How could you not.. we all experience loading times for like ever! It all get worser and worser over the years, the tech is a true revolution in our systems, finally not half of the cpu and memory speed get wasted on waiting on the HDD to move its arm, wait for the disc to be in position and read 4 bytes.. and then move the arm to another location, wait, wait, wait and finally load a bit of more data.. Ssd’s be like just ask me the data you want😎 then it will keep throwing the data you asked for without any delay, their might be some useless data loaded because ssd’s read complete blocks of data instead of a small part you actually needed.. this results in loading big blocks for a lot of small files, which can be solved by ordering the files the right way..

A heatsink for this use case (PS5) is probably more important than even use in a PC, simply because it will be at higher usage and temps will be high regularly.
@ClosestNearUtopia3 жыл бұрын
Well… its more how this heats get there.. your pc will sometimes ask for a bit of data while if you game you nvme will put a bit to the test. This statement totally doesnt make sense if you game on your pc, I would deffenitely cool those guys, the read speeds will be hight and alot of activity will warm the drive up. That being said I am going to say the ps5 could go better without heatsink, pure because the nmve is placed on the outside not being baked by all other componens emitting their heat into in this case nvme, also is active cooled by the fan which pulls pure fresh air over the nvme instead of baked air from within the system..
@soapa42793 жыл бұрын
@@ClosestNearUtopia I didn't say a heatsink is not needed in a PC. It's just probably more important in the PS5 due to the nature of the constant read/writes. In most PC cases, it has airflow from the case fans to help. The PS5's design, relies on the small cooling duct which nobody really knows how well it works yet (as there have been no thermal tests online)
@ClosestNearUtopia3 жыл бұрын
@@soapa4279 I know, you said its probably MORE usefull in a ps5. You deffenitely make a point there with the read/ write that constantly happening. Id say, the NVMe has no cooling solution inside of the ps5 system. Nothing will draw the heath out or blow on the thing whenever the case is closed. I head some saying heath is drawn from the side into a heatsink, which is not the case. Id looked into disassembled ps5’s and nothing suggest heat is drawn from the NVME slot. I tend to redesign the NVME slot cover, which i will extend with room for a heatsink, and let the thing end above the fan so it can work like an airduct, with an inlet on the grilled side of the ps5 so it can breath the most fresh air in. Whatcha think? Dont get me wrong, we all talk in perspective to pc and ps5 here.
@soapa42793 жыл бұрын
@@ClosestNearUtopia Yes exactly, you're describing the main concern. Though I trust the Sony engineers accounted for this, but just looking at it visually, I don't see how the design pulls heat away efficiently. I can't wait to see real thermal tests (thinking Gamers Nexus) to see if our concerns are real or we're just overthinking.
@ClosestNearUtopia3 жыл бұрын
@@soapa4279 I am very exiting as well what temps could be measured while gaming, hopefully someone will do. I tried to look into how much an NVME slot can deliver and that is about 25watts, I also checked how much a Nvme Ssd will use about, which I did not got an exact clear answer on, not even on fabrication spect. Goin from the limit of 25 watts the cooling would be to smal, it would be about 1/10 of what you would need to cool it with an upper of 90c.. but from what I can fint as an anwer from google they say about 8 watts for an nvme drive. Then I went into an heatsink calculator and gave the following parameters: size, operation temprature and limit, airflow. If I use and ssd with the format of 22mm x 60mm and a cooler of 1cm high and a breeze as an airflow. You would be able to dissipate about 8 watts, and thats continously, so considereing the ssd will have to work hard, but not all the time, this should actually work maybe, I used celsiainc.com/resources/calculators/heat-sink-calculator/ for that if you want to play around with the calculator yourself, interesting..

So, uh, which heatsink did you test with?
@ArkonideAtlan3 жыл бұрын
@NASCompares, sorry you are wrong! Once the game is installed, there are hardly very low writing operations. Games are reading 99% all the time from the disk and reading does not generate heat on any ssd. Writing on SSD is that was generates Heat. In your testing you hammering the SSD with a lot of writing operation, this will never happen on any Playstation/PC game. Do your Testing again with just read.

Would you recommend putting a ssd into a heatsink unit and using a heat sink cover instead of the one that came with the PS or is that not possible ?
@thomascsihar54893 жыл бұрын
saw a guy saying that heatsinks heat up the NAND which isnt good. unless youre writing heaps of data which wont happen on a PS theyre not necessary. The NAND temp is the most important. the best senario is a heat sink that only contacts the Controllers and not the NAND. A note on the sebrent heatsink. same guy couldnt get it to make contact with the ssd and needed to wrap elastic bands around it.

What's about the change of the airflow, if the metal plate isn't closed? I mean you change the air pressure in the system, if you don't close it. I would close it, if sony recommends it. But that's only me, I could be wrong of course

You would never get a sustained load on a ssd on a game console. I know you discaim this is text, but the title in the video is "100 percent need" and I would expect a representative test.
@freemanzweidreifunf80253 жыл бұрын
theres none that would support his arguement, maybe ratchet. I think his point is entirly about future games that might utilize the SSD, so kind of a good advice rather than a 100% requierment he likes to make it out to be. I personally would not advise so, but for most titles you could get away with cheap Gen3 SSDs even without a heatsink, and then leave all real PS5 titles on the internal SSD. Would save a lot of money for people and is In my eyes the best upsite to having an open standart like M.2 Slots:) - but thats just me

@@freemanzweidreifunf8025 his test were reads and writes no game is doing that.
@freemanzweidreifunf80253 жыл бұрын
@@woodiemarv Yeah I know, his key point is the sustained load that also no game really does even if its purely reads... but they might do in future - thats what I'm guessing at is his "addvise" that he extrapolates to an requirment.
