I think you’re completely forgetting that dragon ball just had a different version of “filler” they made things last 10x what they ever should have. A whole episode to power up, two punches an episode ect ect. A lot more happened in each episode of naruto than happened in dragon ball.
@tatocezar15 жыл бұрын
not really, there are power up scenes that take longer in naruto than in db, the main transformations and moments are the only ones that take long.
@ImTheMan0fSteel5 жыл бұрын
Otávio Dantas like what? That’s not true at all. There was rarely if ever an episode where naruto sits there talking to a villain about his new power up for 20 minutes and then the last 10 is him screaming and people being like “he’s shaking the PlaNETTTT he’s so strongggg” and then maybe they throw a punch and talk for another 20 minutes. There’s shit LIKE that in naruto, like when they stop to explain a sharigan power or something but when they do stop to do that you actually learn something about the universe they are in. There’s a lot of world building that goes into those type of scenes in naruto that are completely absent from dragon ball. No one in their right mind can say that dragon ball has better world building or better writing in the slightest. There’s a lot more going on in naruto and a lot more depth. I enjoy dragon ball more, but it is just dumb stupid fun and literally nothing more. It was a really low quality anime as well with constant reuses of animation dragged out in an entire episode that covers maybe a few panels of the manga. The filler in naruto is infinitely better than dragon ball filler as well. The garlic jr arc was some of the worst cartoon tv I’ve ever watched in my entire life.
@ImTheMan0fSteel5 жыл бұрын
Rogue Rogue even when that happens, there’s still word building going on and some of it is actually pretty good. Episodes explaining the akatski or the history of some clan or the politics of a certain nation, ect. The writing was still always always better than dragon ball.

It’s funny to think that, at one point, the Naruto and Naruto Shippuden manga, in the US, used to sell as much as fucking Batman and Spider-Man comics. That was way back in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s. It was wild. I remember going to school book fairs and ordering Naruto manga next to YA novels and Spider-Man comics. I gave my Naruto volumes to a younger cousin who had gotten into Boruto and he was bewildered at the sight of old Naruto manga volumes. As much as people look back and cringe at the moments where they did the Naruto run or shouted jutsu in public while playing with friends, those were simpler and fun times. We didn’t give a rats ass about what other people thought; we were just kids having fun.

Think about it. What was the last supportive character in television with mass appeal. I'm not an american, but i can remember bob ross, and that's a lot of time without one, so the demand was there. Here in Brail at least, Young adults love this aspect of the show and always use naruto as an example even for the academic difficulties. so that's that

This is how I first became aware of Naruto. I bought Shonen Jump for Dragonball, got stuck on Naruto right there. Then I got impatient and realized that I could go read translations online and I bought Naruto merch. What you touched on about Naruto being in the right place at the right time is 100% accurate. Unfortunately, the show's quality got worse while the kids who grew up on it naturally had less time for it or lost interest. If you ask a random person who might have watched the show, they will likely remember moments like the zabuza arc, chuunin exam, or sound 5 fights as their favorite moments. Only the most dedicated hardcore fans bring up shippuden and even fewer bring up anything beyond the pein saga. I think part of the problem was that it was oversaturated and promoted to such a huge extent from day 1. There was sooo much merchandising, not to mention all the amvs and cosplay that exploded out of nowhere as the video points out. Like harry potter and Pokemon, it kinda became a victim of its own success. Didnt help that the writing got worse, tbe art became more bland and less imaginative (especially in the manga), and of course all the damn fillers.
@Pseudiom5 жыл бұрын
Victim of its own success is a good description. Very few of my friends watched to even the end of the first series. Over-saturation was a huge factor in killing Naruto. The larger the series the more obnoxious the fans.

I was one of the many kids who grew up watching Naruto when it initially aired in the US back in 2005, and I remember that Saturday evening like it was yesterday, it was the first time I could stay up past 9 PM, and it was just for that one show. I was part of the obsession, having Naruto t-shirts, Naruto manga volumes, Naruto trading cards, an official Naruto guidebook, and what else but a Hidden Leaf Headband. Looking back it was a surreal time, but it was a good time, and I kind of miss those days. People say My Hero Academia is this generation's Naruto, and while I like that series, it just doesn't have the same effect that Naruto did back in the day. Naruto was something special, it came out in the right place at the right time, and was pretty much where the "modern" anime fandom started, and it's just hard for any other anime series to recreate that experience. I just don't think there will ever be another series like Naruto (Boruto doesn't count), and while I could easily say that My Hero Academia is a spiritual successor, I just don't feel it will ever truly meet the same level of success.

The sad part, for me at least, is that I still know of places that do rather toxic and cringy Roleplays of this stuff that make me wish I was the ghost story...

It's genuinely a pretty good anime if you skip all the filler. I'd give it a 7.8/10.

I remember LOVING this show in middle school, and the AMV's (Papa Roach and Three Days Grace ones were my favorite because 6th grade wannabe emo edge lord) Looking back on it now, God it was cringy as hell! Might have to go back and rewatch one just for nostalgia sake.

To be fair fights in Dragon Ball Z being dragged out for much longer than they needed to be, not being accounted for in that 15% figure misleads how much of the original Z run was "filler"

I first saw naruto when I was about 5, I had no idea what it was. it was in the middle of a fight between naruto and sasuke vs the bug guy (shino I believe), I watched it for a minute or two before falling asleep
