Hey Tweeterman! I have been a dedicated follower since your Polystation 2 video, and I recall annoying at least a 2-3 friends around then because I kept recommending your channel to people who barely knew what KZbin was at the time. Either way, really glad to see that I actually got a notification at the time of upload for this video and I hope there are many more to come in the future. Please never stop doing what you’re doing, I’ve never felt like creating content was my thing, but I will consume yours as long as you keep making it. Best of luck for the future!

In Japan, the number 4 is considered unlucky considering the fact that one way to pronounce the Japanese word for 4, "shi", is also the Japanese word for death. With that said, they would say the number 4 as "yon" instead of "shi" because of this. An example of this would be for "Nintendo 64", they would read it as "Nintendo Roku-Juu-Yon".

10:15 It's funny because, as a kid, I never understood sarcasm and I'd probably be like, "He don't know what 2 + 3 is?" Now that I get it, it's funnier and I really enjoy it.

Had a psion clone from another brand and thought it was the best thing ever, just for having a portable word editor and full keyboard. Only it had the same problem they all had that you could only open and close it so many times before breaking the connection cable inside. Id be in the market for a modern ultra-portable dedicated office editing device, maybe with an e-ink screen. Something like Freewrite, but smaller and closeable, and maybe also not for the price of a normal laptop.

Was it the Ericsson MC218? Since that's basically a rebadged Series 5mx
@ariekanibalie3 жыл бұрын
@@SamSquids That's the one! It was already going on obsolete when I got one second-hand, but such a wonderful device. I wrote whole articles on it and even used it as an e-reader of sorts, long before those came out. I'd read about the manufacturing flaw in advance so I'd close it as slowly and carefully as possible, and only when necessary. To no avail, one day it was dead and that was that.
@ariekanibalie3 жыл бұрын
Another thing that kinda sucked was that the memory was powered by a lithium battery, so if the AA's ran out and you had to change 'em, there was a change the device's whole memory would be wiped if that was out of juice
@SamSquids3 жыл бұрын
@@ariekanibalie then again, volatile memory was common on devices back in the 90s, I have a handspring visor deluxe that has the same issue where if power completely runs out, you lose your data.

@@SamSquids I also bought a Neo2 Alphasmart some years ago. Not as portable as a Psion but good enough if you're after a distraction-free writing device.

I'm pretty sure I was the only one using one of these in college when everyone was using Palm and Handspring PDAs. Laptops were still rare and Wifi was a myth or unheard of (I actually helped with the campus wifi roll out). Those 802.11a PCMCIA cards were pricey! Kids are so lucky now.

So, Psion was originally a British company and these are super common in the UK. I don’t know about the numbering, but there was never a series 1 or 2 to my knowledge (it was just the psion organiser and organiser II) and there was a series 7 also, with a model called the Netbook (a LONG time before netbook became a mini PC laptop fad.) There we’re also worbabouts, which were industrial units.
@SamSquids3 жыл бұрын
there were also models like the Series 3, 3a, 3c and 3mx

even a rebadged series 3 by Acorn called the pocket book II
@memsom3 жыл бұрын
@@SamSquids Ah yeah, I was implying the 3 series existed, but forget to add it specifically... lol. I used to work for a company that used the industrial versions for a bunch of products, so I know the Workabouts quite well. They were basically 3 Series in another form factor.

Psion invented the PDA earlier with the Psion Organiser in the 1980s, so they weren't exactly new kids on the block at this stage, however by this point, Windows CE was gaining ground which had the advantage of compatibility between many devices (like Android today), so it was hard to compete...

I have one of these as well. It's definitely a pretty neat device, but let down by that extremely fragile hinge mechanism. Mine is even more broken than yours, and I'm considering just gluing it permanently open, just to prevent it falling apart completely or the screen cable snapping. I was actually able to get mine on the internet using an old cellphone that had an IR port, which the Psion was able to use as a modem. Obviously the built-in browser is very limited on the modern web, I didn't think to try the Email client though, so I have no idea if that would still work.
