Years after years, games after games, Alundra is still my number 1 most favorite game of ALL time. The storyline, the characters, the scenario, the graphics, the music, the combat system, the areas. No words will ever tell how much I love this game. Could probably write a whole book on why do I love this game, but it's enough that I keep coming back and back to it and I still keep finding something new every time.
@Surkimus9 жыл бұрын
It's such a shame the second game didn't really turn out to be so great. The transition to 3D was too much for the team - not to mention just how goddamn different the story was overall compared to this. If it would've sold well I bet we'd still have hope for Alundra 3...
@AnnNightNoxana9 жыл бұрын
***** Should they make a second sequel it would probably be even worse than the first. If we could even call it a 'sequel'.

Ann Night I see you everywhere. (chuckle) I read your comments quite often, and two of the things I've gleaned from them about you are that: 1. You've got good taste. 2. You're one of a small group (comparatively) on YT that uses proper grammar and spelling. I respect this, and it makes me smile when I see it. Cheers.

One of the best games I have ever played. Sure, it's a playstation Zelda-clone, but what a clone it is. The story is easily superior, the gameplay is solid, the art is beautiful, and the soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard anywhere. In my humble opinion, one of the best games ever made. I'm glad I own this gem of an RPG. They really don't make them like this anymore.

+Antti Lappalainen Great words Antti - although I wouldn't even compare it to Zelda. Sure it has the top down dungeon crawl mechanic but aside from that it is a completely different beast. I find the storyline so immersive and the ideas presented within the game and storyline (at least at the time) are very adult and are not portrayed in a childish manner. When a member of the village dies everyone pays their respects and the music reflects the severity of what has occurred. Speaking of music, one of the most impressive aspects aside from the artwork is the score - I still listen to the soundtrack from time to time as it has some of the best sets of orchestral pieces from the PSX era, followed closely by Suikoden II. I have so much love for this game, I just wish the "other" Alundra title held a torch even nearly as bright

My uncle owned this game for PlayStation 1 when I was a child, and I was not at all familiar with "adult games" or anything outside of donkey Kong and Mario Brothers for that matter, and the cutscene with the horror music and the girl screaming as it pans up through the village gave me nightmares. It took me almost a decade to figure out which game it was that haunted me.

I remember playing this when I was a freshman in high school. I thought I could figure out anything in a game then I played this. This game drove me batshit crazy trying to figure out where to go or what to do next because characters offered clues but you never knew exactly how you were supposed to do the task that progressed the story. It literally took me 4 months to actually beat this game without looking up hints. I remember I got to the very end and I missed one of the gems to open up the very last dungeon. I must've looked everywhere for it but I never figured out where it was so had to start the whole goddamn game over just because I thought I couldn't get to the last dungeon without. Man those were good times.

I played this on release all the way back in 97, finished it many times. Brings back memories. If only the sequels were as good but they were crap, they tried to go polygon 3D and went away from the this iconic gameplay. I hope one day they make a new game but one that stays true to the original formula which made it famous in the first place. Alundra is a masterpiece.

If you like Alundra, you should look at Landstalker for the Mega Drive/Genesis. Many of the team who worked on that game also worked on Alundra after leaving Climax and there are definite similarities. Fifth generation 2D games are a strange anomaly: they were castigated at the time for being dated, but, in retrospect, this was arguably a golden age for 2D gaming. If you're interested in 2D games from this era, there are, as you say, plenty of great ones on the PS1 and even more on the Neo Geo and Saturn.

I miss Games like this these days, modern Rpg's tend to have a rather boring main Story because of gigantic open world and stuff, that is the reason why they need a bazillion side quests to fill the void. This game doesn't need that because you're hooked to the story from the start, and who needs a open world as long as you enjoy playing the game.
@vicious-pi3rd5 жыл бұрын
The game is so balanced from the story enemy battles to the puzzles There's not one part in this game that you say this is b.s. If you screw up in any of those parts you know it's not the game .Is probably you got to approach it in a different kind of way!
