You can tell James doesn't have much stage/singing training, but oh he's really trying hard and deserves credit for it. They should've balanced it a bit more and let some of the others lift some of the weight for him (damn, Chief Vick and Lassie know what they're doing!)

James has a good sense of pitch and tone, he just needs better vocal control as hell just barely undershoot or over shoot notes on certain riffs or runs but other than that I thought he did good considering he isn’t a professional singer

Aww this is the best! And to the couple comments about shawn/james not trying, he's definitely trying!! Probably just as hard as the rest of them! He just had no air! Back when my nerves got the best of me when I first started singing live, I'd lose all my air and be forced to try to almost talk more than sing and laugh off a messed up phrase, just like he is here. He did his best and definitely still did a great job! (but dule?? holy crap!)

He’s just not really a musical theater person. His singing voice is average, and he’s never really had to dance. Several of the other actors he’s working with on the other hand have performed on broadway, so the comparison’s not really fair. I love James and his comedy and acting skills are impressive, singing and dancing... not so much. But he put a lot of effort into it and I think he did his best.

I wonder if some of the notes are too low for James. He has a higher voice, more of a tenor. I don't know, but I don't care. I love him and the whole cast. I have yet to see the whole musical. I am still in season 6 and I want to watch it in order. PSYCH IS THE BEST!!!!!

I think you're right; I think he's singing a little out of his range to fit the rest of the cast. It's not the strongest part of his voice. He's also chosen to play it for laughs. Tim Omundson is also singing at the bottom of his range at times.
