Text Psalms 91
Psalm 91
New International Version
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he[b] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
Who penned the Psalms book? The Psalms were written by who?
Who wrote the book of Psalms 91?
The book of Psalms is one of the most well-liked Old Testament texts among contemporary readers. This ageless compilation of prayers, songs, and poetry addresses a range of life's challenges. Through prayers of thanksgiving, praise, and sometimes grief, the psalms encourage readers to establish a connection with God. The Psalms contain didactic lines that instruct us to align our lives with God and His Word, in addition to emotional lines meant to foster contact with God. Numerous psalms, including the well-known Psalm 23, Psalm 91, and Psalm 121, are simple to put to memory. The Holy Spirit oversaw all of the human authors who contributed to this profoundly influential book.
Because of his reputation as a talented harpist and songwriter (see 1 Samuel 6:14-21; 2 Samuel 1:17-27), King David is frequently associated with the book of Psalms. According to the Hebrew names of the psalms, David is particularly identified as the author of 73 of them. Furthermore, writers of the New Testament identify David as the composer of two psalms (Psalms 2 and 95). Moses, Asaph, and the sons of Korah, Heman and Ethan (also known as Jeduthun), are credited with further psalms. Not all of the Psalms have an author; about fifty of them do not. David probably wrote a few of the fifty pieces as well. Some psalms are credited to Adam, Melchizedek, and Abraham, according to Jewish tradition.
Although modern research recognizes the Psalms' various writers, it does not accept the Jewish traditional attribution in its entirety. Academics point out that authorship isn't always required for attribution. As an example, Psalm 3, sometimes known as "A Psalm of David," may have been composed for the monarch or ordered by him. It's still plausible, though, that he penned it. Ancient text authorship can be difficult to ascertain, particularly when dealing with a collection of several works.
The psalms are believed to have been composed and arranged around the time Israel was rebuilding its nation following its captivity in Babylon. The work was probably compiled, arranged into its five books, and the titles added to the psalms for which the authorship was known by Ezra the scribe.
