"The Riff" really is pretty useful for getting a quick sense of a clean amp. Just one of those autopilot things you do when trying a guitar. Everybody's got 'em. I didn't even realize I was doing it all the time until people pointed it out.

Ah yes the layers of the onion...what is an even worse scenario--"Hey, can you come look at my 64 Twin, the Trem isn't working." Trip 1, weak tube. Trip 2, bad soldier joints from previous tech. Trip 3, weak disk caps...owner not letting me take the amp to run it on my time to present the problem to me--must be heat related, but I've never seen it happen and fix it once and for all... Congrats on the subs!

Congrats on 9k! I subscribed today I recently found your channel and have been binge watching and only just realized I wasn’t subscribed. I am about 45 minutes drive from Memphis, and have zero interest in doing any amp work myself. However, when the need arises I know exactly who I am contacting, now! Quick question: I have seen people say the bassbreaker 007 is not tech friendly and not worth trying to modify. I really like mine (too old to care about cool points) except I have to keep the bass between 0-1 and I’d LOVE an effects loop for reverb, delay, eq(which would also be a nice workaround for boominess) etc. Are those reasonable things to consider having addressed or would you suggest living with it or selling to replace it with a different low wattage amp? I play it daily and it has really served me well despite limitations. Again, great channel, great work, and congratulations on super-mega-stardom!

Your channel is the best concerning amps and you are clearly a subject matter expert Lyle! I am happy to be a Subscriber and believe you will reach 20,000+ this year! It would be of interest to me to see one the ubiquitous Hot Rod Deluxe wrecks converted to something like the 5F4 Super PTP using some the old parts.

Thanks very much Mac! The reason I'm never rushing to make HRDs into something else is pretty simple : the chassis holes for the tubes are oversized and will not accept chassis mounted sockets. Or at least not without a lot of work. I'm happy to build amps but would rather use a new chassis with fewer constraints. I'm also not that interested in building a 5F4. Glad to restore them, but don't much care for that stock circuit.

Congrats Lyle on 9k! Love your videos. Something that I've not seen you touch on a lot is train wrecks and clones. Maybe some day you might do a video or two on the touch sensitivity and harmonics that players like Trey Anastasio get. Have you ever worked on a Comet?
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. I've not had any Komets in but I've had some Wrecks in, both real and copies. Pretty scarce though. The main issue is to sound right they have to be on the verge of self destruction. Move one wire the tiniest bit and you get noise and/or oscillation. Very much a balancing act.

Thanks very much for such excellent videos and tips. I repaired my son's 4x10 Deville where the input jack had no nut, and a screen grid resistor opened up causing it to red plate, put in new output tubes. Cleaned up a lot of cracked solder joints. Seems to be okay but I was wondering if the 12AY7 in V1 and 12AT7 in V3 might be a good change? My son is not happy with the tone or the touchy controls.

Ok almost Boomer . Being a Boomer my most used reply is Just for fun I say get a job your paying for my retirement ! Followed by try much harder it not an insult. The smart ones will lean form the experienced . The fool just make fun of the older ones . Much as was said to me in the funeral business if you do your job well the problem does not return . But you do get referrals .

John Williamson, I am 64, a late model boomer, and although it's been a while since somebody used "Okay Boomer" on me, my go to retort was always the same: "OK incel". That usually shut them up, but one guy actually responded to that with "fair enough" . There might actually be some hope for that guy.....

Lyle, I hat to say it, dude but I don't stick around for the playing test because you always play that very same lick, the E major thing with the A thrown in on top. Sometimes I go to bed and can't get to sleep because I've got that dang-blasted lick in my head and it drives me nuts. Now don't get me wrong, I understand. That's your test lick. You know it by heart and you know how it should sound from amp to amp. It's a way of comparing variables based on a known quantity. I get it. But it drives me nuts. Also, it's like Chinese Water Torture, wondering if you're going to follow it with the augmented chord as you sometimes do. On one hand you might be offended and think, man, this guy's a real dick. On the other hand, consider how many of your videos I must have watched (and continue to watch) to get to this point. I would, therefore, humbly suggest, for the recorded playing test, playing a different lick. So I can sleep at night. Please.
