Artstudio Pro: Does this App BEAT Procreate 5x?

Wet brushes in artstudio pro are way better than procreate in my opinion Another big thing I noticed is that procreate drains the battery faster, I can only paint 3 hours in procreate while in artstudio I can go to 5 hours Both apps a awesome though

I think the only thing the brushes in procreate have over artstudio is speed, but they're also not "working as hard" in Procreate and doing as much. The default brushes in Artstudio are a lot more useful day to day than many of the procreate brushes too.

ArtStudio is almost a full desktop app in the iPad. I like both Procreate and ArtStudio. ArtStudio has so many great things to offer. It just needs more attraction.

Even with illustration ill be sticking with csp...as my main app but since art studio pro has some nice brush stuff you cant mimic in csp as well as really nice liquify that which is omg...its worth bouncing a pds file between apps when needed

As someone who has a very painterly artstyle, i gotta say I still mich prefer ASP over Procreate. Procreate feels kinda gimmicky at times to me and never does what it’s supposed to and especially the dual brush engine is just… not good. ASP just works like a charm most of the time as has done so for years. PC just has too many bugs that I’ve been talking to Savage for YEARS at this point to fix and they just don’t. ASP? Bugs get killed weekly there. In Procreate I can‘t even transform without the App freezing on me…

Indeed it is! I have to disagree on one thing though. If one has a painterly style Artstudio Pro def caters to it over it. The end results actually look like paint because their brush engine is so realistic. It's the best for ink/line and for paint without a doubt!

I suppose I tend to see more painterly work coming out of procreate users. I imagine it’s got something to do with it not being suited for lines.

Definitely Artstudio is my favorite art toll on ipad. As some one used to photoshop it gets to close and Procreate handles selection in a wierd way.

I have both asp and procreate and i barely use procreate. I prefer asp’s brushes. And i think painting is better in asp too

Great! If you want to try 3D sculpting, hit up Nomad sculpt. I've used forger and sculptura and Nomad is probably the best over all.

Clip studio is great for comics, but I would argue that Artstudio covers more categories. I used to use CSP, but had so much trouble getting any realistic paint/pencil brushes it moved me away from the app altogether. It's a fantastic app, just not for me. I may look back soon, but I'm not sure if much has changed.

You forgot that in Art Studio Pro you can open multiple drawings at the same time

What's the trade off in Artstudio for having more/fewer undos? In procreate we can famously not hit a limit AFAIK. I see we can raise the undo limit in Artstudio (default of 30 is more than enough in most cases), but what's the trade off? Does it eat up more ram and mean things get laggy or you can't use as many layers? So far the only thing I really don't like in Artstudio over procreate is how many taps I need to get into transforming things in artstudio. I'll probably add transform to the quick launch menu in Artstudio to speed this process up, but it feels a little clunky. In Procreate, you can lasso select an area, and then move more than one layer for that selection. Artstudio doesn't seem to let you do this easily. Procreate is a little odd in that way, but it's something I like. Not a deal breaker, more of something to feature request from lucky clan.

This is a very informative and lovely video! I’ve actually stumbled upon ASP just recently and it peaked my interest. I’ve been using procreate for over a year or two but I’m hearing amazing things about ASP and considering my iPad is my main drawing device I’m debating getting the app for myself!

I was thinking in buy procreate or artstudio, i already have affinity photo and doesn’t use photoshop, i say because of the brushes. In my case i don’t know how to draw, i mean nothing, so tutorials on internet is absolutely a need for me, do you think that i should go for artstudio or better buy procreate because more people use and teach with it? Now i’m starting with affinity designer because i find vector easier than pixer because i don’t need so much talent just the knowledge of what i will go to draw and repair my draws more easily when i fail

Welcome to the art life! You'll have a great journey! When it comes to tutorials for art, it doesn't really matter what software you're using. Unless the tutorial is specifically how to use the program, nothing will really be different. You can learn art from tutorials no matter what software you're using. The concepts will be the same.

@@liminatii thanks, do you know if artstudio has the liquify tool of procreate? I’m watching some abstract tutorials specify for this tool that i like it a lot. Apart from that what i would like to do is paint what i do in affinity designer and maybe start to draw furniture for when i have to ask for someone make me a furniture. But i think that for the last is better learn with sharp3d or something like that. I actually want to draw simple furniture like desktops or this staff for my room.

Procreate crops/deletes pixels that are dragged outside of image area; ArtStudio does not. Procreate crashes when trying to open large Photoshop files; ArtStudio does not.

I also like Artstudio Pro. Have you tried Affinity Designer yet? I think that in terms of tools and powerful engine, AD beats both Procreate and Artstudio Pro. It focuses more on vector art but it also let's you create pixel art which is very unique. You can switch your artwork from vector to pixel art and vice versa. This ability to switch between these two modes gives the artist new possibilities for creativity. AD is a bit more expensive and the learning curve is higher than the other two apps but I think it's worth it.

You may want to try IArtbook Pro - it has great blending brushes, thumb gestures support, has low battery usage, it is easy to use and has dockable color wheel, fav brushes and other panels. It is missing some more advanced stuff, but it is great for sketching.

I bent the knee and subbed to csp...been a user for years and while csp stinks for gestures...its still a power horse...but it lacks in two departments liquify and ps looking duel or textured brushes...art studio bounces nicely with csp using pds files so ill be using both...as far as procreate goes i dont know why but it turns me off all together...i don’t like how it feels to draw in and and the response of its brushes are not what I feel comfortable with..and to me that is a buzz kill.

Performs great on my 2018 iPad Pro 👍 I usually draw on 6000x5000 at 300dpi

Update: been playing with it a bit. Brush speed is plenty fast for nearly all usage cases. I tested some really large brushes and it lagged compared to Procreate, but it wasn't deal breaking by any means. Given the brush engine is nicer over all that little bit of lag on really large brushes is a small price to pay for what you get IMHO.

If ArtStudio doesn't have a layer limit or at least not a ridiculously stingy one like Procreate does, I'm definitely switching. The layer limit and the lack of expanding selection in Procreate are really frustrating to me.

Rika Tsuki when you’re in the eraser selection you should have access to all brushes still. It works for me and I can use any brush as an eraser. Let me know if you’re still having issues!

oh I find it! I hardly recommend you to make a full video just for that cuz there's nothing out there on the internet when you search for the exact key words, ArtStudio Stroke Stabilization/line smoothing. Clip studio paint or procreate results are always in the way but nothing on that matter for Artstudio. Thanks Now it works well, I almost thought I would have need to switch inbetween procreate and Artstudio everytime just for my lineart.
