Pseudo Echo - Listening

Pseudo Echo are an Australian New Wave band formed in 1982 in Melbourne. The original line-up consisted of Brian Canham (vocals, guitars and keyboards), Pierre Gigliotti (as Pierre Pierre) (bass guitar, keyboards), Tony Lugton (guitars and keyboards) and Anthony Argiro (drums). A later line-up included James Leigh (keyboards) and his brother, Vince Leigh (drums). In the 1980s, Pseudo Echo had Australian top 20 hits with "Listening", "A Beat for You", "Don't Go", "Love an Adventure", "Living in a Dream" and their cover of "Funky Town", which peaked at No. 1 in 1986. In 1987, it reached No. 1 in Canada and New Zealand, No. 6 in United States and No. 8 in United Kingdom.
They released their debut album, Autumnal Park in 1984 which peaked at No. 11 on the Australian Kent Music Report. Love an Adventure followed in 1985 and reached No. 14. Their third album, Race (1989) peaked at No. 18 and in 1990 the group disbanded. They reformed in 1998 and issued Teleporter in 2000. Rock music historian Ian McFarlane, stated they "combined flash clothes, blow-wave hairstyles, youthful exuberance and accessible synth-pop to arrive at a winning combination ... and found a ready-made audience among teenagers who fawned on the band's every move".

I still got this on vinyl. I remember the day I got it. I bought this, then went to the cinema to see Terms of Endearment afterwards, then I got home and played this to death. Aah the memories.

Absolutely love this rich new wave synth. Man those electro notes and beautiful bouncing base. Sounds like this just don't exist anymore. What an incredible beautiful mysterious time the early 80s were.

I'm from UK so only beginning to find all the 80s music from different countries now that I would have never known about before Internet. Germany also had some cool stuff, just search for German 80s music and other countries from around the world, you will love it!!!! Wow, what an amazing video. I mean the set looks great, the clothes and the hairstyles look awesome. The set is simple yet so effective. Bring back the 80's! I mean whatever happened to those revivals where they bring back older styles and music and fashion? We so need an 80's new wave revival.

There's another video for this song that came out later where they look even more totally '80s with the hair and clothes. That video is better than this one. In the '80s, men had cool haircuts (and had better hair than women did), and you could always tell from a guy's hair what kind of music he was into. Now, guys look very generic. Even all the hipsters look the same (huge beards, flannel shirts, look like members of Duck Dynasty).

I agree with you 100% Rick. This was a great video. Like you said Rick simple and effective. I remember seeing this on Countdown. If I remember correctly it was a Countdown produced clip and at the time they were not even signed to a record company. I think this clip and the response to the song got them a record deal.

It's dreadful in every way. The lyrics were dire then and they haven't got any better in the interim. The melody is on a par with Mary had a little lamb and the general level of musicianship is dreadful. All show and no go. When hairstyles and clothes are more important than musical ability this is the result
