With a unique blend of flowing lines and lush textures coupled with dynamic Celtic drumming, Sam has created a very stylized and effective setting for wind band. Interspersed are quiet moments with soloistic woodwind lines that contrast nicely with the emotional full band passages.

This song will forever be in my heart, as it was the last gift to our beloved band director. Everyone misses him.

It will always be in my heart too because this is the very last song my band plays of every year, and in the middle of the piece, the seniors start getting up and leaving. The worst/best part is whenever there's fermatas or at the end of the piece, all you can hear is the band trying not to cry. This year we're thinking about doing it for state but I don't know if that's a good idea because on one hand we would put a lot of emotion into the song, but on the other hand we can't start crying midpiece. Thoughts?
@Kalyptoisea

@@garlic_bread_toast4403it should be a class vote and decided by majority. If they want to share their piece out loud, then let it be shared. Music is an expression on emotion. If the kids have the heart of the song then it should be expressed as well. I love this piece when my band director first introduced it (because I'm a biased trumpet player)

@@Kalyptoisea Honestly, the best part about this piece is how inclusive it is because the horns, piccolo, percussion, saxes, and apparently trumpets too, love this song because they have the best part in their own eyes. Also we ended up not doing it for state but we did way better than last year. This year we got 17/20 and last year we got 20/20

Love this song, probably my favorite that we played in Region band in my sophomore year. I'm I senior now. Yesterday's joy indeed. Songs like this make me remember why I love music and band. My high school band is trash and plays grade 1s, I never realized this was a grade 4

Played last spring for high school MPA and got to do the piccolo and flute solos as a senior. First time we played it my diroector teared up and when we played at MPA we got all superiors. This song will forever have a space in my heart and I hope to conduct it with my future band students as a band director! ❤️
