being quite an impatient person, I dislike the slow going through gaps or the slow rides on lifts and trains. It’s not that bad, though. Amazing how good it looks and how well it runs on PS4, though.

Y en las partes de transiciones aveces rellenan con diálogos para ir entendiendo la historia y pueden estirarse hasta 10 15 seg esas partes a propósito, pero cuando no hay diálogos carga en 3 4 seg.

Very surprising that God Of War Ragnarok on PS4 despite being 10 year old console now, its still AMAZING. The loading times unsurprisingly favoured the PS5 and the game size on PS4 is a little more than PS5. (107GB on PS4 vs 84.3GB on PS5).

It takes up less space on the PS5 because they use the Kraken hardware decompression technique. PS4 uses zlib to compress game textures, but it is not as efficient as Kraken. The content is the same!

While the game looks really REALLY good on the PS4 considering it's almost a decade old now whenever you're in a fight with a lot of enemies (especially the Einherjar) it drops to like 15 fps and is quite unplayable which has made me die many times, but 90% of the time it's constant 30 fps and it doesn't drop in boss fights or important moments which is all that matters tbh.

You probably have too much space used on your internal HDD causing it to slow down. Optimize your ps4 (search KZbin, mad easy) clean the fans and heat sinks and add new thermal paste with a SSD and you will see a major performance increase. I'm talking night and day

I had some frame drops while removing an asgard remnant in midgard, but that's the only occurence i've seen and it wasn't so bad, dropped to probably low to mid 2x fps. I also haven't cleaned my ps4 since my dad bought it lol

@@vinhnguyen-o5z Yeah my PS4 was filled with 6 years worth of dust lmfao, but the game runs fine and looks incredibly for PS4 standards. The drops only happen once in like 100 fights.

Playing it on ps5 on oled lgc1. There you can see a clear difference between performance and quality mode. I play it on quality with 40+ fps. The graphic Is breathtaking on quality mode. Sometimes i stop playing and just enjoy the view.

the ps4 one looks amazing, i own one myself and I finished the game recently, i had this issue in which my ps4 would freeze and right before freezing it would lose almost all audio and i would not be able to play it properly, i think its an issue with the hard disk, now it works cuz its probably used to running the game, so, i love this franchise and this is the best game i have played in my time of playing games.

Well if you compare the ps4 version to the ps5 version SIDE BY SIDE then u can clearly see the difference but while playing, apart from the massive framerate difference, its not that noticeable

I think the ps5 was to early to replace ps4. Really guys think: Ps5 stock its hard to find one ps5. All next gen games also going to last gen bcs money. Ps4 still have what it takes to run good games with awesome graphics... For example RE 4 remake will also be on ps4, initially re4 was only ps5, but they thought (hmm money and stocks).

It depends most of all if you have a tv with the 4k support, since ps4 slim runs only 1080p. It has huge fps drops in most of AAA titles though, even in 1080p and the best you can count on is 25-30 fps. So if you can get you ps5 that’s the best option. At least change to ps4 pro. It still runs great, the only con is, that it’s incredibly loud.

The game doesn't have frame pacing issues like shown in the graph. The game is not recorded properly by you. U should have a lossless capture card to see the actual framerates

Actually no it runs at both 4K 60 and 4K 30, I mean an occasionally drop with dynamic resolution is no big deal. Best looking game I've ever seen, next to Uncharted 4/Legacy. Nothing matches them. Horizon FW isn't too shabby either.
