I cried every time we performed this piece in my eighth grade year. We dedicated this song to a recently passed gym teacher who everyone loved and cherished. I’m truly grateful to have been given the opportunity to honor the great, caring, joyful man that we lost. Rest In Peace Coach Cartwright. ❤️ Edit: And a huge thank you to Gavin, who performed the solo at the beginning. We’re forever thankful for your contribution to our performance. You did spectacular!

Yeah in my band we will be playing this for my friend who recently passed away due to suicide. But our band director is translating the trumpet solo to a trombone solo (the instrument I play) because my friend played trombone.

We played this song for my 7th grade Christmas concert in honor of a student that passed away. Best French horn player, and best friend anyone could ever have. This marks the 4th Christmas without her, and my family is going through a lot right now. Listening to it gives me hope, and reminds me that no matter how hard life gets, we always bounce back in the end. May you Rest In Peace Ally

When I first played this song I cried and I still cry every time I hear it. In our 7th grade year we played this for a friend and fellow band member that committed suicide. He played the trombone so our loving band teacher translated the trumpet solo to a trombone solo that me and 4 others played. It was and forever will be the most moving piece we've played. And I'll never forget the way it said to play it. "With Most Beautiful Sound" -Fly high Eli❤❤❤

Also I played this song at my band class when I was in 7th grade. I was the trumpet solo with Elena, clarinet, and Easton, tenor saxophone. I need psalm 42 played at my funeral, if no, then I will not die! Seriously, I want this song played at my funeral! I love u Jesus. I believe in the lord. I rlly hope I’m one of his sheep’s so I can have the time to go to heaven and see my baby cousin, and my great grandmother and great grandfather! Aman! 😭😭😭😭😭✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️

Freshman year of High School I was the solo Trumpet at the start. I always played the F's sharp, never natural until the concert. I played it natural and oh boy was it noticable. Going to try to convince my Band Director to have us play it again next year so i can avenge said mistake.

At an event I was in, we had a flute solo start, and trumpets join in with it. One of the trumpets actually wrote his one piece to play under the flute solo. It fit too which was better. Then we played the song 3 times. First was singing( with solo starting where it started.) then how it was wrote, then majestically. Fun piece. The flute solo made an even more emotional piece though. I always imagine if it had a solo at the end.

Thetony444 I'm afraid I disagree. Where this piece may look simple, the dynamics are key, and as such make it more complex to play. I don't dispute that more inexperience musicians would play this to a decent standard, but to execute the dynamics properly, and do this piece justice, takes a degree of skill. As the piece is slow, absolute precision is necessary, and precision comes from experience.
@quinnmcmath4393
@quinnmcmath4393 7 жыл бұрын
Thetony444 Actually, this piece (which it even says in the description) is for older bands to really focus in on great tonal quality and dynamics, which is challenging for a young band.

The harmonic language is so simple. Almost entirely basic1-4-5 chords like a pop song. I expect better from Samuel Hazo, especially when there are so many good arrangements of this song at this level.
@blaknite16523
@blaknite16523 5 жыл бұрын
You clearly do not have enough of an understanding of music to hear that there is significantly more going on in this song. The suspensions and appoggiaturas are what make this piece so beautiful, even if the chordal structure is intentionally simple.
@mr.klunee4103
@mr.klunee4103 5 жыл бұрын
I understand music quite well and a lot better than you do based on what you just typed. A good arrangement isn't just the melody with chords behind it. It doesn't matter what kind of suspensions or color tone or what you add, music has to go somewhere and this goes round in circles. There are SO MANY opportunities for more expansive/progressions with this melody. For example at measure 26 (1:36). You could do Am-Dm7 (or Dm9) - Gm7 -Am7 -BbM9 -C7-Csus13 (or other dominant chord(s)) - F (which is basically what the Vince Gassi arrangement does). But what's there? Am-Bb-F-Bb-C-Bb - F-Bb-C-F............very simple. The suspensions help but, well, not much. A group of pretty sounds following a tempo doesn't necessarily make a good piece of music.There are so many good arrangements of this melody at this level and I really think Hazo could have done better with this one. His main mistake imo was trying to score it for both band and orchestra instead of writing 2 different arrangements.
@mr.klunee4103
@mr.klunee4103 5 жыл бұрын
Just to be clear, I don't think it's really a bad arrangement. I just wish Hazo had done a little bit more with the arrangement, given how good his other lyrical pieces are. I actually plan on doing this song in a few weeks.
