It's very easy to justify £1000 on a device that replaces a £500 camera, a £200 gaming handheld, your £100 satnav, your wallet, maybe even your keys, your TV remote and is your emergency communication device. The PS5 Pro is a game console, aka a toy, and is non-essential in anyway. It's a very different proposition spending big bucks for a console.

Then either a 12GB 4070 or a 16GB 7800XT from the used market can be had (with warranty) £400 for the 7800XT and £450 for the 4070. Thats £845 max for the whole system, once you factor in the blurray drive and vertical stand AND online subscription you are looking at near £1000+ for the PS5 Pro. This PC I listed can do so much more than a PS5 Pro, it will have better overall performance easily driving 1440p 100-200fps gaming using DLSS or FSR or 60fps 4K using DLSS or FSR. You can stream using proper software too not that BS that Sony gives you.

Yes, actually about half of the PS4 users didn't upgrade yet to the PS5. At least that is what I've been told. Sony should have already picked up on this, especially when so many people spoke up against closing the PS3 store. That most are about the gameplay anyway. On top of that, the lot of PS5 games were also released on the PS4; next to a whole bunch of remakes/ remasters. No reason to let this sting more. Get well soon!

Consoles have never been a value proposition. It is like drugs, they get you with the cheap box and they pound your arse with game prices. PC is the other way around. The only exception is used games. The improvement is not marginal. 40% performance increase + AI upscaling could get your 4k30 to 4k60. But the price of both PS5 are too high and if you add up similar PC components you can see how bad both consoles are priced.

Also, considering that GTA VI will only be released for consoles, using the base PS5 still makes sense.

But the price is so ridiculous, even I as a PlayStation fan might turn away from this idea. Even more so to think that you must pay so much money just to play at double the frames. Rather play PlayStation games on your base PS5 day one and later on your Pc with better graphics and performance anyway. Toss the money aside and upgrade your PC in the future would probably be way better in your situation imo.

The price for mid generation for $800 is a MASSIVE concern. The PS4 went down & the PS5 is going UP. The PS4 Pro came in at $400 & the console. The starting for the PS5 price is $500 & this jumps up nearly $300. My concern is the cost of the PS6. I feel like this is pushing me to just trade all my consoles towards a gaming PC. If it follows this pattern we could be looking at an $800 or even $900 console, I’m out of the console market.

@@--waffle- But hardly anything is warranting this level of inflation for many of these businesses. Guitar manufacturers are doing the same thing, the ones that can get away with it at least. Thankfully there's enough competition to keep product in everyday consumers hands. And it's not that they're paying more for parts, shipping, labor, etc. they just have their own reasons to inflate that price whether it be ego or simple greed. Like walmart recently dropping prices on 90% of their products by 20%, they didn't just magically get uninflated, they just realized the scheme was over. Plenty of industries are having to go through this realization after the last few years of disgusting price gouging from nearly any and everyone. It's the reason music gear prices are plummeting all around the world rn. As it goes for consoles I can't see myself looking at them for a few generations after how bad this one was. ​@--waffle- Bro, we're 4 years in and they can't drop the regular PS5 models down by $100. Then they have the nerves to ask for a $700 Pro model with no disc drive. On top of refusing to give us a road map of their first party titles coming in the next 2 years. This isn't about inflation anymore. This is 2006 Sony fully revealing themselves again being flat out arrogant and greedy. The PS5 Pro price is just them testing out how much they can get away with PS6 launch prices in a few years.

In Australia that $699 USD equals $1,052 AUD. Mind you that’s basically just a straight conversion, they’ll almost certainly price it slightly higher than that. Absolute madness for a small graphics bump and no disc drive or vertical stand 😂 I get it’s an enthusiast console but even still that’s crazy!

PS6 will be at least $700 at launch without a disc drive if the PS5 Pro is launching at $700.

@@Nikedopeboy I mean there definitely will be upgrades with the PS6. It just depends on how significant they are and what games from PlayStation and other publishers will be available at that time. If there aren’t enough reasons to buy the PS6 I can see a lot of people not getting it right away especially if it comes with a hefty price tag.

Id pay $1,000 for an all in one PS1-PS2-PS3-PS4-PS5 Pro console, most people would. Price is nothing. Value is everything.

Same but only if they get the cooling right and no defective chips like the launch PS3 so it could last me a lifetime. I don't even care about upscalling. Then yeah, absolutely I'd pay top for an all in one fully backwards compatible machine with no strings attached - CD, DVD, Bluray and 4K Bluray support too. As a bonus, a Dualsense with pressure sensitive face buttons for the couple of PS2 games that might need it.

Switched to Pc in 2019 and never going back to consoles, The sheer freedom and versatility the Pc platform offers is just too good to ignore

same had 600 games on the PS4. Brought a PC for a 1000, get 60FPS+ on all titles at Ultra and that willl stay like that for a good number of years. Had i gone down the PS5 route , i would off had to get a PS5 and PS5 Pro for what 1200 and even then the PS5 Pro would be lower performance. Add to that lower games costs, mods, things like Fallout London and oh yep it also does PC stuff. People think you need a 4090 you don't One of the main concerns was actually storage , which to all intents on a PC is 'unlimited' well currently i have around 14TB, mostly NVME

No disc drive included is absolutely crazy. Lets not forget this console still has the same cpu, with a gpu bump that you can easily achieve on pc. Pc also lets you learn to make games.

920€ with drive is insane. 1200€ if i install 4tb ssd.. for maybe 60fps in some games and maybe 4 years until ps6 is a bit steep
