@Eltercero3 жыл бұрын
Right. They are acting on instinct, but it's pretty dumb obviously. However, it does bring up the question as to how to manage it as the runner gets closer to the end zone. The best strategy would probably be to follow along with him and then take him down just before he runs in for the safety. Then they can score 3 or 7 if it goes according to plan.
@jameserickson53723 жыл бұрын
@@Eltercero I think you’d just let them go into the end zone to get a safety. Since it was ruled to have been touched by the return man, it would have been Kent State’s ball. So if you tackle him in front of the end zone, you would still have to get a defensive stop. Best bet is to get him in the end zone, get 2 points back, and get the ball back in good field position on the punt kickoff from the 20.
@Eltercero3 жыл бұрын
@@jameserickson5372 According to what I saw, the receiving team didn’t touch the ball. Therefore, the punting team can advance it backwards or forwards, but will not get position of the ball regardless. So I stand by my original comment.

@@pschighlights It's actually happened quite a few more times than twice in college football history. It's happened once in Division 1-AA, once in Division II, and at least four times in Division III. So, yeah, it's actually happened at least six times in college football history.
@james_ford863 жыл бұрын
@@darkshinethakid4463 No, it's happened in the NFL as well, but not since 1940. For a long time, it was next to impossible to score a 1pt safety in the NFL, due to the defense not being able to take possession of the ball on a blocked PAT. The only way that could have happened while that rule was in effect would be if the PAT was blocked and the defense, without taking possession of the ball, batted it out of the back of the endzone. It's also possible, yet astronomically unlikely, for a defense to score a 1pt safety against the kicking team/2pt conversion offense. This would mean the kicking team/offense would have to have a bad snap and fail to chase it down until it reached their own endzone (likely helped along by several fumbling attempts to recover the ball) and then failed to get the ball back out of their own endzone before the defense tackled them. This, for obvious reasons, would most likely never happen in the NFL because that would require a loss of 99+ yards in a single play, which has never happened in recorded NFL history. In 2015, however, the rule not allowing a defense to take possesion on an INT, Fumble Recovery, or blocked kick was lifted, allowing the defense to potentially run these forms of turnovers back for their own conversion. So, since that is the case, the likelihood of us seeing a 1pt safety in the NFL in our lifetime rose considerably. Obviously, even with that rule, this is still a very rare way to score. It's so rare, though, that I wouldn't be surprised if there are players in the NFL or Division 1-AA who don't know that's a possible way to score.

Dalvin Cook's fumble was the result of attempting to alter how he was holding the football as he approached the goal line. There's no good reason to do that but it's done all the time but rarely results in dropping the ball.

If you do a 3rd one, TCU has been penalized for uniforms: once two players on the field had the same number (kickoff return, IIRC) and another was something about shin guards or knee pads, possibly not being covered up.

You left out the kickoff from the 2019 OSU @ Maryland game. OSU kicker kicks it right to Olave who take it in for a touchdown. Coolest play i have ever seen.

I like how at 1:10 the 2nd and 3rd guy just trusted their guy to make the catch that's confidence in your team.

1:40 That ball clearly bounched off the glove and the tip of it touch the ground aswell as bounced off his foot. I believe that ball should be called an incomplete pass right?

Kicking team can't advance a muffed kick. Officials should have blown their play dead as soon as the kicking team gained possession
