You're the first person to address 3D playable function. I have many 3D disc that I use with the PS4 via PSVR so a 3D TV is not required. Knowing the PS5 doesn't support 3D functionality sucks. All that is required would be a software update from Sony....

That is correct. At first my Ps4 couldn't play 3D movies, but after a firmware update it was able to. So as you say, there is a possibility that a firmware update might come to Ps5 as well.

Yep you’re right. I was shocked when my PS4 couldn’t play 3d Blu-ray or even have the art of the movie show up like Ps3 but the update changed all that.

My Ps3 and Ps4 both has no issues playing 3D Blu-ray content ,, its a software support issue on the ps5 as the system hardware can easily support this content as well, users need to make this very clear to Sony that they want this feature , 3D bluray disks store there stereoscopic content in a special file format that contains both the (primary) left and right eye frames this requires the player "recognize" this data format if it does not . you get the playback not supported on this device message,,

3D not supported on PS5 for the VR2 capabilities. I believe 3D is supported on the Xbox but you would need to downgrade from 4k. 3D only supported 720p side-by-side and 1080p 3D signal mode. So it’s not working as you have your resolution too high.

Glad I kept the Xbox One X that I won for free from Taco Bell even though I have the new Series X. I use a 4K BenQ projector and 150" screen that supports 3D in 1080p mode and over 500 3D movies. At least old reliable still works! Boooo Microsoft! It would have been so easy to add it to the Series X. You big dummies!

You might need to just run auto visual settings setup on the settings screen so the system can properly detect the TV and you will be asked to set the screen size for 3d if it works. You'll get the same error on a system setup that hasn't ran automatic visual settings on a PS3 too.

At the start PS4 didn't have 3D but then an upgrade firmware patched it. Here's hoping... Otherwise hold on to the PS4 don't sell it.

This is why i use the Sony x700 also .... i use the lg cx9 55" and also the JVC DLA-N5 on 100" cinema screen. In thr x700 you will find an option to aktivate 3D Mode also when display setting ist set to 4k output.

Your conclusions are hopfully wrong: "they will not give you everything because they have uhd bluray player to sell" is just not true historically. Ps3 had a fully capable blu ray player it was a big selling point that it oudid many stand-alone players. And to be honest the 4k uhd players that have been on sale are overpriced rubbish. That sony one you have the 800x doesnt do dolby vision. Lg970 one I have had to be updated for dolby vision and has such poor build quality it makes discs sound like a fighter plane taking off and has the trashiest netflix app that wont output atmos and also likes to distractingly tell you it has found wifi while you are watching a disc. Now it seems that the PS5 wont give atmos output either (in netflix)? We need the next gen consoles to sort out uhd before it is killed by streaming services.

Thanks for taking the time to help sort this 4K Blue Ray stuff out. Personally, I'm not at all surprised and your point regarding the market makes a lot of sense. The new consoles are great and all but realistically compromises had to be made to be able to offer so much for so relatively little invested. I mean just think for a moment how much you are getting for just $400 - $500 bucks... Bottom line is, if you want the BEST POSSIBLE 4K Blue Ray experience you still need a 4K Blue Ray player.

If you can't get this tv; you can always find the 2013 Panasonic Plasma ST, VT or ZT TV's Just as good black levels and cheaper on the second-hand market. Just 1080p if you are willing to deal.

Loss of blu-ray player sales. Yeah maybe that’s a reason for missing features. But why is the Xbox Series X missing features? Microsoft blu-ray players coming soon? I think Sony would want people to buy $500 blu-ray players. They might play games or use their media store. There are some problems with the blu-ray players. I just think most blu-ray players come with a UI that’s so ugly that it makes the entire experience feel cheap. PS5 UI looks really great. The blu-ray player remotes are also really ugly. Using PS5 controller works, but I don’t like that either. Can buy ps5 media remote, but I don’t think white is a good colour for remotes. You can buy controllers for other blu-ray players so that’s not really fair. Sony players must manually turn on Dolby Vision. Annoying. Maybe this would apply to PS5 even if it could play Vision. I don’t know if all of this gets better with increased price, but I’m not going to spend more than $250 on a blu-ray player. I understand some people don’t really mind the prices but I do. With PS5 it would cost more than $250, but it would be for gaming too. Actually makes it a $250 gaming console for me. A blu-ray player should last 15+ years. My PS3 still works great! Even giving Dolby Atmos on some titles. Probably going to the cabin next. Lack of 4K and HDR is the reason for me wanting to upgrade. Owning 30 4K blu-rays also really makes me want to get a player I like as fast as possible. When do you want to upgrade from 4K HDR? I think 8K is a small reason to upgrade. 4K is more than good enough for a 100in tv in my living room. Would need to sit very close for 8K. I think we might get there, but there is not a big reason to upgrade. IMAX enhanced uses HDR10+ and DTS:X. Maybe some improved upscaling technology or something comes. More bineural audio formats come with blu-rays. Who knows. But these players will still be great for 100+ years of movies. Yeah, the only issue I have with new consoles is the lack of HDR with dynamic metadata. That just sucks. Why is this missing? $3 license fee? Hopefully they let us buy that license in store or something. So for the consoles. Is the spinning loud? Errors while playing? Picture quality good compared to other players? Other issues than 3D and HDR with dynamic metadata?
