Thank you for this guide! When I first played PSO2 I ended up with Ranger and then became a Gunner because I liked the idea of twin weapons. However I didn't realize that the playstyle was completely different and my inability to utilize my launcher caused me to end up not enjoying the job as much as I would have liked. That was some years ago and now with the NA release I've decided to give it a go and start up as a Ranger again with the focus to stay on Ranger and improve at it. So now watching this video is great because I was kind of learning how the various weapons worked and their best situations. @@andrewhelms6249 sorry for late late reply. I use 5, it all depends on situations. My 1-2 weapon pallet are for mobbing/destroying parts of boss, 3rd for big type of boss, 4th for boss like Omega Masquerade and Phaleg type of boss (very agile bosses), 5th is launcher for mobbing (I also use the mannequin type of PA against boss like Phaleg so she won't attack for a few seconds). That's all, really. At first when you're playing ranger, you'll find it hard to adjust to your position specially when fighting 1on1 against a boss, soon enough you'll get used to it and can abuse a crafted PA(Parallel Slider) to dodge easier, and you can also do some cool moves like other class.

Very informative video! Although format-wise, I think it could use some improvements. The top text is hard to read while also being distracted by the ongoing action onscreen, whether it directly applies or not. Could use some form of voiceover, or text/titles featured more prominently alongside the specific thing its referencing. Most text would be on the bottom, like subtitles are.

Great video! Lots of solid info on the playstyle and especially the difficulties Ranger players may face re: positioning and timing. Only comment I would make is not as much towards Ranger but towards the Ranger vs. Gunner damage comparison. Gunner can kill Rodos just as fast as Ranger. By doing DA -> Messiah you lose out on a very large chunk of Messiah's damage. Gunner with modest equips (my Lib TMGs are 200 R-Atk/P. Weak but my Units are 150 Attack All-Rounders) and with the lowest Shifta drink I can apply Chain 10 and then do S-Roll into full Messiah for a quick kill. Even on the Rockbear demonstration, double IF0 combos actually lose to TAJA/S-Roll Messiah Time now.

Impact Slider, Parallel Slider, One Point, End Attract and Satellite Cannon. Complex PAs are different from custom PAs in that they require stocks to use and not PP

A really good guide, Only issue i had is the Standing and Moving Snipe Skills on the current JP patch does the same amount of bonus damage. It doesn't on the current NA version, but if they update the NA version to the current JP version, it could be a misconception.

I am new to this game and want to ask I am currently using Nox Steyr to use it requires rng Def. My Mag has a small amount of rng Def but I want to pump everything to rng pwr. Is the mag characteristic taken into account or do the requirements for using ignore the mag characteristics?

Stat equip requirements takes into account your mag's stats yes. Try to focus everything into RNG PWR if you can, since there are a few endgame weapons you can't equip if you ruin your mag.

I'd just like to know what constitutes aiming in this game. I'm on PC and I've played many fps and just started PSO2 today, but I got no idea, sometimes things hit, sometimes they do not. I can't swivel my character around. Very confused.

Aiming is mostly about leading one of Rifle's biggest hitters: Positron Blast, since it's a slow moving energy blast that can hit up to 5 times. It's not as important on Launcher, since you mostly just want to shoot explosives on the floor in OTS mode, and Rifle can get away using target lock-on for the majority of their attacks.

RaHu is gonna be the standard starting out in NA until Etoile comes. Etoile is basically everything you could ask for regarding damage reduction, knockback immunity and damage output. Of course Hunter still has an on demand knockback/flinch immunity (Massive Hunter) and a chance to survive at 1 HP (Iron Will) with Invulnerablilty if thats activated (Never Give Up) which really helps in those scenarios where you eat a lot of high damage and dont have a time to heal.

RaEt is the better version of RaHu, you don't need iron will on RaEt because you tank even raid wipes, better DPS potential would be RaFi, but that is only for very skillfull players.

Gear-wise however, look into getting an Elder Rifle or Yas7V with the Enchanted Mag pot (uses weaponoid boosters to unlock), Launcher should be Cannon Revo, Shooting Drive/Sigma Launcher being a poverty option

Stock counter for using special attacks called "Complex PAs". Each class (except for Hero/Phantom/Etoile) has one tied to their specific weapon, some requiring more stocks to use. Ranger's Complex PA, Prominence Assail, requires a Launcher to use, but it only consumes 1 stock.

I'd recommend Hunter subclass starting off, then moving into Etoile subclass after. Hunter sub lets you learn some Ranger fundamentals, while Etoile improves upon RA gameplay by offering better quality of life perks, such as having super armor when stationary.

Can you? Yes. Should you? I wouldn't recommend it. Launcher's attacks are notoriously slow, and has relatively short range compared to Rifles. You'll die very often if you have issues dodging with the default dodge roll.

Depends on what you want. tl;dr Gunner better for bossing, high skill floor, moderate/high skill ceiling. Ranger better for general/supportive damage, low skill floor but high skill ceiling.

If you're getting started with Ranger, I would suggest Hunter. It offers high, unconditional damage modifiers (161.4% shooting damage), great survivability options like automatic healing when dropping below 50% HP, and access to Massive Hunter/Hunter Physique (NA dubbed name) that grants immunity to knockback for a duration. Phantom is a caster and it's not slow, no where close to it, and even high level play of Force makes it interesting, this game is all about skill. Ranger isn't complicated, you pretty much play it for End Attract, Satelite Cannon and slider, no reason to play it outside of big bosses and mobbing, sucks ass outside of those, and its very easy compared to BBow and Partizan, 2 of the most complicated weapons to use since both needs to be played around stacking bombs PAs.
