Firstly, the crying thing is a mistranslation, there's a thread on Kanzenshuu that goes into it. Besdies that, I think it's worth noting that New Broly and Old Broly really aren't actually that different, unlike what people claim: He's ALWAYS been an abused kid that his father is trying to use as a tool for his revenge due to his latent power, but that's hard to control due to his power eroding his own sanity. Hell, even in the original film, he's seen as calm and polite when not angered, just like the new one. The difference is that the new movie actually spends time exploring this rather then only broly in his calm state be shown for like 40 seconds total. There was ALWAYS a good, interesting pair of characters in Broly and Paragus, the movie just didn't give them time to show it originally.
@LaloRomeroRCOVER5 жыл бұрын
I think the part where New Broly fails against old Broly is strength. Gogeta made him his bitch, and -- at least to me-- that shattered the perception people had of Broly. When Jiren came into scene, people were still debating whether or not Broly could beat him. The new movie gave us an answer: No, he can't. And even though we saw he was beatable, and not even close to even Bill's numbers, the movie still tries to tell us he is.
@Doctor_Odin5 жыл бұрын
He wasn't so much abused in the OG as it was his father and him going about the only business they know conquering planets and selling them. The new one has paragus putting a shock collar on him like he's some sort of pit dog while OG paragus had a sedation device built because you noticed that his son's Powers growing faster than he could mentally handle. Not to mention the OG lssj seems more of a curse because it was inexhaustible eventually turning him into a Mindless demon/devil. Now he doesn't even have that really his powers now are somehow based on him partially tapping into Ozaru without a tail which doesn't make any sense. Also seems like marketing ploy to separate him from kale the one that they gave lssj within the series Canon series first. Yes they call her lssj form berserk and whatnot now but in the promos for the episodes they said Legendary Super Saiyan.

It was actually tragic this time though. Paragus actually did love his son but his need for payback made him use his son like a blunt instrument. OG Broly makes a lot more sense if you have even a rudimentary grasp of psychology. The crying isn't *really* what he hates about Goku. It's that he associates that noise with a number of incredibly traumatic events that occurred throughout his life. The fact that the name Kakarot was later associated with that, likely by his father, let his damaged psyche connect just enough dots to turn him into a laser guided hate-missile. His recollection of it is purely subconscious but the sheer madness caused by his childhood is not. Simply put, he's so far out of his mind that his motivation *does not matter.*

So he’s essentially a sociopath?
@tek5125 жыл бұрын
@@josephlinden1630 I would say he's a sociopath, yes. The trauma conga he endured pretty much destroyed his ability to empathize with others. He shows many of the hallmark symptoms of sociopathy, though there is one area in which he is more akin to a psychopath: conscience. Sociopaths, having been (usually) shaped into what they are by life experiences, retain some semblance of a conscience; they can still tell right from wrong, though whether or not they care is another matter entirely. OG Broly does not appear to possess any capacity for discerning why his actions might be harmful to others. In fact, he's so far gone that he appears to get his rocks off on causing as much death and destruction as possible. An argument could be made for psychopathy as well since his power is a major player in why he's so f-king crazy. Much like the new Broly, the old one was made very susceptible to psychological issues by the sheer, absurd amount of power he has. The more he draws upon it, the more out of control he seems to get. This was shown to be true in his youth as well, though it's obviously gotten worse with time. The key difference lies in brain structure; psychopaths have several abnormalities that make them unable to process emotion correctly, whereas sociopaths are simply so broken that their minds malfunction despite having, ostensibly, a completely normal brain structure. We'll never know if the structure of his brain is abnormal or not. All we can go off of are symptoms.

@@thenew4559 No that's another huge misconception with the OG Broly that many fans see to miss. Old Broly shares more similarities with DOOMSDAY from DC than he does the Hulk. People only associate old Broly with Hulk for superficial reasons like the color green and huge muscles when he's more closer to DOOMSDAY with them both being treated like crap as infants and it warping their view of life. Both also share a intense hatred for Goku/Superman plus both while being brutes has in some form or way defied the stereotype. Broly and Doomsday defied it through thier showcase of style and brutality , example: DOOMSDAY would throw a 18-wheeler at you and in the event that you caught it follow it up by like driving into it while you're still holding it. Broly would throw a ki blast at you and right before it hits you he'll cause it to veer left something else as a way of faking you out. If anything new Broly is more like the Hulk than old Broly plus old Broly beat all the Z fighters during that current time much to akin to how DD would bear up the leauge.

I grew up with DBZ in the late 90's and early 2000's, and your explanation is exactly on point. Broly was definitely mysterious to a lot of us in the USA at that time. I only saw clips of the broly movies in AMVs shared through P2P programs back then and was dying to see the real thing. I honestly didn't get to see the full movie until Funimation released it because I couldn't snag a fan subbed copy anywhere. Also, funimation released the broly movie in 2003.

Long before 2005, us Americans DBZ long had and seen the Broly movies from bootleg VHS tapes as far back as during the 90s, as you could easily pick up a copy from a swap meet or even from mail order catalogs that specialized in Japanese anime imports and/or bootlegs, hell even blockbuster and hollywood video locations carried a subtitled copy or two of the various DBZ movies long before an official English dub release. Then when websites like Yahoo Auctions, ebay, etc became a thing at the end of the 90s and into the early 2000s, that also became a haven for bootleg and subbed import copies. So not sure why you think that Americans haven't seen the Broly movies before 2005. Especially when you consider the GIFs floating around the internet most likely originated from copies of the movie that Americans owned. I personally had a bootleg collection of the complete DBZ series and some of the movies on VHS back in the late 90s from these various sources.

@propane_salesman5 жыл бұрын
I never really thought Broly was cool because he was relatable or anything like that, I just like him because if his sheer intimidation. Sure, his power level is arbitrarily the largest, but so is every other DB villain's before they find the right transformation or attack to beat them. Each major Dragon Ball villain has something unique about them that makes them intimidating aside from the fact they're really strong. Frieza is a coldhearted, flamboyant villain who also is the guy who literally singlehandedly wiped out Planet Vegeta. Cell could have been defeated before he got so strong, adding to the feeling that they've run out of easy ways to best him, and he also knows every trick the Z Fighters have because he's made of them all. Kid Buu was just a pure fucking animal who just wouldn't fucking die. What makes Broly intimidating is the fact that he's just such a large, angry presence. With most villains, you get to learn how strong they are ny watching them fight. But you take one look at Broly and you already know that he's the strongest guy in the room. The Z Fighters are supposed to be an unstoppable force, but Broly is the immovable object. He just shits on them so hard and doesn't even acknowledge their attacks. With most villains, if an attack doesn't hurt them, they at least draw attention to it. With Broly, the attacks just bounce right off. Then he takes the main character and just beats the ever-loving shit out of him for like 10 minutes straight. Couple that with his personality. You have probably the most powerful entity in the universe, and he's batshit insane. You can't try to really talk to him in any way, he's just a relentless, murderous dog. And he doesn't even kill you quickly, he tortures you. The beating he gave to Goku was one of the worst beatings in Dragon Ball. To sum it up, Broly is scary because he's completely evil and crazy, has no motivation but to kill, and is big, strong, and green

@@mobiusygosh1tp0sts37 I mean, yes, but it's just like how pronouncing Goku the correct way in English (Go-kuh instead of Gow-ku) like KaiserNeko does for instance only makes you sound weird.

New Broly, old Broly... That doesn't matter, it only matters that his power level is pretty big.

12:00 that is called sentence mixing and its one of the most used components of an ytp. its an old style of remixing. from 2008 i think i am surprised you dont know this kind of editing is a whole genre on youtube. i do it myself. check out my video like. cuphead theme YTP 2 out of my 3 steamed hams videos, susboy. or zero infects sigma with ligma. they are all just like you describe the paragus videos. you dont need to go to this lenght to try to explain this to someone who does not understand japanese. just show them some english ones

Wait why isn't Peragus in more games and stuff if he's so popular in Japan?

Maybe because he doesn't have attacks?

Janemba and Hirudegarn are even more one-dimensional than old Broly tho
@kaihedgie17475 жыл бұрын
Janemba and Hirudegarn are simply monsters though, be they actual freak accidents or ancient foes. They're just the bad guy to beat and you aren't even suppose to feel for them or anything. Broly gets ragged on because in spite of having a backstory, everything about him in the proceedings makes him one-dimensional

@ProDeimonk I didn't say Hirudegarn and Janemba are better characters. But I suppose putting words in peoples' mouths is something Broly fanboys enjoy doin' :U

Sorry but friends and I knew of Broly in NA because of fansub VHS tapes in the 90s. Also I believe he was on some cards that were sold in South America/Europe. Didn't his figure come out in the 2000s as well before his dvd release in the NA?

So what do you think of the movie now?
@StarSeedHaokahGildas5 жыл бұрын
In the old Broly movies they made Broly a real bastard by killing his father the way he does.
