I love video games. I love playing games in VR. I hate Sony. I love PlayStation games. I hate PlayStation. I love the PSVR2....wait now I'm conflicted.
As mentioned in a later video, I'm updating these older descriptions. At the time of writing this, I'm about 3 months out from when I originally received the PSVR2. It's good. Better than good actually. It's freaking fantastic and it's made content creation LEAGUES easier than the HP Reverb G2. I feel like I'm actually excited for new VR releases now. Speaking of, if that Aliens game isn't the greatest thing in world, I'm gonna be a saaaad panda. Xenomorphs are some of the coolest monsters ever. Also Prometheus is a fantastic movie. Never trust movie reviewers. MP OUT!

Nowadays the lenses, resolution, and panels REALLY hold back the Valve Index. I don't think it's worth getting anymore unfortunately.
@vrenthusiast71

As a daily driver of a Valve Index. I too agree with everything stated here. I would also add. The finger tracking isn't anything more than a novelty. It was never that accurate and has little support in games. Lastly, the controllers are not built to last. I have had 1 analog stick wear out so badly it flops around like those old N64 sticks used to. And the grip panel snapped off. On the replacement that cost $150. The grip panel also snapped off. I am not hard on my tech. This is Outrageous for a supposedly premium $1000 product. That said. I have also had THE BEST entertainment experiences of my life in it so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@@vrenthusiast71 This is super interesting to hear. I didn't know about this. It's pretty crazy how much staying power the Index has had though. I feel like we've only recently entered a period where the Index is no longer considered the best.

I'm keen to see what Valve would do with a new headset release, but I can't help but think the competition is so stiff with Quest 3/3S and the inevitable 4, that the business-heads are probably (rightly) thinking that doing so may not be a good proposition nowadays.
@SanctusBacchus

@@MostlyPositiveChannel yeah, Index would be far from worth it even if it was the same price as the PSVR2. But at $1k base, plus the inevitable $100+ per pop repair costs for the cables and controllers (which WILL fail after a couple hundred hours), it becomes an even more ridiculous proposition.

The PSVR2 is still at its full price of $550. It went on sale one time for $350 and that was definitely the best price it has ever been. In fact that's a pretty acceptable price all things considered. But $550 is just crazy. Especially with all the other things you NEED to buy to get it working smoothly on PC.

I see the lack of advanced haptics and adaptive triggers on PCVR a non-issue at all. It's a neat feature on PS5, but the Sense controllers have really bad battery life. I've noticed that they last quite a lot longer playing on PC when they aren't using those features.

@MostlyPositiveChannel
@MostlyPositiveChannel 4 ай бұрын
Thanks man, much appreciated! It totally depends on what exactly you want. A lot of people don't have space for base station tracking, like myself, so inside out tracking is a godsend. On top of that, the Index, while still impressive, is definitely showing its age. The tracking is phenomenal, but the lenses are subpar compared to modern headsets. The Index controllers work with a number of different headsets, so you don't actually need the Index itself to experience the benefits of the controllers and base station tracking. Then there's the fact that the public knows Valve is working on a new VR headset, we just don't know when it will come out. I'd say for the average consumer, the choices are really between the PSVR2 and Quest 3 right now.

I would definitely love to try them out one day. The Xbox Elite controller is my controller of choice. The back paddles are a godsend. I can't justify buying a DualSense controller just for a few neat features, plus I'm not a fan of the symmetrical stick layout. I've seen people keeping tabs on Sony logging new versions of the PSVR app on Steam, so it's possible that official support could come one day.

The only thing I missed a little in the beginning was the oled screens my Vive had. I do NOT miss having to wear headphones though. And I got the rift for 420 bucks which was a pretty nice price. I only use it for car sims and never use the controllers so I don't really know how good/bad they are.

Gotcha. I mean that's just the nature of technology, especially when it comes to gaming on PC. Sometimes you just gotta mess around with things until it works. It may have been a pain to set up, but I haven't had any issues since and I hope this video was able to help people understand what they might have to do so they don't have to go through a similar situation. To be clear, this is on Sony for making it a bumpy transition to PC and not on the user. I do see where you're coming from though, but I love the PSVR2. I've heard extremely mixed things about the Quest 3's PC streaming. It might work well for 10,000 people, but I've also seen 10,000 other people say it looks terrible. From all the research I've done before making the purchase, even at the best quality, streaming doesn't come close to the visual clarity you get from being plugged in through DisplayPort. Even Quest 3's cable options don't compare to DisplayPort either. I also don't mind being tethered to the computer. I don't notice the cable at all, especially compared to the one on my HP Reverb which always felt like it was in the way. I also need to be at my computer anyways since I'm always recording, streaming, browsing through files, audio mixing, on the fly editing, etc. etc. I don't necessarily think one is better than the other. They both have their pros and cons. I think it's completely dependent on ones needs, and for me the PSVR2 got me closest to my ideal experience for gaming and content creation. I appreciate the response and I hope I was able to clearly expand on why I chose the PSVR2 👍

why modmic? tons of wireless lav mics out there! you can go with any used rode wireless go or its cheaper counterfeit under 60$
@MostlyPositiveChannel
@MostlyPositiveChannel 5 күн бұрын
Good question! First one I've seen asking about a lavalier mic. Since the ModMic Wireless is connected to the computer through it's wireless receiver, I can talk on Discord, in game voice chat, and record/live stream in OBS. It's convenient, simple, and gives me a number of option on how I want to approach voice chat/recording. If we're strictly talking about recording content, then my Tascam DR-10L is certainly an option. It could definitely provide a much higher quality vocal recording if used correctly, but then I'd have to go out of my way and transfer the audio file from my Tascam to my computer and sync it with the recording every single time. I would also have to consider all the rustling that could happen since you're bound to flail wildly in VR. There's also battery management since it isn't a rechargeable device. Plus it would be one more thing to think about, set up, and have one more wire dangling from me, as opposed to the ModMic Wireless where I literally just have to turn it on and that's it. Even if I consider the Rode Wireless GO, instead of my Tascam, it would be the same situation minus the battery management and dangling wire. In conclusion, VR is notorious for having to deal with a lengthy set up process before finally being able to play something, so you can imagine how much worse it is as a content creator. The ModMic Wireless keeps things as simple as possible, with no additional wires, and also greatly improving vocal recording compared to the PSVR2's onboard mic; and the only extra step that's added to setting up is a single button press to turn it on. Hope this was a good in-depth answer 👍

Picked one up open box from ebay with the charging stand included for $300, now that I've used it I definitely wouldnt pay more. Maybe my expectations were too high, the last HMD i used was the CV1 a couple years ago, with no VR in between, and comparing the specs and my memories i expected to be blown away. But I wasn't, the res isnt as crazy high as i thought, it still looks like im looking into the world through binoculars (my prescription lens inserts dont help I'm sure), and the mura doesnt bother me that much but is definitely noticable. And thats not going into the compromises i had to make (i cant run my triple 10-bit 4k monitor setup with this connected), and how hard it was to get it working.

I've been wanting to get into VR Gaming, and this headset seems like it's been worth every single buck, if you own a capable PC or PS5. I do need graphics card upgrade before then, waiting on the Radeon 8000 cards to see what AMD has been cooking and if any of them come with VirtualLink supported so that there'd be no reason for the adapter, even tho this might be unlikely.

I didn't have any issues with either the G2 or PSVR2 controllers in terms of batter life. For the PSVR2, I had multiple sessions that lasted around 3 hours straight and they didn't die. There's also a setting on Steam where you can have them auto turn off after a set amount of time of inactivity. While making this video, I often switched between editing and gathering footage.
