The best advice I can give to a new cantor is to JUST KEEP GOING 🤣 EVERYBODY has messed up a psalm before, and if you find yourself in that situation, you just pick right back up in the right spot. 🤣 If you hit the wrong note or stumble over some words, 3/4 of the congregation wont notice it (let's be honest, people tend to tune out during the middle of the mass) and the other 1/4 (if they are actually Christian) will be forgiving, and realize that they couldn't do what you are doing, and will be lenient. ALSO, you have to use your talent and God-given gift first for God, and then for His people. I always say a prayer before I cantor. "Lord, please let me be a channel for your word, to help your people understand and know you better. Lord, let me not be a distraction for your people, but help me to help them know you better." It helps me to be less nervous when I know that I am not singing for the purpose of being recognized as a beautiful singer, (although I'm sure you definitely are,) but rather I am singing to praise God and that I am not the reason for the mass. I hope everything went well, and I hope you continue to serve God and His people! 😁
