2 wks. prior in their road tilt w/rival W.V.U., Penn State came back from 14-0 lst Quarter deficit to outscore Morgantown, West Va.-based univ., 49-7 rest, way for 49-21 comeback win. They'd finish reg. season play in 1978 season w/perfect 11-0-0 record before suffering heart-breaking 14-7 loss to Univ., Ala. in XLVth Sugar Bowl classic on New Yr.'s Day, 1979 (January 1, 1979-Mon.)

That game in 1978 season which Penn State scored 49 pts. against W.V.U. marked llnd successive season that Nittany Lions scored 49 pts. against Morgantown, West Va.-based univ. (season prior (1977) Penn State at home beat W.V.U., 49-28 as Nittany Lions went on 42-pt. Ist half rampage enroute to beating Morgantown, West Va.-based univ. by 21 pts. B.T.W., W.V.U. committed 7 turnovers in that game. And speaking, Penn State's opposition committing n'mrs t'rnvrs in game against N'ttny Lions, early in 1978 season Ohio State at home c'mmttd 8 t'rnvrs in their 19-0 loss to Penn State

1978 season for N.C. State marked VIth/last post-season bowl game appearance for Raleigh, N.C.-based univ. in 1970s. That season they beat Univ., Pgh., 30-17 in XXXIIIrd Tangerine Bowl classic. Then N.C. State would be absent from post-season bowl game competition for next 7 successive seasons (1979 thru 1985) before suffering last sec. "walk-off" loss to Va. Tech, 25-24 on game-ending FG as time expired giving Va. Tech "walk-off" win on New Yr.'s Eve, 1986 (December 31, 1986-Wed.)

Always a mystery why Paterno had so few top QB's. Fusina was just pedestrian as were most of his QB's. Ohio State, Michigan, and even Pitt had better and continue to out recruit the Lions. Very frustrating for us fans.
