PS4 with 3 slow beeps? Can I fix it? I don't know what was wrong with this PS4 | UK eBay Reseller

This PlayStation 4 has 3 slow beeps when you plug it in and doesn't turn on. I bought this PS4 from a car boot sale and was told it was just overheating and shutting down. When I plugged it in it would not turn on and do 3 slow beeps. Then when I opened it to inspect it i found it also had liquid damage as well as being full of dust. If you know what the 3 slow beeps are please let me know in the comments below. This PS4 had a mind of it's own.

If the console gives you three slow beeps, it means the console os "overheating". I've seen that you have to create a physical pressure from the shield clamp to the APU (main chip). One of good ideas is to use the X clamp from Xbox

Well I know it was overheating before I bought it so maybe that and clearing the CMOS is what got it running again.

Thanks for this very interesting video. Something that I use to clean pins like the power supply etc is a dremel with a wire brush head. I wouldn't be putting polish on them personally as I think you are only leaving polish residue behind.

I did clean the pins off with IPA after but I know what you mean. I'll have to get my Dremel out next time.

Two areas to explore: 1 Failing Hard Drive, connect to PC run diag or full format to restore functionality else replacing with a better drive. 2 CMOS battery / SRAM Chip - Cutting power to that SRAM chip by removing the CMOS battery forces the contents of the chip to zero out. All of the volatile parameters are lost. This forces the firmware to start over from the beginning and do everything the long way without taking any shortcuts or making any assumptions during power on self test. Consider investigating if date/time wrong - By removing and replacing the battery, you’ll erase the CMOS, forcing a reset.

Cleaning it up to max, reputting nice thermal paste, and Upgrading the HDD into a SSD would fix 80/90% of the problems. Only thing is : corrosion and damaged PCB

I was also thinking of cleaning up the corrosion on the solder joints with a bit of reflowing.

There come a drop of what ever sticky stuff that is in some where that it shouldn't and its doing random connections or heat transfer causing the pcb to make a connection it shouldn't. Take it all apart and in to a IPA bath, redo the paste and it should be fixed. The 3 beep instant on power on is either if the CPU goes from 20 to 45 in half a second and it thinks its completely without cooling and its logged overheating shutdown on its last boot up, or if the fan is hard locked refusing to turn at all that'll some times to it too.

The fan was spinning ok when I cleaned it and was spinning ok when it was working. It was an overheating console before so maybe that was in its memory and removing the CMOS battery to reset it and installing a new one might help. But yes another good deep clean with IPA maybe and reflow some of the corroded solder.

Mine was the APU bracket. Wasn’t tight enough

That sounds like the solder balls could have some micro cracks in them. By tightening the clamp you have compressed the balls. If it ever goes again then it will probably need the APU reflowing. Let's hope it's not that though and you get many more years of use from it. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍

I have same blue light isue and send it in two place for fix they didnt fix it say u its apu I was curisous did usb give power and its gone to white light now its working with the fan kik in high strayt away and some time power of fine some times beep 3 times qnd want power of i power it.off manualy did you find out enithing else on it i think its hard drive little bugie becouse its slowing down but that can be becouse straight overheating

Sounds like the APU is over heating. Has it got new thermal paste. The other problem could be hard disc.

I will see for termal paste and pads. I bought mx6 and will bye pads today and do service. I will post a video of strange behaviour when it's boting in sistem It has blue light and its in dash board without needing to conect controler i am hew in this i dont know if they have some fast booting on dashbboard. Do you sell replacement board?
