Re-scheduling of psilocybin and MDMA
www.tga.gov.au/resources/publ...
On 3 February 2023, TGA
Permit prescribing of MDMA for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression (TRD)
Psychiatrists who are specifically authorised under the TGA’s Authorised Prescriber scheme,
effective from 1 July 2023.
Legal psilocybin prescriptions in Canada
(January 2022)
www.drugscience.org.uk/canadi...
The SAP allows healthcare practitioners to request limited access to drugs that are not authorized for sale in Canada.
www.psychiatrist.com/jcp/depr...
Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is common
Responsible for much of the burden of major depressive disorder worldwide.
Rapid and sustained symptom reduction following psilocybin treatment for anxiety and depression in patients with life-threatening cancer: a randomized controlled trial
journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1...
Clinically significant anxiety and depression
Common in patients with cancer
Associated with poor psychiatric and medical outcomes
Double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
Intervention
Single-dose psilocybin (0.3 mg/kg),
70 Kg = 21mg
in conjunction with psychotherapy.
Assessed at 7 weeks
Psilocybin produced immediate, substantial, and sustained improvements in anxiety and depression,
and led to decreases in cancer-related demoralization and hopelessness,
improved spiritual wellbeing,
and increased quality of life.
At the 6.5-month follow-up
Psilocybin was associated with enduring anxiolytic and anti-depressant effects,
60-80% of participants continued with clinically significant reductions in depression or anxiety,
sustained benefits in existential distress and quality of life,
as well as improved attitudes towards death.
The psilocybin-induced mystical experience mediated the therapeutic effect of psilocybin on anxiety and depression.
Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT00957359
Change to classification of psilocybin and MDMA to enable prescribing by authorised psychiatrists
www.tga.gov.au/news/media-rel...
Medicines containing the psychedelic substances psilocybin,
and MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine)
Only conditions, currently sufficient evidence
For potential benefits in certain patients,
MDMA for treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder
Psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression
Acknowledges the current lack of options for patients with specific treatment-resistant mental illnesses
www.tga.gov.au/sites/default/...
Patients may be vulnerable during psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy,
requiring controls to protect these patients.
There are currently no approved products containing psilocybin or MDMA that the TGA has evaluated for quality, safety and efficacy.
However, this amendment will allow authorised psychiatrists to access and legally supply a specified ’unapproved’ medicine containing these substances to patients under their care for these specific uses.

During the 80's my dad suffered from depression, although it was hushed up to a greater extent. He used to go for treatments in Blackpool periodically. I didn't really understand what was going on with him at the time but knew he wasn't well. One day he was sent for a weeks sustained treatment, at a facility in Wesham hospital. To say they locked him up in a loony bin was an understatement. 😢 I don't know what treatment he received but the noise in the ward was unbearable, (it was more like a military barracks than a hospital, with twenty beds in one room, inmates of every spectrum you can imagine) if you weren't crazy going in, you sure would be by the time you left. I found it incredibly disturbing going to visit my dad, and looking back I can only imagine what that experience did to him. He came home on the Friday afternoon and we were all very happy to have him back, but even I, a selfish teenager could see he was worse than before. He had become really frail, he struggled to get up out of his arm chair, he refused my help, still the proud airman. Clearly, he could see no hope, as he hung himself on Monday while we were at work and school. 😢 To say the medical system failed him, would be a fair assessment I think. I sincerely hope that Big Pharma isn't allowed to block or interfere with brilliant innovations like these, then perhaps we can truly help people like my dad. RIP Alan Stewart.

If not for DMT, LSD and mushrooms I would have died in my early 20s from suicide. These tools showed me all the ares in my life that needed work and all of the trauma I was carrying and has helped me process some very heavy stuff. It also has reduced my fear of death and shown me beauty and acceptance I didn't know possible. This is yet another powerful step in the right direction.

That's one of the counterintuitive aspects of these medications, they put you at peace with the idea of our eventual death, but make life worth living and enable living well. The best bit is you don't have to keep taking them for their continued benefits - that must really stick in the throats of the pharmaceutical share-holders, poor things. Maybe they will find a treatment for chronic greed syndrome sometime soon.

Lack of perspective can be a real killer. I found mushrooms can let you see a bigger picture, reconnect you to the way of things, as it were. Younger people can drive themselves to suicide with guilt, usually guilt at something their older selves might even find laughable. A proper mushroom experience let's you talk to that older, wiser self. We all have fears to overcome, and you might not be as dark as you think.

Whatever gets you through the night. Psychedelics are not for everyone and some people react very badly to them, but they can be a great thing for people who have the right mindset. I've picked mushies since I was 17 when I first found them. I picked some the autumn before last. I rarely take them nowadays but I dare say I will have times when I take them. I'm the sort of person who can guide others safely through trips whilst being on them myself, but I am like the sober eyes as I can operate perfectly normally on them. I know what to look out for in others when they are on them, and know the right words to use to calm them and guide their trip to keep them feeling good, safe and comfortable.

I had a bout of depression and anxiety about 20 years ago and a good friend of mine suggested mushrooms, he had used them previously to control depression using low doses, illegally of course, and after a bit of discussion about it I decided to give it a go. To say that the results were miraculous is an understatement. Literally from my first time taking them the depression lifted and each time I felt it beginning to return another small dose sorted it out immediately. Only needed 3 more doses and I haven't suffered since. Unlike other drugs the depression doesn't return as soon as the drug wears off it seems to almost act like a reset for mood.

It's one of the few things in medicine that the layman would intuitively understand how it would works. Depression seems to feed on itself. It appears to be a psychological rut. It makes sense that any drug that breaks the user out of that rut by expanding their consciousness or simply diverting him from focusing on the darkness would have some benefit.

@bigbasil1908

Mushies are an ego suppressant, and a consciousness expander. You could probably take a teaspoon of turmeric with a couple of twists of freshly ground black pepper (which acts as a mono amine oxidase inhibitor) a half hour before having the low dose of mushies (I'm not sure what sort of dose microdosing them is as I have only ever taken larger amounts of mushies to trip on them, but I would probably take maybe 10 dried mushrooms for my idea of a microdose). Taking the turmeric and pepper beforehand will increase the effects of the mushrooms whilst having a very calming effect if you are gently tripping on them. Also just turmeric and black pepper on its own without mushies can give a mild cerebral buzz and is very good for you. Turmeric and black pepper taken with a very low tripping dose of mushrooms can give you a trip that is like a much more substantial dose with more colours and patterns etc, but without the paranoia that may come with taking mushies on their own as you are coming up on them (The turmeric and black pepper (or a couple of grams of syrian rue which contains harmaline mono amine oxidase inhibitor) brings a very comforting feeling to the trip).

@Big Basil I've find this very interesting, "turmeric and shrooms". In my 20s psilocybin was a big part of my life, especially in late September and October, when mushroom was in season, we hit the fields every second day or so, the golden Rule was not to pick the field dry, to prevent destroying those productive golden area's. We lived on a Danish island, famous for producing more potent Liberty Caps, I don't know if that really was true, but price wise, surely they were much more potent;). We used to make tea out of them, when done right, you had a really good and long experience, so the combination with turmeric and pepper, would have been interesting to try. I have a shot of turmeric everyday. The micro dosing thing, you need to know what mushroom you've got, these buggers from here "Liberty Caps" 10 wouldn't be micro dose I think. I remember us just eating 4 or 5 shrooms straight from the field (don't do that) and we had the visuals and a good time:)

Where do breediots get the right to impose unnecessary risk, suffering and death, without consent? This question is a “check mate” for every breeding dipshit. Because they must expose themselves to be sadomasochists in order to honestly answer any part of it. Ability doesn’t equal right. Life isn’t necessary. And consent matters. Breeders have no rational or ethical/moral response to any of this. Pro life = pro suffering. It’s all or nothing. The only thing a parent can guarantee their child, is that they’ll suffer and die, pointlessly. If one considers themselves empathetic, it is this fact alone that they must refuse to recognize because they subconsciously know it completely destroys any feelings of entitlement towards procreation.

Australian here. My own personal experience with psychedelics has been rather positive. Through micro dosing for a small stage in my life and also purely for the 'experience'. I never had "hallucinations' per say, sure things would distort at times but for me it was more the feeling, throughout my body, looking inwards for lack of a better way of saying it. I was also reading Eckart Tolle's book 'the power of now' at the time which radically changed my mindset. I don't overthink. I can't remember the last time that I had constant, perpetual repetition of words inside my head unless it was a song and that's rare. It was a scary concept at first but I am very glad to have found this "frame of mind" for again lack of a better way to say it.

So my MDMA anecdote: I was an anxty and anxious teen at a party, and tried a tablet one night with friends. It removed (temporarily of course) every negative thought and emotion I had. I had no negative self-consciousness, no embarrassment, I felt proud of myself and completely at peace. In all the best possible ways. But by lifting off these feelings of depression and anxiety (and teenage hormones no doubt), it really showed me some personal issues I had to work on. I didn't realize how much self doubt I was carrying daily until I tried MDMA. Now the next day was terrible. Never been drained of energy like that. Felt terrible. Also consumed alcohol that night afterwards as well of course. Anyways, only tried it once, but I did learn a lot about myself. Not saying it is for everyone by any means. Not recommending people try it right away. But that's what my experience was Edit: WARNING: it was largely a positive experience, but one extremely important thing to be cautious about, was how trusting and agreeable the drug made me feel towards other people. That's one thing I'd recommend extreme caution with. If you must try it, be around trusted friends.

Music, art and nature are all I need to be content.... p.s. there are no bad trips, it may seem so when the experience is happening but it's those experiences that bring the biggest change and often it's caused because people are so far away from who they are meant to be or are living against what is true to them.

Sober since 4.11.2008. 14+ years clean. I've dallied with the idea of taking shrooms again as I never had ptsd nor serious depressive disorder before coming off the booze and weed. Now I'm a jabbering, highly medicated BigPharma junkie. 😢 Sad but true. I'm wondering whether I should have a relapse and to hell with clean time? @@annabelrichardson2970 This is just a personal opinion but you should definitely do your own research on it as well. Tramadol is likely way worse than weed gummies to relieve pain. Using that tramadol consistently also will make you severely physically dependent and have withdrawals due to being an opioid.

He didn’t go to work and often hid under my bed. I hadn’t started school yet so seen him found and mom went mad. He was seeing a dr in Cape Town and it really wasn’t working. Options for folks were slim and you suffered alone due to stigma. He ended his life in the end. He had my brother and I sleep with him in the lounge as if we were camping. Early morning he left and we never seen him again. Took me until 2 years ago to find out he jumped off the bridge at the train station. We knew he sustained injuries there but was pronounced brain dead in hospital and life support ended. But suicide I found out only recent. So it was like reliving his death when I was a kid. And it just so happens as 10 years ago I was called with anxiety. Then bipolar. Now adhd. It’s not easy. My marriage is hanging in the balance due to my suffering. No violence. But I have been verbally abusive. So now I am on meds and doing well but only have God to help our marriage as I am already separated and so I know your pain. God bless you

People here take shrooms, DMT, LSD, weed, drugs to glimpse into the realer reality, the one that sits above our mental worries and the demons that drag us down and destroy our lives. We are all free to try out remedies for our pains, so power to them. But my dear, PLEASE keep holding on to God. He, the One God, Father, Son, Holy Spirit is what we're all looking for. It's HIS immense, absolute, infinite love for us that people yearn and sometimes embrace when being on drugs. You know this, you know it's not the drugs, it's Him. Take care of your body, as you must, it's very important. Exercise, eat well, sleep. Take care of your mind, be present, read good stuff, enjoy music & movies. But if you want to ail your soul, if you already know Him, if you already know that you have His help in your marriage, make use of that knowledge. Ask Him for help. Continuously. And take comfort in knowning that no matter what you go through, He loves you as you can't even imagine love.

I just recently recovered after having an ssri (sertraline) prescription for 1.5 years. After the first 2 months I found myself only slipping further into my depression/anxiety issue while my doctor kept saying it will get better. I gave it more time but still I found every day started blending together into another hopeless shade of grey After talking with my friend group who have went the psilocybin route I finally bit the bullet and bought my first ounce of mushrooms. Greatest decision of my life, after 1.5 grams the first try I felt completely uplifted for what felt like 4-5 days. Truly a breath of fresh air for what had been nearly 2 years of pain. I have now been clean of my ssri's now for 2 weeks with zero thoughts of going back.

Fasting can help you get over the ssri damage. Also helps with depression some. Some of the many benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fribrosis/scarring is reversed over time. Fasting increases nitric oxide release. Telomeres are lengthend and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' that is not supposed to be there. Reflexes and short term memory are increased. After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles as much as 1/3 of all immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire immune system. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy. Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures. Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer. Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue! The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting. Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus. When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state. What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast, though if the amount is tiny you will go back into ketosis very quickly. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many medications are dangerous to take while fasting so you may have to talk to your dr. about discontinuing them during a fast. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone and helps build muscle by increasing insulin sensitivity! The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose. Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses. Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention! When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, which destroys them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer. Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Big Pharma will always push their new, patented drugs on people (especially expensive SSRIs) and don't like it if / when people try street drugs like MDMA, LSD or Mushrooms for a much cheaper and effective treatment. Thank you so much for another great and honest approach on medicine. I was overdiagnosed and overmedicated with psychofarma from the age of 21 to 57. I am finally diagnosed with C_ptsd and trauma related dissociative disorder. Nothing worked and I was lost. The side effects of the "psychofarma" ruined my body. My psychologist told me about it but was not able yet to advise it, so I researched myself and started myself in combination with therapie on microdosing psylocobine for 2,5 monds now. I feel so much better and can see light in the darkness again. To be honest it saved my live. I hope this will give many poeple with mental and fysical problems some hope and releave. I was in nursing college in early 80's..I remember my clinical practice on the psychiatric ward, I had to observe/assist during ECTs. It was terrifying, it felt like participating in some medieval torture. As an immediate effect, patient's personality was changed, I'd say obliterated. This was why I never went to work in psychiatry. Instead, I chose pediatric ward, infectious diseases.

I witnessed a EST survivor a few years back. He was sent home to remote island (North Stradbroke island). He had no food in his fridge and when my former friend (a forensic psychiatric nurse and his former lover) asked for a cup of tea (she was English and the poms and other anglophiles do like a nice cup of tea in a crisis…what? Old Chap?!) he could not work out how to boil the kettle. He was frail and discombobulated. No aftercare nursing other than my hardarsed friend asking him what he hoped to do with his life from then on. She was a sociopath. I realised that day how cold she truly was. That poor man. I asked her later on what became of him? She said he went back to Scotland. I hope he did. Australia was not a lucky country for him either. I Suspect though she was talking in code about him going “home”. Anyway I got free of her early 2015. I don’t allow toxic narcissists in my inner circle now. Actually there is hardly anyone left …and I am okay with that.

I used MDMA and the mushrooms (full dosing and microdosing) in my younger years. But never under therapy settings. I m chronically ill with Lyme disease and brain damage and autoimmune issues. This has a big mental effect on me. Would love to try this in therapy settings. One thing I noticed after MDMA was that my brain fog and pain was gone for a whole week. I m a coma patient. This was extraordinary. Cause I always have debilitating brain fog since the brain damage accident. It s like the coma never completely went away.

@@mythtree6348 How much did you take? When you eat enough mushrooms to feel the effects (not micro dosing) they do tend to give people an upset stomach as the high starts to kick in (its common with mushrooms, ayahuasca and other hallucinogens) and if you are not in a positive setting with some one to keep to you "level" or in a good mind set at the time, eating enough to hallucinate can cause a bad trip. It is very easy to get lost inside your head and exacerbate a bad experience. Also the high can give what feels like jelly legs to people which can be uncomfortable if you are not expecting it but all of it is part of the process. Being in a good space with sober and safe people and/or having a decent frame of mind is important when taking enough to feel the effects for people new to the experience. I have always been told you should eat them dry and that is how I have always taken them when I'm dosing in plant form, I do get chocolate bars infused with psilocybin which I tend to like better for micro dosing. For me personally, a middle aged man of average build and weight, I take about 1/4 of a gram every month or so. That amount does not give me any effects and I'm able to function like normal. If I take anything more then that then its a stay at home kind of evening.

@@mariamerigold I am happy to hear that. I truly do not believe it is placebo, i think that the mushroom's and other hallucinogens make a positive short term chemical change in ones brain. So much of how we feel mentally and physically has to do with what we eat too, so making sure you keep your guts in good health is the most important thing. I believe we could solve many mental issues with proper diets and micro dosing of these wonderful and natural substances. It is so fantastic to see it starting to get much more mainstream.

@@mythtree6348 That seem very strange, never had any one with that experience. The few people I know that started to micro dose and had no prior experience with any substance beside alcohol started with 0.1 of a gram and adjusted accordingly, none of them got "high" from that low amount but I'm not saying its not possible. One will build up a tolerance too, so if I do want to have a night in and experience a trip, it takes me more now to get that experience then it did 10 years ago.

@@mythtree6348 Yes, meditation can be very helpful but real meditation is not something that comes easy to many people, its something that needs to be worked on a lot and can take a very long time to truly do. I myself like to journey, I met my spirit animal in the forest I travel to and have solved problems I face in real life there as well but it took months or more of dedication to truly clear my mind in the way needed for those spirit journeys and psilocybin can be very helpful for that too. Shamans have been using mind altering substances for those practices for century's. Using meditation, along with the what said in my last comment can all work together in a wonderful harmony, a good diet, an active lifestyle, a little micro dosing and some meditation if one wants are all great tools. Much better the SSRI's and other pharmaceuticals that most DR's push on people.

shrooms used to be legal to buy fresh in the uk, i used to buy them in tiger lilly in oxford, they really opened my mind in ways i cant even calculate now, they made me understand love and empathy as an autistic person.

Yes, even for non autistic people it really helps you understand peoples pain and suffering. Everyone on earth is gonna suffer and see friends and family suffer as well but everyone is pretending that everything is great whilst our leaders constantly try to divide and create hate.

Yes! The movie stars pay a fortune to "open" their minds up!! These methods are NOT harmful if dosing is correct!

I’m in South Africa and I know of an anorexic who is going on psilocybin ‘ journey’ via her psychiatrist to help her, I’m not sure that it’s legal here yet but nice to see an openness to try help when nothing else is working.

Psychedelics changed my life for the better. I wish I had to option to use them in a safe setting if I so wish. They’re natural.
