It's more of how the media treats it. Most of what people understand about basically anything is from the media and I am not just talking about the news. Often the cost of pursuing a pleasure cannot be accounted for at the outset because when the pursuit robs you of your awareness of yourself, of your interaction with life and of your appreciation of your own existence, such a great price goes unnoticed. Yet, people pay it because they are depressed and angry and lack value and meaning in their lives. They are paying the price all the time. They often associate their suffering with other things, so they seek greater pleasures, which exact great prices, and their dilemma and depression become deeper. In fact, their depression can become so deep that it is like a dark cell with no windows where no light can penetrate. As it’s so much more than just not being able to focus. We can have major rejection dysphoria, get throw ourselves into panic attacks because we just can’t seem to get any info for your test into your head, it’s the constant anxiety and fear of forgetting something important, it’s the depression of not feeling good enough, or feeling you’re just not tying hard enough, it’s the controversial pills many of us need to take to do basic task, it’s the pressure to sell those pills because they’re just so expensive, it’s being dismissed and ignored by doctor after doctor saying that there’s nothing wrong and that you’re just “trying to get the pills” or “you just need to learn to focus” or “you just need to grow up and behave” and we never.... never can escape... I just want people to understand... untreated adhd has caused me to attempt to end my life multiple times... though I’m doing a lot better now that I’m being treated, I really want people to understand adhd is a really big deal and that it is something that needs to be brought into the proper light. As a person with a heavy diagnosis (generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, severe depression, insomnia, PTSD and borderline personality disorder) it's nice to have people explaining to others what we go through. I hate when people look at me and doubt me because "I look normal". Well yes and I worked hard on myself to cope with all this and still do. It's not easy to hear all the judgements that's people have: dangerous, crazy, lazy, lack of ambition, drama queen....

As a person with ASPD, I'd put mine up there in the misunderstood conditions. I'm tired of trying to explain to people that my brain doesn't work like theirs and I can't be sad that their grandma died, damn it. I'll apologize if I've done something wrong but that's all you're gonna get: a polite apology. I'm not going to cry and grovel at your feet with regret. Oh yes and any new person I meet, if they find out, starts to think I'm going to murder them in their sleep or something. Resources online are incredibly misleading a lot of the time too.

I knew that i had ocd. That was clear from the beginning. But when i realize that i had depression was when my ocd was getting so much worse than usual. I felt lack of sleep, couldn‘t even fall asleep at night. Even though i did, i woke up in three hours. This results in persistent tiredness. That’s why i became so sensitive to external stimuli. Just a noise made from children outside starts to trigger me so much. I got irritated so easily. Then i started to have some back pains (according to the doctor, back pain could be caused by the depression). My pms symptoms got so much worse, too. All these symptoms gets much worse by the time when my period comes and gets better after the period. I had over 10 symptoms including suicidal thoughts... The idea was that these terrible moments keep coming every month and i‘m so affected right now... and there would be so much harder times in my life later on, how could i stand such pressure? I do not deserve to live... I‘m now on a medication and feel so much better. Except the fact that i gained some weight because of this, but really, if i had not seen a doctor and had no support from my family and my bf, i wouldn‘t be where i am right now.

I was diagnosed with high functioning autism and people always seem to get it mixed up with adhd/add. Most of my symptoms of autism revolve around me not being able to focus on schoolwork to the point where I've been failing school (I'm trying to get better now and I hope it works). People usually associate it with adhd but it's also a common symptom in high functioning autism.

As someone suffering from bipolar disorder, I hate when people say "Ah, and I'm bipolar!" just because they are moody or a bit energetic. You wouldn't go around saying you have cancer so lightly, so you shouldn't talk about a another illness like that. My go to when this happens is "When were you diagnosed?" which always confuses them. It's like they don't even know it's an actual disease.

I don’t know if diagnoses are that important. If you seriously feel like you have something, you more than likely do. Just do your research on it and then look up treatment options. A lot of things you can actually do yourself nowadays. Plus, there are online support groups.
@neoraven68953 жыл бұрын
Therapy is very difficult to get if you cannot afford a private therapist (btw if you're American then I don't know how the system works there, I only have experience from the UK, specifically England), but there are waiting lists you can get on to get it for free via the NHS. Of course, if you aren't British and this isn't an option, please don't lose hope!! Self-diagnosing is okay if you've done the research, you're being honest with yourself, and you simply cannot access an official diagnosis. And beyond the diagnosis, in terms of getting help with any mental health issues you have, it is possible to get through it without therapy; I'll admit it's more challenging, but you can do it. There are so many incredible free resources online that offer fantastic advice as well as online communities that offer sympathy. I don't know what you're going through, but I do know that you can do this. You can fight through whatever you are facing, as so many people have done before and will continue to do, using whatever resources you have, however limited. Sending you so much love and I hope everything turns out okay (in fact, I KNOW everything will turn out okay!)

I'm so glad that DID was touched on in this video. As someone with possible DID/OSDD, it feels almost dehumanizing to see media inaccurately portraying and even faking this disorder, and it makes me sad to see that there's a big negative stigma around DID/OSDD. Even one of my closest friends believed the way that popular media portrays this disorder before we told him about all of us. It doesn't take that much effort to look up articles and real sources about something mental health related, and I'm glad your channel is here to help inform people in a way. Thank you for this.

I think also a misunderstood mental disorder could be social anxiety or social fobia, because people always think that is a fear to speak in front of a lot of people or in a crowded room, when it´s more than that, you get stressed for simple things like sending a text or an email, or you plan every single thing you are going to say or also your movements with unknown people or even with people you allready know

When you deal with multiple of these disorders it’s even worse because sometimes symptoms overlap like my problems feel way bigger than they actually are and I can’t deal with it or that I need to share problems with my friends because people tell me depressed people keep everything inside and I’m just doing it for attention, but in reality, I want validation and my anxiety makes me seek it. To make sure I haven’t done something horrible in people’s eyes. To make sure I’m not a monster. Stereotyping people with mental illnesses gets us nowhere. People with depression aren’t lazy, we physically can’t do daily tasks like get up or do schoolwork. People with anxiety aren’t over dramatic or attention seekers, we just need the approval of people to make sure we aren’t majorly screwing up. Because a lot of times we don’t know if we did was right or wrong, you can’t discern what’s your anxiety acting up and what’s you genuinely being a bad person.

Who knows how many years until the DSM sorts out its internal politics and shift from fiduciary responsibility to revenue :/

With DID you just covered the "identity disorder"-form. DID has also other forms. The most known one is the rarest. As I remember, DID has 5 different forms. One can have more than one form, all forms or just one form. One thing that all forms have in common are, that they are triggered when being some sort of retraumatised or expieriencing a "new" trauma.
