Interesting, but I think you glossed over the actual question. What impact does the clock have on the sound? It is major. A low jitter clock signal to the DAC chip results in substantial improvement in imaging, accuracy, natural tonal quality, slam and perceived extension in bass and treble. If you want a DAC to sound like a good analogue source, a great clock is essential.

I want to know why companies are not using external clocks like Gustard u16 with improved LPSU's? I was totally blown away when I heard how much this improves the timing/harsness/detail. And believe it or not, it sounded more natural. I simply don't get it why all manufactors still have a built in clock in their devices. To me it makes sense to separate it from everything else, as long as you do it on a high level. I think that this one thing is the very future where we will see a lot of improvement in HIFI going forward.

Hi Paul. Had a couple questions on the struder mixing console!. Any plans on making videos devoted to rebuilding or showing the insides and what all you guys plan to upgrade and change inside? I have never seen inside a mixing console (especially one this famous) and I'm sure many other would love it! This is a silly question but you plan to keep it all analog and keep its original sound intact? As much as folks don't wanna hear this, I'm sure that, like everything else has a special sound of its own😀 thank you Paul for taking us all on your tangents!

Once you finish modifying that console you should take the analog output to your amplifiers driving a cutting lathe to make a direct to disc LP. Right now i'm not interested in anything digital until someone proves to me its better.

From Wikipedia: "The Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem is a theorem in the field of signal processing which serves as a fundamental bridge between continuous-time signals and discrete-time signals. It establishes a sufficient condition for a sample rate that permits a discrete sequence of samples to capture all the information from a continuous-time signal of finite bandwidth." "Strictly speaking, the theorem only applies to a class of mathematical functions having a Fourier transform that is zero outside of a finite region of frequencies. Intuitively we expect that when one reduces a continuous function to a discrete sequence and interpolates back to a continuous function, the fidelity of the result depends on the density (or sample rate) of the original samples. The sampling theorem introduces the concept of a sample rate that is sufficient for perfect fidelity for the class of functions that are band-limited to a given bandwidth, such that no actual information is lost in the sampling process. It expresses the sufficient sample rate in terms of the bandwidth for the class of functions. The theorem also leads to a formula for perfectly reconstructing the original continuous-time function from the samples." I.e., it has been proven mathematically that there is a digital sample rate that will allow PERFECT reproduction of the input signal (in theory, a sample rate that is twice the highest frequency you wish to capture). No analog recording/playback method can provide such perfect reproduction. Note: "allow", the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem is an abstract proof, the actual electronic implementation of A/D and D/A converters affects the result. Also, while a digital recording may perfectly capture the input that doesn't mean that it will sound good. GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out) still applies.

The most sought after analog recording consoles are virtually all from the 70s (Neve, API, Trident, Quad Eight). There are high end analog consoles built from the 80s to 00s from SSL and the Neve 88R, but these generally have less vibe and are used for heavily processed music (also more expensive and harder to repair because surface mount chips).
