Cant believe this came out in 1986, I remember being a kid and being stopped in my tracks when first heard this song and I instantly loved the band. This was at the start of my now decades of learning the guitar and for me this song was a massive undertaking for me as a kid. It set me on a road that had me discovering Yngwie, Gary Moore, Vai etc and into professional music work and much of it was started by this (cover) songs influence alone.

This is the best song ever, by far! The best cover of a song. My dad showed this to me, definitely one of my favorite songs ever!

@@batfleckforever3594 The word "keytar" is actually a recent term, like "yacht rock." Believe it or not, nobody called it a "keytar" back in the '80s. They were called "remote controllers" or "remote keyboards" or "strap-on controllers." One company came out with a controller with the brand name "Keytar" (which actually wasn't a big seller compared to its competition models) but no one was able to use it because it was trademarked.

It's a keytar. It's same as any old keyboard, but worn like a guitar. Keytar was ( like Kleenex) a brand name, so remote synth, portable synth, shoulder synth, strap synth were a few of the names I'd heard flying around at the time. Moog synth had one as far back as the 70's called the Liberator I believe...

The best rendition I ever heard of this song was done by my son's middle school band in 1988 at a school band concert. They did well with all their songs and then the final one was "Funky Town" and the kids went over the top -- a bit disjointed as a middle school band would be but with huge feeling --- it was fabulous. Luckily I had my little tape recorder with me and can still play it.
